Ritu Kumar at Cannes 2009: ‘Spring Fever’ Premiere
Designer Ritu Kumar was also present at the ‘Spring Fever’ Premiere at Cannes 2009. She wore a kurta seen on her previously at the 2009 Femina Miss India contest with a different skirt and different jewellery.
Too simple for the red carpet or just right? We think it was too simple and would have liked to see her in something more elaborate like the outfit she wore at HDIL Couture Week. What about you?
Update: For those who were wondering why Ritu was on the red carpet, son Ashwin’s film ‘The Forest’ is showing at the festival.

A bra could have helped ;)
P&P, your fashion sense baffles me sometimes.
Wow, just about everyone gets invited to Cannes now, eh?
I think clothes are appropriate as she jazzed it up with jewelry. She may want to invest in better innerwear!
it is simple but still like it…its good to show the world that indian outfits don’t always have to be heavy
oh god!!! what a crime. how can she not know what she looks like dressed like that. and those shoes. i am shocked or maybe just sad to see this happen.
omg…why can’t people afford to wear bras :?*points to the first picture*
I disagree. I understand the need for bling and I like what she wore for the couture week but it’s just another suit that my eyes would have ignored.
What she wore to the cannes is just very very cool.. (that’s the first word that came to my mind).
What she did wrong was was wear all black. The way she wore it to femina would have been perfect. The colour of the skirt instantly makes the outfit dressed up.
An actutual hairstyle would’ve helped also. Bringing the hair up would’ve also dress up the look
i think she is dressed just right. she is a designer and not an actress. if everyone was to be all glammed up at the red carpet including the creative team, what would be the difference between them and the stars? i think she is making an interesting statement. the only complaint-her shoes could have been better.
The woman makes the exquisite hand embroidered sarees and matching jackets for years. I cannot believe that this is same lady who has dressed Princess Diana
I like them…. both of them though I like the pairing with the red skirt better
Not many people can do justice to this look. She looks good in it. But then again, she is a designer, there is no dearth of clothes in her house. Why repeat something to Cannes?
the outfit looks better with the red skirt rather than the black she wore in cannes and the shoes are too drab for the red carpet. Not bad but could have been better!
i like the kurta and long skirt look. it’s very boho. it doesn’t at all go with cannes or any red carpet. very wierd choice.
I agree with you K.. seriously it seems like just about everyone is invited (or just goes w/o invitation) to Cannes. Why is she there? Why is Parvathy there? I don’t get it!
where is her bra? ewwww.
The word bag lady comes to mind.
She should have worn a bra…but I agree the outfit is a bit out of place for the red carpet.
It would have been a nice outfit (with the correct lingerie, of course) for a book launch or a dinner party or even a smaller event. But for Cannes? Seriously? She didn’t need to be OTT, but she could have certainly done better than this!
Wow I totally love the Kurta in the second picture, amazing it looks..
I don’t understand why she has to get so dressed up for Cannes…she seems to be staying true to her style, which I admire very much
Designers always like to wear what the want, and I respect that..unlike actors and actresses that get told what to wear, how to style their hair etc.
I’ve never been a fan of these kurta-over-skirt thingies. Remember the green one that Jaya Bacchan wore to Cannes once? Hated it then, hate this one now.
