Sonam in Femina: (Un)Covered
From one editorial with big hair to another. Sonam graces the cover of Femina in a green Stella McCartney jumpsuit and some serious curls.
Love it? The hair, that is.
P.S. Although the Stella jumpsuit looks different from the one on the runway, it is the same one. Sonam just wore it with the front flap buttoned up versus left down.

ooh, DvF dress- how I love and covet thee :)
seriously, the dress is stunning and she wears it so well
awesome! looks stunning! in the Dior!!
gosh..i don’t know :S she does look GREAT in the white dress..is that the DvF? yep, it is…she’s looking fiiiiiiiine there :)
i’m still iffy about the cover. very early 90s…think i’m gonna come back when it’s not 3:15am and i’m not reeling with finals revision!
talk about Barbie!
Wow! does she look gorgeous! I liked DVF pic the most. Looks like Sonam is going through a complete image makeover… Loving it!
She looks gorgeous. In all her pictures, she looks like she is trying to say something and that is what makes her interesting as a cover girl.
ooooo..lala love the DvF.How I wish its mine and mine.Luvvvv it on Sonam.
She looks spectacular.
Isnt that Lakshmi next to Sonam in the jumpsuit? I prefer it on Lakshmi – she has this uber cool confidence that makes Sonam look really boring in comparison. (yea yea i know its almost blasphemy given the army of fans she has on this site)
Also I remember there was recently Sonam v/s Laksmi debate and I think these pictures speak for themselves as to why Sonam can never be taken seriously as a model of international caliber let alone a supermodel. She’s pretty and fashion forward but i think thats about it.
ooooh la la! she’s out there rocking each outfit! yummy shoes that she is wearing with the DVF. loving her hair……and her makeup. she can give bebo and piggy chops a round for their money!
She looks awesome in the DvF and the Dior. The cover pic? So-So!
i LOVE the DvF dress. and the shoes she is wearing with them. and that Stella McCartney jumpsuit? Wow.
i totally love Sonam here. :)
Love this girl. 90 percent of the time, she knocks my socks off!
@Clueless: I don’t think that’s Lakshmi? Her skin tone is quite darker than that of the model in the photo. And if it is her, that’s odd…
Clueless/Kimmy,
Actually, that is Lakshmi Menon. :)
Absolutely love the hair!! She is India’s fashion icon!
@Clueless : yes Sonam cant be an international supermodel, but as far as Indian actresses go, shes has THE best fashion sense, and she photographs beautifully, not to mention she looks different in every photo op (unlike Ms. Chops whom I otherwise Love btw :-) )
looooooooooove it all- the hair and make up included. specially digging the DVF dress!! what else can one say about miss perfect…
I love the DVF white dress and will definitely buying it , at a discount of course, probably at Century 21. However, there is a pretty cute white mini eyelet dress at Victoria’s secret website for $75.
Sonam keeps amazing me. I still cannot believe its the same girl from the Sawariyaa days, in salwar kamiz, always, or some disastrous western outfit with a chanel bag. Then I used to think there is no way this girl can look modern, stylist etc. But she proved me wrong and I am happy for her.
Her make over is as dramatic as Nicole Richie’s .
ugh, i am so annoyed
with…. MYSELF! because every time there’s a Sonam post, I can’t help but sound like off beat record. so I’ll calm down.
she looks great, as usual. love the smile.
ugh, why sonam? just ONE wtheyyy, please?
Oh my gosh I totally love her hair!!! I wonder how they did it!!
She’s a chameleon ..LOVE the ways she experiements with her looks..she looks AWESOME!
I love this one. Hair and all.
absolutekly stunning in DVF & Dior.
Is it just me or is this photoshoot GOD AWFUL! I think she looks terrible!!
you’re blind. It’s just you. awww
Would love to see Sonam on the international scene. She has so much more to offer than FP. Maybe Papa Kapoor can swish her around a bit. I think Sonam is an Indian face with an international flair.
I like how she wears the DvF and fed up of the Dior colour
ICK! The cover looks like it is straight out of the 80s. Hate the cover, hair and the whole look.
Lakshmi looks hot in the jumpsuit though.
