Wearing a Benarasi red sari by Raw Mango, Deepika helped unveil Hema Malini’s biography in Mumbai on Monday evening. She looked absolutely lovely.

On an aside, looks like a thread on the pally got snagged creating that puckering effect.

  1. She looks so pretty and comfortable in the sari! And happy she dint do that extremely severe bun. Not to compare but the lace sari hema malini is wearing looks really underwhelming.

    • True. My Mom/aunts have good collections of such Banarasi saris particularly reds secured even from Chennai. It looks lovely. But not sure what is the designer aspect to it, as in, we can get it across many stores in India.

      • IMO designer doesn’t has to be out of this world. it has to be elegant and of course unique. I am not sure what people mean by ‘not designer’

  2. She doesn’t age! Not that she is old by any standards, but her face has the same youthful look it had years ago. I’m her age and I don’t know how that’s possible! Genes- for sure.

  3. I think this was a lot opportunity. Deepika is a beautiful woman. But this saree could be worn with much more pizzaz. The red blouse is not attractive. There is a lot of jwellery but wrong shade of gold. So Deepika’s beauty wins but the saree itself loses out. This is a wedding ish saree …. if she wore it with a lighter touch, more effortlessly, I feel the result would have been more striking.

  4. Sacré bleu….. How could you crop Hema Malini out? I’d rather you would have a joint post on both their sarees…It’s almost a crime!

  5. Wouldn’t change a thing. Wrong shade of gold (jewellery), really? Dowdy blouse, really?
And people compaining about the designer angle, you guys obviously have no idea how real designers work. It isn’t just a case of swanning in and taking a weaver’s work and putting your own label on it, you know — at least not when it comes to a label with integrity.

  6. Love it head to toe. Deepika’s saree look in Piku was beautiful but i don’t how was it any less generic than this? That is how most ladies wear their saree in Kolkata.

  7. this is a woman who looks good no matter what she wears. so no surprises here that she looks great per usual. i am, however, taken aback that she wore THIS to a BOOK LAUNCH?!!! Really? event appropriate dressing is something that most Bollywood ladies are yet to understand. this is a bridal saree — in fact, red banarasis are the default bridal saree for bengali brides. so this outfit is way OTT for the event in question. and even if you ignore the event, the jewelry is all wrong (terrible gold color) and the pleats are not falling like they should. sloppy draping in the pleats — if she was just 5 feet tall, i’d get it. but she’s supermodel tall, so there’s no excuse for those pleats to look like that.

  8. Isn’t is possible to feature both ladies in the same panel/post? A cropped picture with halved Hema Malini or someone else is so unsettling. I’m still not over Taimur being cropped out! Surely the fashion is connected to the story and the event to warrant a complete picture.

  9. Oh my heavens! She looks smashing! I do agree that it is a bit OTT for a book launch but the simplicity of her make-up, no bindi, and her easy breezy demeanour keeps it a little understated still. I am in love!
