In Sabyasachi
In her Sabyasachi sari, Kangana served up some serious vintage-inspired glamour at Cannes. At first glance, we loved it- There’s something about a timeless sari and a classic bouffant.
But here’s the thing, as much as we love this, for the event in question it just feels too on the nose and dare we add, costume-y. A softer updo and a killer cat-eye would’ve been just as effective.
So, yeah… Love it. Just conflicted given the event in question.

I think she looks amazing and so timeless, and gives me vintage Sharmila Tagore vibes. And considering she is representing the Indian film industry via the India Pavillion, I think this was an apt and beautiful look. I don’t know if you would have said this felt costumey had she been wearing a simple dress?
Agree to Sharmila’s vibe..and wearing a sari is fantastic. Its classic and represents India like no other dress. But I agree to P&P about the costumey thing. There’s one thing to effortlessly wear an outfit and its an another thing to have that forced expressions and poses. Also the hair could have been neater. Here they look kinda like bird’s nest.
Good God I thought this was a still from a period movie! I agree with P & P. A few updates and this would’ve swept me off my feet
I think she looks incredible! She is staying true to her style aesthetic and presenting Sabya in her own unique way! I think the hair, the make-up, the saree and her swagger make for a fabulous combination!
I agree about her styling this Sabya saree. It has become tiresome watching every other actress wear Sabyasachi outfits with cookie-cutter styling. But Kangana completely owns this look with her trademark boss-lady swag. Very vintage, classy and chic with the right amount of drama for Cannes! She looks stunning!!
Fashion is a strange ball game nowadays. With the world’s eye on you, for a film event, where glamour, parties and pizzaz take center stage, how is this costume-y? The entire world of movies in itself is costume-y and if not here, then when? If not like this, then how?
She looks stunning. The idea of promoting Indian wear in such a hip, modern way is definitely the way to go for an event like Cannes. Gowns abound in plenty, saris and other forms of regional wear should make a mark here!
There should be no searching for originality here – this is an International event where film stars get to show off as much as their meticulously put together teams of stylists, make up and hair artists, sponsors and photographers. This is a team game.
Very well articulated, couldn’t have said it better! When every piece of clothing and accessory on a celeb is IDed and even travel and gym looks are photographed and sartorial choices and hairstyles are discussed, this is the mother of all events film and glamor !!!!! Only Kangana can stand apart beautifully in a silk saree at a wedding reception with guests dressed in OTT, screaming and bordering on inappropriate outfits. Followed almost immediately by a totally different saree look – a smashing first appearance in Cannes!!!!
Could not have said it better!
Bellissimo ! Audrey Hepburn in a saree … Kangana is presenting something so fresh, so chic and elegant. Reminds me of Sharmila Tagore spending an evening in Paris. This is vintage gold standard. Mind blown !
Sorry but the hair looks like dried cowdung.
And your comment stinks of it.
She tries wayyyyyy too hard
Much like you with your spellings.
Haha lol, I agree too. We got the your message Asha, don’t try “wayyyyyy” too hard
She is consistently on point with her fashion choices…so it is most likely that she has natural knack for good fashion. All the actors try (really hard) but only a handful succeed so brilliantly.
LOVE it! That old school glamour! Leave it to Kangana to always reinvent the wheel. It is so refreshing to see a Sabya saree styled this way. And I don’t care about the event appropriateness tbh, it’s Cannes! It’s a fantastic look, I’m just going to appreciate that for now.
Shes totally slaying it!!!!!!! beautiful!
oh boy. I wish her publicists were able to get her an invite to the red carpet.
I totally loved it
I was the perfect serve of retro and a little drama without going overboard.
So WOWW! I mean I cannot find one fault with it,
So different than red hair red lipstick- AJSK! :P
Chipku hair and red hair-red lipstick-anarkali tent both have to learn a thing or two from Kangna
And I dont even like this chick for her personal shenanigans
It’s Cannes! Love the drama. Can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve.
Is this the same saree that Kim Kardashian posed for in a different color for Vogue India? She looks like an Indian Audrey Hepburn – no complains here!
Vogue India had a Kartrashian pose in a saree?
*goes away to vomit and die*
Vintage inspired but really not for Cannes. There’s nothing here that would set her apart in a crowd.