I love the cover and the DvF… also the green shoes in the DvF are gorgeous.
However I didn’t like the Dior or the Lanvin… the lighting in the Dior picture casts shadows over her face and makes the dress look wayyy too plain. Her hair also looks too bushy and untamed in these two pics unlike the first two. If it wasn’t for the hair, I would have loved the Lanvin picture.
Sonam kapoor ..if you are looking for ‘it’, you know who got it. Off topic- but femina was always a magazine for mummy to read, with fashion spreads with Sheetal sarees or Bombay Dyeing- you get the idea. Since when have they gone designer?
She gets it.. PC doesn’t. End of story.
Pls id the shoes she’s wearing with the dvf dress!!
I generally don’t like lacy fabrics, but I like the way it’s put together and shot here. I love the cover shoot; looks very spring and jovial.
LOL@Too Poor to be on HHC, maybe they are going according it’s today’s demand, or may have changed their target market. My mum doesn’t have a clue about fashion, but picked good signature saries from Indian Emporium. Maybe today’s mummies are into designer wear.
* it’s = to
I <3 the hair!!!!!!!!!!! I’ve into the va va voom and the dramatic recently, and I love the big curls
they give her…character
I also love this photoshoot, she looks very …her age, and fresh
Thats a good find. Shes versatile and fits into every attire.
DvF + Moschino Shoes. LOVE.
A lot of these outfits have been covered by other blogs ages ago. The least you can do is credit them.
random,
Considering all the images have the info with the exception of the Stella McCartney that we found, I don’t see why we have to credit other blogs for just posting pics.
…I wonder if her hair is really that curly? They look uncannily natural in the last pic. If that’s the case then she must go through hell to get it as straigh as she usually hasit (or perhaps a perm)
…hmmmmmmmmm…maybe not
She pulls off the big hair look mainly because she looks really healthy and not like a twiglet whose shoulders cannot bear the weight of her own head … hint hint.
Anyway she looks good – but heavily styled.
wow. Don’t like the cover much, the green photographed badly I think. But she looks stunning in the dvf dress, it’s a great posture.
Lovvve the hair..now I think her hair is naturally curly, I guess that’s why she looked super straight earlier..there is no way you can make these kind of curls, made up curls always look crap
Is it just me or is she getting a little over exposed now? seems like shes on every single magazine cover going. Shes a gorgeous girl but people are going to get sick of her fast if she doesn’t hold back a little.
Someone’s gonna bring the curls back ;)
i love her hair
curls ROCK always!!!!
and lakshmi looks uber-chic…
does anyone else think she resembles anushka manchanda? anyway, i am not really impressed with any of the outfits in this shoot. they’re not bad, but they don’t have any pizazz either. if it is in any way a great shoot, all the credit goes to the hair and makeup artists. sonam’s face looks great.
I love how she never, ever, looks awkward in anything she wears. She seems like one of those that were born just knowing how to dress and rock the high heels and hold their posture just the right way without looking like they’re trying too hard. Her parents must have really done right by her because I never get a feel of anything but full confidence whenever I see her. I don’t know what she’s like as an actress but if she can do that as naturally as she can model, she’ll get far.
Lakshmi is totally sensational in the Stella M Outfit as compared to Sonam..although the latter is very fashion forward. She doesn’t just resort to the dress and clutch tiresome look. She actually thinks out of the box!
In comparison to other DVF dresses the lace one is so bland…flare sleeves…shudder!
Would love to see the Lanvin dress…
wow … in the DVF .. she is looking so much like Sonali Bendre in her modelling days ..
she looks great in all the pics. i just love her style and easy natural way of carrying the clothes.
would love to see her on the international scene…but i doubt she will get the same attention as fd. the west loves the olive skin tone and sonam would still be considered fair.
she looks like a sunsilk model on a shampoo bottle from 10 years ago on the cover. she does rock the DvF dress, though. agree with bubs. overexposed with a capital O!
sorry i ment *fp*
I love her in the Lanvin and Dior. The jumpsuit just isn’t her…..Lakshmi Menon carries it off with a lot more panache.Big hair seems to be staying for a while, the scorching summer be damned!!
eww her hair is a mess..just like kangana ranauts
The cover didn’t stand out the way it does everytime Sonam graces any cover. But I loved loved her in DvF.
only like the lanvin pic. rest are so so. cover si pretty bla.lakshmi is rocking that look. the dvf dress is so cute
I LOVE HER HAIR!! i WANNNNNNT IT! My hair is naturally wavy/frizzy and i’ve never gotten my hair to look like that…i like this spread very summery and OMG she works those big platform shoes in the white dress like a pro! Does anyone know how tall she is?
