Harper’s Sar(i)torial
The inaugural issue of Harpers Bazaar has a spread where top designers celebrate the six-yard wonder in their own way through sketches. In an article for MailToday, editor Sujata Assomull pairs some selected sketches with ladies who she thinks are best suited to a certain design based on “the way they wear the sari and not what saris they wear”.
I, for one, thought that the Dolce and Cavalli designs were hardly innovative. All they did was take their most common print and create a drape effect with it. Also, I really doubt Kareena would ever wear that Dolce creation! (But then, we’d love to feature her in a WTHeyyy and that is exactly where she will land up if she wears that. ;) )
You can read the whole article here. (The file size is huge and may take a while to download but here is a screenshot of the article.)

What do you think of the designs and the pairings?
i actually read this a week ago, and was scandalized! not a single saree is pretty/edgy/wearable/classy. and then these are A-list designers! Sheesh!
does it say “YUCK” on the dolce saree;)
the armani is still okay…other are just plain fug.

No way.. they want to dress Sonia Gandhi in a navel bearing creation??? HAHHA.. there go her votes.. geez!!
and the Ash creation looks like a pretty watercolor painting.. who designed this stuff????
well, to be fair, they don’t really keep up with saree trends (plus they make western clothes a WHOLE lot better than Desi designers do)
kudos to them for actually participating though :) it’s an interesting idea
the Armani is lovely, and I would love to see it on Ash; the Moschino is interesting…but I can’t imagine “Sonia Ghandi” and “Moschino” in the same sentence
the sketch for the Cavalli is lovely (draping!) and the Gucci is interesting..but on Dimple?
the D&G is just…ugly
i think the designers are indulging themselves here, definitely. because really, all this article is in my opinion, is just another way to stroke someone’s ego and sink their teeth into another market and saturate it with mess like that D&G getup.
Though in fairness, I will say that the choice they picked for Aishwarya is okay, though only because it’s lost most of the basic parts of a sari.
the Armani and Gucci are beautiful! I’d love to see them as actual dresses! Its really cool that they actually took part in this. I’m sure they have enough work already. Hats off to them!
The only ones I like are Moschino and Armani. But I am not sure about Ash wearing it hehe
Lol. Hasn’t the sari gotten creative enuf yet?
PnP, suggest you post a collage of all the sari drapes we,ve seen this year so far:-)
the Roberto Cavalli saree is gorgeous !
Mucho fierce ! <3
the dolce saree looks like what an indian cave-woman probably would’ve worn back then, (millions of years ago! and she would prob be considered royalty!)
i like the Cavalli, n shilpa would look good in it, plus she likes animal print….
