Trisha In South Scope: Decoded

Trisha makes her Bollywood debut tommorow opposite Akshay Kumar in ‘Khatta Meetha’. The south star who has featured in a lot of Tamil and Telugu movies was featured in South Scope magazine styled by designer Chaitanya Rao.

While, I love the pieces Chaitanya chose for Trisha, am so horribly disappointed to see the beautiful Anand Kabra sari paired with jeans (see inside). Don’t get me wrong, I love fusion, but this is sacrilege! (Ok ok, am overreacting, but the sari is just so purrrrty.)

Oddly enough, I also couldn’t help but remember Shilpa’s Cine Blitz cover on seeing the last pic of Trisha wearing the Chaitanya Rao ensemble (see inside).

Anand Kabra: LFW Summer/Resort 2010

Consider yourself warned, we are going to be effusive with this collection. Loved every bit of it.

Minis, jumpsuits, skirts, kaftans, trousers, jackets… all separates were tailored, structured and yet, easy. Resort anyone? Also, the clever use of embellishment and asymmetry won us over.

My favorite had to be the pre-stitched saris with the long cholis/blouses. Who says an updated sari has to be blinged out paired with an itty-bitty blouse? The saris on Kabra runway packed a heavy punch. Perfect and so very sensual.

My Mastercard is itching to be taken for a ride.

WTHeyyy!!!

We aren’t sure what was louder… the hair, the jewelry, the so-very-red dress or perhaps, it was the deafening roar of it all being put together… either way, you know the verdict on this one. What really tipped this look into the ‘WTHeyyy’ territory was the bad, bad, bad fit on the dress. There just is no excuse for that.

Here’s hoping Ms. Saran pulls herself out of this style (downwards)spiral she is on… we’d love to see her pull out all stops and really wow us. Soon.

Look inside to see this dress on the Anand Kabra runway. Where it looks leagues better might I add. (You catch Shriya wear a similar dress Here.)

P.P.S: Thanks ‘Varsha’ for the event tip-off.

Haseena And Simone On Verve: (Un)Covered

The Oct 09 issue was all about the ‘Best Dressed List’ and fittingly Verve put those ladies on it’s cover who made their (Verve’s) cut.

While Haseena got to wear my (most) favorite outfit from Anand Kabra’s Spring 2010 collection, Simone donned a Nachiket Barve Fall 09 coat and Malini Ramani was dressed in her own label. As lovely as all the ladies were on the cover, Kalyani Chawla was an absolute scene stealer in her sari.

To check who made the Best Dressed List, go Here.

Lakme Fashion Week Spring 2010: Day One

Anand Kabra Spring Summer 2010, Lakme Fashion Week

Anand Kabra’s collection titled ‘Kumari’ had to be one of my favorites from day one. I loved how the colors and the fabrics were so soft and feminine and then were juxtaposed with those well constructed cuts, silhouettes, asymmetrical hemlines and embellishments. The play between the ultra-feminine and the understated strength is what won me over. Loved the saris, the cocktail dresses… practically all pieces from the collection.

Anita Dongre Timeless Spring Summer 2010, Lakme Fashion Week

Anita Dongre’s “Jaipur My Jaipur” was an homage to Rajasthan and it’s rich cultural heritage and so for her Spring 2010 collection, Anita Dongre used traditional Rajasthani weaves and fabrics like luxurious brocades, satin, net, lush velvets and silks in rich and regal colors. If I were to think of this collection independent of it’s Spring/Summer tag, I loved it. There were many pieces in the collection that would work perfectly with the festive season or in a bride’s trousseau. However with all the heavy velvets and weighty embellishments, it seemed rather oppressive for a ‘Spring/Summer’ collection. Contradicting myself though, in a country like India where seasonal tags like ‘Spring Summer’ and ‘Fall’ are pretty irrelevant, I can see Anita Dongre Timeless really being ‘Timeless’.

Another collection that was one for the ‘trousseau’. Barring a few pieces, it was hard for me to get excited about this collection mainly because it felt like we had seen it all before, the colors, the fabrics, the work, the color combinations… Having said that, I loved the lehengas with the velvet dupattas; the contrast between textures made for great visual interest.

Vivek Karuna Karan Spring Summer 2010, Lakme Fashion Week

An extremely wearable and commercial collection; the pieces from the runway could go straight onto a retail shelf. And for a collection to be tagged with that is quite the double-edged sword. Nothing about the runway was exciting, wearable yes, exciting no. And really, there was nothing to write home about, not about the Jodhpurs and certainly not the dresses. The only dress that stood out was the one that South Indian actress Mamta Mohandas (far left of the pic) wore on the runway. Summery and cheery.