@CocoNUT: She is 5’9″ – 10″.
@ewww
why is her hair a mess? It’s called curly hair. It looks natural and awesome on Sonam. And what’s wrong with Kangana’s hair. I think both Sonam and Kangana ROCK curly hair.
@Payal/Clueless: Whoa! So that is Lakshmi! I have to say she looks off there…but hey! I get my two favorite girls side to side, so I’m not complaining! :)
Man. It’s so funny to see the world fawning over these women. Like oh she was born knowing style in and out. and she always knows what works for her. Does anyone know how photo shoots take place? They have stylists people, who have mega experience in styling people according to their looks, photographers, make up artists. et all.
The only contribution sonam and other actresses can possibly make is to refuse to carry a certain look when they totally believe that it doesn’t work for them. Maybe some actresses don’t have the instinct to do that and that’s why we see some horrible cover shoots.
I’m sick of the girl crushes here!
And yes curly hair is awesome. It’s not eww!
@ koel, way to voice your opinion! but be warned, these sonam lovers here on hhc are a fiesty set. trust me, i have felt their wrath and now keep most of my opinions on sonam to myself, just because objecting to anything about sonam on this forum gets people all riled up. but i am glad i’m not alone.
@Koel
The majority have a ‘girl crush’ as you put it on Sonam because of the fact that she does involve herself in her photoshoots, she isn’t just merely a prop. Sonam often provides not only her own clothes/accessories for her shoots but also gives input on her overall look.
Aside from that, everyone loves her because she doesn’t have a stylist, everything she wears is her and not forced and worn just for the sake of it like numerous of other actresses do with all the freebies they get.
oh, also, i’m not sure if her hair is naturally that curly. if you look at the cover picture, the last 2-3 inches are pin-straight, so looks like her hair was made to look like that. idk, i’m not a curly hair expert or anything.
@sugarandspice. .. Really? How do you know that? The fact that she provides her own clothes and accessories for shoots that is? Because I know enough people in the film and editing business to know that most actresses and models do not show up with their own wardrobes and make-up artists to shoot locations, so I see no reason to believe that sonam is an exception to the rule.
And if she brings the clothes too and decides to bring curly hair in style too, then she can just have her own magazine right..what is the point of having ditors, photographers, stylists and all these ‘little people’ who worked so hard to make the shoot so effortless..so much so that people think sonam conceptualized it out of her style sense!
And of course she has a stylist. If she didn’t, she won’t suddenly get so well dressed after her initial appearances before and after Saawariya where she looked like a gawky school girl whose idea of a premiere outfit was a dull sheath and ballet flats.
I have nothing against sonam, she really is a beautiful girl. And there’s no doubt that she’s the only actress right now who carry off any kind of look with confidence. But let’s give her credit for what she does and is capable of.
@peach bellini : lol. Well bring it on is all I can say. We all can speak our mind here hopefully. These fan groups are annoying. This is not a Bollywood fan site.
Well it’s obvious that Sonam has stylists, editors, photographers, make up artist all working very hard to make these spreads look the way they do and in these all she is is the model, a puppet who is told to look at the camera and shot at. But we can’t say whether she has a stylist for her everyday casual clothes or not..As Koel above me oiinted out her initial appearances before and after Saawariya showed that she never really ALWAYS had great style and it’s just something she is developing right now. That being said, I love the Stella Mccartney on the runway, not so much on Sonam. Very average spread but she is gorgeous! I wish I was her height!
