In Manav Gangwani Couture

In addition to wishing everyone a Happy Diwali on Twitter, Naomi also marked the day by wearing a Manav Gangwani couture sari to an event that she attended on Thursday evening.

Wearing the lace sari the easy-way minus the folds, she finished out the look with a black Charlotte Olympia clutch.

Love!

  1. I don’t want to sound like a hater, but had this look been worn by an Indian artist, with the similar ‘easy-way minus folds’, it would have featured in the wtheyyy section. Just because an International face is wearing it does not make it any better. I’ve often noticed how you guys have double standards when it comes to critiquing international vs Indian artists.

  2. How she even walking in that drape? One would imagine her hobbling along like in a sack race. V V ordinary sari. She looks pretty though.

  3. Let’s see a video of clip of Naomi *walking* in that drape, then we’ll find out if it is the “easy way” or the “hard way” LOL!

She does look nice waist up.

  4. @Jess, I would say as a steady follower of this wonderful blog site, the authors are extremely unbiased and fair in all their opinions. They always concentrate on the fashion and styling itself rather than being biased to a particular personality. Ofcourse there are always personal preferences/taste, but they always give credit where it’s due. Just saying all of this because your comments were really negative. The authors of the blog really know what they’re talking about when they make a comment.
Naomi does look great here. Apart from the drape I don’t think she has worn the sari in a distasteful way.

  5. Wow! Not only does Naomi Campbell look terrific in a sari, it is wonderful that she is wearing one. Sends a message loud and clear to the western fashion world that a sari is timeless, graceful, feminine and transcends borders. Bravo, Ms. Campbell.

  6. The very fact that Naomi is an “international person” (whatever that means) implies that she is used to wearing a variety of different clothing from different cultures.

You cut her slack because wearing a sari “is hard”? Really this for a person with access to stylists from across the globe? I can bet you if she was wearing a kimono (which by the way is much harder than a sari) she would get it right, because she would not get a free pass from the Japanese.

Our artists wear western wear all the time and take the time to get it right. a barely showing strapless bra gets a merciless judgement from you, and yet you cut Naomi all the slack in the world because “she is in international person”?

It’s your blog and you can write what you want of course, but how about cutting a little slack once in a while to the Desi artists as well? You know? The ones who invite you to fashion shows and who, Oh I don’t know, actually made your blog famous instead of having it die in obscurity.

I do not expect you to publish this. Given your past history, only sycophantic and fawning PnP-can-do-no-wrong comments make your cut.

    • Just of of curiosity, why are dresses, gowns, trousers, etc deemed ‘western wear’? North Indians wear saris, South Indians wear salwars. Shararas, Ghararas, etc though an Import are part of Indian culture today. There has been so much assimilation. There are states in India where ‘western wear’ has been the cultural attire (since the 1500’s in some cases) and yet it’s ‘foreign’, so to speak.

    • Whoa! Where is the compassion?
How do you know that IF Naomi wore a kimono she WOULD were it well coz she WOULDNT get a free pass from the Japanese? A lot of assumptions there.
Also, Ive seen a few questionable sari drapes (by Indian celebrities) getting a pass from P&P. Like this one http://www.highheelconfidential.com/mini-mathur-continues-to-work-the-sari/
So Im guessing they approve certain looks because, despite an odd element , the celebrity seems to be pulling off the look. Thats their personal observation which we may not all agree with. Thats about it, I think.

And that last line? Sooo not true!

  7. Neck up she looks fabulous (down in no small measure to a lot of hair extensions, from what I’ve read), but the saree is terrible! Black and red? Tackiest colour- combo ever!

  8. I’m all for non-Indians wearing Indian attire but Naomi should’ve worn this a bit more gracefully. The messy wrapping kills it and she should not be given a free pass especially when she can hire the best stylists to fix up her look.

    • I think she looks more graceful and More feminine and more dignified then the one boob, itty bitty blouse, saree barely above the hoohaa Indian celebs, don’t you think? And I don’t even care for Naomi Campbell.

      • When you compare Naomi to these half-boob sari shows then I would def pick Naomi but just because Naomi hasn’t draped it revealingly doesn’t mean she has draped it correctly.

  9. Sari is a piece of unstitched fabric that is artistically wrapped around in at least 4 different distinct styles- Gujarati, Bengali, Tamilian and generic Indian. Naomi did it her way and she looks terrific. I love the sexy black with red border combo. I am all for artistic license. Another ting- perhaps, no stylist wants to work with her given her reputation for temper tantrums.