I think you should take a look at all the insta feeds on her. She literally stopped traffic! And the photographers went crazy scrambling to get her pics and find out who she is. For a first timer in Cannes if thats not the way to stand apart in a crowd then what is?!
/What insta feeds? (for a novice not too savvy with instagram) #kangana?
#queenatcannes
She’s rocking it and is so owning it…major Sharmila Tagore vibes.
So vintage… Old Bollywood charm , bt she carries it so well !!
Somehow not feeling it
Oh man…this photos are reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn, from the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s..albeit the Desi version. She looks drop dead gorgeous.
Love love love. I love that she is rocking a saree. I love her attitude. And lastly I love her not being a fashion sheep. I wish she was invited to the MET.
Love
She looks absolutely stunning. Really admire for her. She looks classy and sophisticated. I hope others see and wear something similar? If not saree but lengha?
I wouldn’t change a thing. This is an event to celebrate films and she looks like a FILM STAR!! I love how she experiments
It looks vintage glamorous to me !!!
She looked stunning .. the hair … make up … saree everything was on point
Agree on the softer updo part. That being said still “one” of the impressive Cannes looks from Indian delegates. So glam!
Ditto
Drama en pointe, no doubt. But what was the event? Or was it just a photoshoot? For someone who dresses up while travelling, this should be normal for an event.
There is always something classic about a black sari. Kangana looks absolutely beautiful here. Considering how all her looks back home are so well put and color coordinated, I had set the bar very high for Cannes. However this is sucha throwback of her movie ‘ once upon a time in Mumbaai’. Especially the B&W photo on the road. Hopefully the red carpet has some drama. Kangana show ’em how it’s done!
Tacky. That hair color along with the hairdo looks like those cheap wigs. Ew!
Tacky?!! This one?! Lol… You seriously need help dear !!;)
This is the person who consistently gushes over the tacky blingy looks of Shilpa Shetty, so expecting good taste from this quarter might be next to impossible.
Seriously, this girl needs help big time with her comments here. She’s calling this tacky. I’m sure she will love Huma’s latest look ?
Lol, Anon so well said! You can judge the authenticity of her comments from the number of thumbs down she consistently receives and that generally outnumbers her thumbs up. She goes around punctuating her comments with words like tacky, cheap, wannabe, try-hard and what not.. really, nothing is as classless as her own language and no nothing can ever help her as it’s been a long, long time since is behaving such, majority of the times deliberately. Her zero authenticity on this blog is borderline funny now!
Yeah agreed… I guess with Kangana people just go berserk liking her looks without caring about some odd ones.. this look needed a sweet ladylike body language n a neater bouffant.. not her bad ass self everywhere.
It does look costumey. But Kangana gets a pass for everything from the HHC crowd.
Disagree P&P. This is Cannes after all, and for an event that discusses films as opposed to shilling for a cosmetics company at the film festival, this look is a complete class act. Very timeless, glamorous and absolutely gorgeous!!!
I agree. It was not very creative ..black saree, pearls and cat eye. Been there done that. Nothing fresh about this look.
God, she looks ethereal!!! Love, love! Sharmila Tagore meets Brigitte Bardot!
Just love love love everything abt this..
OMG…She is hitting it outta the park with this one. I love it…so retro and classic. Can’t stop gushing.
I loved it as is! Cannes need some serious drama and this is the lady who can serve it hot!
whats the event in question? the saree n blouse is great, something off with the hair and make up for sure.
Love it, whether costumey or not
I am conflicted about her hair. It does serve the drama you’d want at Cannes but also looks dated. Undoubtedly, Kangana makes this work but I don’t know. At times I like it and at times it feels out of place for me. Is this her only appearance or do we get more?
Ladies and Gentlemen , we have our very own desi-Holly Golightly now!! Seriously man ,she looks ethereal, classy and oh-so-chic!!
Nobody can carry this look the way she did
whats with the recent negativity in all your posts.
Shes looking good. Even if a bit costumey, this is a very elegant saree and blouse to wear in an international event. I wonder how many of them will find it “costumey” and not “vintage”. Vintage is always good.
Oh my god, I love it P&P!!!
Audrey Hepburn-meets-sexy-rajkumari is a look she has down pat. Am a bit surprised — I wouldn’t even say disappointed — that she felt underconfident enough to repeat a look, instead of pushing the envelope as she usually does.