@Koel
I know for a fact that Sonam is an exception to the rule, because i know people who have worked with her, and they all have only nice things to say about her. You’re right, most actresses are infact a nightmare for these publishing houses in regards to how they treat them on set etc But Sonam is not one for sure. There is a reason why all the editors want Sonam on their covers ;)
Im not saying that she comes up with the whole concept, that takes a lot of people! and in most of her interviews she gives alot of credit to those her work on the shoots. But she should also be given credit for the fact that she does supply clothes, accessories etc for some of her shoots, and works with the stylist for the shoot, rather than treat them like dirt as some others do.
As for her personal day-to-day style. Sonam does not have a stylist, she gets input from her sister and her best friend who works in fashion, but that is all. And you can’t really compare her candid style now to Saawariya – since Anuradha Vakil dressed her for all the promotional events. She was kept in character for all those interviews, events etc
Just wanted to add – Sonam has straight hair, the curls were done for the shoot.
Sonam looks awesome and amazing as usual in these pics.
inspite of the big hair, she looks lovely
@koel: I don’t think anyone thinks Sonam conceptualized the whole thing out of her own style sense. I think most people are smart enough to know that. But like in all cases (e.g. movies)…the more credit ends up going to the faces who are visible. I think it would be nice if in HHC, the names of the stylists, make-up artists, photographers are highlighted in the posts for magazine shoots.
OMG I’m really truly getting SICK of the debate goin on over sonam…let me voice my opinion
SONAM IS AN AVERAGE LOOKING INDIAN GIRL WHO JUST GOT LUCKY IN THE “INDUSTRY” BECAUSE OF HER DAD
THERE i said it, ah i feel better. Sure she’s pretty, but i’m not going ga-ga over her, stop putting her on a pedestal
Average looking? Are you blind!? OMG some people over here are definitely nuts!
@CocoNUT
I think the reason so many (myself included) are fan’s of Sonam IS because she’s a good looking Indian girl – I like the use of your word average, only for different reasons..She seems so approachable yet stylish. She dresses really well, the same way most of us would if we were stars, and it’s nice to finally see a young star dress well most of the time, and take advantage of the new trends. Most indian stars do NOT know how to accesorize and end up looking awful.
hey cocoNUT—
try the following products for curly hair
Tigi Curls rock- leave in moisturiser
Tigi Curls rock amplifier OR MOP C -Curl curl defining cream (organic)
Tigi camera ready defrizzer
trust me, yr waves/curls will rock like never before
might I also add to CocoNUTS statement, almost everyone here is biased towards sonam, including the moderators. just explains why she has never ended up as a WTHeyyy even though she has given us a couple of those appearances, as agreed by the general public that visits this blog :)
and peachbellini, agree with you. some fanatics have even said she can be a better model than lakshmi menon… umm lollll okay :D
Pri, there is something very oxymoronic about what you said there. “She dresses really well, the same way most of us would if we were stars” (?!?)
that kind of goes without being said. hell, if i was a star like sonam, i would be a HUGE idiot if i didn’t spend the money on labels and dressing well. that doesn’t make sonam more “likeable” or anything, because she’s not the only star who does it. other women in the industry dress well too. and she doesn’t dress well all the time.
the only problem that some of us have is that many here are so smitten by her that they refuse to acknowledge it when others have varying opinions.
and yes, it does bother me a bit that the moderators are somewhat biased towards sonam too, because as go P&P, so goes majority of the crowd here. but at the end of the day, it’s their blog and they’re here to voice their opinions and we should be grateful that they’re at least giving us the space to provide our input. at least it shows that they are open to hearing the other side.
Thanks preeths! I will try that for sure :)
You know what, I’ll admit that Sonam along with other young bollywood women have something that many former bollywood actresses did not, and that’s CONFIDENCE and INDIVIDUALITY. I think that’s why she appeals to so many young indian women. OK OK I’ll admit that with so many acctress wearing the same dresses in different colors, it’s nice to see one that dresses how she wants…
WOW…I want such hair SO bady but I’m stuck with boring natural straight hair. They’re so usual..even people who’re blessed with pretty wavy or curly hair get it straightened these days. Crazy,no?
And the second picture is just breathtaking. Very fresh shoot.
hey correction.. thats a ‘Playsuit’ and not a ‘Jumpsuit’…sonal looks fab though
