Sari Style
Simple saris paired with bright smiles made these two yummy mummies shine on the red carpet. We were really hard pressed to pick a favorite because both just looked so lovely.
Do you have a favorite?
P.S. We think Maria might be wearing Abraham & Thakore.

delish! i’m in the same position, they both look soooo good!
i <3 both….
I just saw the photos of the event and thought of the exact same thing about these two. So elegant and stunning.
I absolutely love love love Mini Mathur’s saree.
Wow, both look stunning and radiant! Absolutely beautiful!
Loveeee Mini’s color combo…the white looks soo crisp against the purple…Maria’s black saree = boring
I can’t take my eyes off Mini!!!!! LOVE!
Yes, it’d be unfair to pick a favorite. Both look lovely. So simple and elegant.
Both looks truly awesome ! Both wore their sarees well without the half boob show.
I love Maria’s smile and hair and make up and earings. Smile is often the best accessory.
But i also like mini mathur’s saree.
Totally agree. Beautiful saris, so nicely draped and how lovely do they look on the ladies. I am having a hard time selecting the best one, both look lovely!
aww..i agree, they both look fantabulous! imana be biased n say mini mathur cuz she used to be my fav. vj back in my teen days :)
maria all the way!!! gorgeous!!
both look absolutely gorgeous!
two of my fav ladies..no pretense..very original..their looks echo their fab personality!
i love the way mini is styled..the purple bag “gutthi?” really pops, and the white makes her look statesque!
awesome twosome…
Love both, will pick the one who promises to send me the saree first ;)
Both of them look gorgeous- the best dressed of the night, in my opinion! So nice to see such beautiful sarees, worn and accessorised so well.
I think Mini wins this one for me…. plzzz… cud sumbdy tell me if it is a banarasi saree???
Loving Mini’s look.
GOD!!!!!! I have had to wait soooo long for some celeb to show up like this!!!!
I have started wearing sarees only recently (am 23 :)) and all i seem to like in stores are simple sarees like these. Somehow every time i ask for those, the shopkeepers wrinkle their nose and say “yeh purana style hai.. aap toh yeh dekho” and show me hideous yards of puke inducing cheap nets with horrible sequin / lace / velvet work on it. And mostly i walk out without picking up anything and wondering if my tastes are to be blamed.
But yayyy to these ladies!!!! you make me feel sooooo good!!!!!
tell me about it ….. everytime i go looking for sarees, all that they show me is those blingy, net-ty, chamku border sarees with enough ‘stone work to chaff my skin raw …..
i love plain cottons, handlooms, traditional silks but always get such strange looks from shopkeepers and cousins alike ….. apparently i am not “fashionable” enough *rolls eyes*
back to the topic – i’ll pick mini anyday …. i love how the purple pops up against the white … such a simple, classic indian look …. Love.
so true – these days if a youngish person wears a silk or a cotton its seen as being a bit ‘auntyish’ and unfashionable but if you wear a chamak chamak number with a bikini blouse everyones like ‘wow’! This is particularly true in the states and the u.k. Don’t get me wrong fine hand embroiderys on chiffons ect. can look beautiful in there own right but I can’t stand those machine embroidered things on polyster rubbish that so many people wear these days.
so true, so true, same with me. i like handlooms, smooth fabrics and traditional stuff and hate chamki sarees, i feel very uncomfortable in those blingy ones as if they are irritating and poking my skin. and my relatives say they are out of fashion 8-() very weird.
i am with you 100%, rk, swati, ash and shalini. who cares what shop keepers and cousins say. 10 years down the line, we will have classic looking photos, and they will have “what were we thinking” moments.
I Love you for saying that!!!!! Muaaaah…… :) :) :)
Both are stunning but I personally liked Mini better :)
Love them both!! Any id on Mini’s saree and Maria’s earrings?
Maria’s earings are from Shaheen Abbas..i have the same in Green and thy look FAB!!
Loveee the way they both have worn the sarees..gorgeous!!
aww..how beautiful is Mini’s saree!..instant rapid love :)
In my opinion, since these awards are for Indian films (hindi), they should make a rule that all the ladies dress code as a properly draped saree!!…just imagine how beautiful the entire scene would look…:)
What about the men?
love love love love love love !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are both so gorgeous.
Ooooh..Mini’s saree looks like an antique chanderi with a satin border… Both ladies look WOW!!!!!! Bravo for wearing their personalities and for not following the dumb designer statements!!!
How beautiful do they look, in my opinion these sarees and all the ladies in their silks totally stand out from the others in their gowns and blingy numbers. I wish more of them would dress like this as it an indian awards show after all, why not showcase the best of indian fashion? Is minis saree tissue or cotton by the way?
Since they aren’t as much in the spotlight now as they used to be in their acting/VJing days, I think neither of them have stylists but still manage to be consistently individualistic and so kudos to them. As for this appearance, they’ve both knocked it straight out of the ballpark.
If I absolutely HAD to pick a favorite, I’d go with Mini.
Both the ladies look fabulous. I applaud the way they dress, and bring out their individual personality rather than wearing tight, short dresses or Sabya/MM saris and look like any other cookie cutter celebrity. Fab all the way!
Now that’s eye-candy! Young, fresh, fabulous. And showcasing Indian craft.
wow what a fab safer Mini is wearing can somebody please tell me where I can get something like this
Sooper !! both of ’em remind me of nandita das and her elegant style
Maria, OOH LA LA! She looks SO awesome! Love her Sari!
OMG..a simple elegant traditional well-draped sari beats the crap out of these designer gowns, dresses, anarkalis and hideous sequined/patch-worked/ velvet saris any day..
drooling over both the saris..BIG TIME..!! :)