She looks marvellous though.
Yup, hair’s not working at all. It should, but it just doesn’t, dont know why!
Love it !! Head to toe!
Getting Audrey Hepburn vibes from this look
I think given the event in question she looks perfect! Other than the Met Gala, Cannes is the other place where people can really bring it! So why not go for massive amounts of drama/glam and old school Bollywood? I’m obsessed with this
Wowza! She look so stunning and Cannes pavilion appropriate. The styling makes this look, without the hair, this would have been just another sighting.
Unfortunately, dated and constumey :( and the poses…nah!
True.. there’s no Audrey or Sharmila Tagore here… it’s a shabby attempt with such a fabulous fashion persona. The idea was great, but just ended up like a bad copy. shes done these old world looks fabulously in once upon a time in Mumbai.. the stylists could have studied that for reference
Agreed, Sana! Those “fierce” posing lolol with the dated hair being compared to Ms Hepburn & Ms Tagore is an insult to both the eternal lovely ladies.
The tacky lover is Ms. Avani…
Stunning !! nothing to fault here!! very Sharmila Tagore…
I agree. This look works for a photo shoot. But at the end of the day, it’s a film event you are attending. A simple bouffant and retro eye makeup would have worked just fine.
are you kidding? She looks amazing! Audrey Hepburn but event better, just how cool is she man! I have a girl crush…
Loved it totally. Her attitude is her best attire
Costume-y, yes. But she’s rocking the saree like nobody else
Hello! What’s not to love really. I think it would have been costumy had she added the long cigarette holder or some other prop like that.
oh lala! so amazingly stylish!
This is what you’d get if you cross Audrey Hepburn with Sharmila Tagore. Knocked it out of the park. This woman is class.
I think she looks FANTASTIC!! Unabashedly Indian and none of the fusion saree business. She is owning it and how! A teeny tiny grip would be that her hair looks very dried out.
I don’t intend to be mean but I m getting very evil vibes from the look.
You look at Kangana and you know it that she has been involved in EACH stage of the fashion she presents herself in. From the concept of the look, to the colour, design, cut, accessories, hair, and just about everything else. Maybe that is why all of her looks always end up looking like she is wearing her fashion! With others its more of having access to the latest collection and wearing the best out of it and that is about it. It is more of stylists’ vision with them than their own while in her case, she stands equally with her stylists!
With respect to this look, she looks FABULOUS. She owns each piece that touches her fit bod, man! As a Cannes debutante, she has made me sit up and take notice of her glam fashion game. More love to her!
Wannabe expression. She really needs to get out of her fierce poses.
She looks odd given that it was press meet and a day event.
Trying too hard is all I see. Fried hair with that funny facial expression
P&P never in a history of HHC had the comments reached 75 before !!
Wow
Hahaha. You only need to check Aishwarya at Cannes posts to know that we have exceeded that number many many times! ;)
Payal , Is Ash appearing at Cannes this year ?
But, of course!
Aishwarya’s posts gets comments upto 200
Are you serious..about the costume-y part???
She looked amazing!!
This is vintage glamour and she nailed the look.
It is like Audrey Hepburn interpreted and done Bollywood way.. and done correctly.
Simple black sari.. but the hair,make-up attitude and gorgeous jewelry takes it to another level!
Audrey Hepburn deconstructed and reconstructed in an Indian landscape.
LOVE IT!
Love it. But I wish her hair was black for this look and not brown.
Love the saree, the bold make up… she rocks the look… but… the hair… I cannot get over the hair… seems to ruin it for me. wish she had done something different…
Amazing…perfect!!! Love it!!!!
Here you did it again…. R yiu guyzz are stupid or what…. Just say if she is good or bad…. You dont have to see the event.. Who are you…. You r critic not the designer… Mallika sherawat has also went to cannes… Bt you didn’t give her dress review… Why… Bcoz you r biasd….. You guyz ate not like that before bt suddenly become like this…. Earlier you used to givd more reviews of stars bt now it has become much lesser.. Why.. As a fan of your page it was my responsibility to tell what i didn’t like so… Here it is… Bye
Speechless!! Only Kangana can do this. She slayed it and how!!
