In Sabyasachi

Hot damn! That was my first reaction seeing Ms. Padukone in this Sabyasachi fusion sari. The sari with its risqué-esque blouse wasn’t an easy one to pull off, but she worked every bit of it!

It really should be unfair to look so good! Le sigh!

P.S. Her tear drop polki earrings are from his jewellery line.

    • you are so right about the polarising bit. but a) great bod b) unapologetic design c) superb make-up etc d) totally event-appropriate e) chutzpah to carry it off.
no question — this is a fashion benchmark for Deepika.

  1. Seriously? The raccoon eyes and tack show on display is le sigh…? I’m quite frankly horrified that an A list celeb anywhere can show up somewhere thinking that this is a good idea. Deserving of a massive WTHeyy.

      • There’s something called elegance and sophistication, which Deepika is lacking in this appearance. There is no problem with skin show, heck many a times it can look absolutely alluring and striking when well done, but when it comes with such cheap fabric, cuts and styling, it looks tacky and deserves to be called out as such. Labelling someone a prude will not make her look any classier here. It only highlights the fact that her fanbots will blindly name call and downvote anything that doesn’t speak favourably on her.

  2. Tacky. What exactly is so aesthetically great about this glittery black and brown thingy?
Note: I am not commenting on face, body, etc – all people are beautiful.

  3. I think she looks tacky and desperate. If it was Jacqueline or Malaika, she would have been called out, but because it’s Deepika, it’s a double standard.

    • That would prbly be coz malaika is more well endowed and so this blouse would by virtue cover a lot less on her. DP has a model-esque frame so she is able to carry off many outfits without looking too in-your-face

  4. Yes she does look hot…but I am not entirely sure of the ensemble, the studded belt looks too stark against the sari. Lets not forget that a sari no matter how much it is westernized , it is a garment that celebrates femininity .

  5. There are some people who by the sheer power of their personality and/or body type can pull off risqué outfits. Deepika is one of those people.

  6. Nope, nothing hot damn about it, It didn’t make me go wow, but made me cringe a little for sure. All the 10 years in Btown and still evolving!! Just plain sigh for that! Sabya or not -don’t attach a stole to a gown and call it saree. That’s just brutal murder of the beautiful Indian outfit :( leave the saree alone or wear it like the way it’s supposed to be, with elegance :)

  7. Had the corset not been so revealing, this would have been a perfect look for me. Doesn’t seem like a saree , the drape is beauty pageant sash-like. DP does salvage it to a certain extent by virtue of her make-up and figure.

  8. nothing good about the sari to forgive the blouse.. i mean, i think its a blouse. since its worn with a sari. if it wasn’t deepika, the reactions would be all kinds of no from people.

  9. There’s something about using the word saree that seems to freak people out here
Yes the saree in its true form is timeless but fashion is all about evolution. If everyone is the western world got picky about the “dress” or “gown” evolving, they’d still look like they’re from the first season of Downton Abbey

Heck if the saree hadn’t evolved we’d be wearing it ORIGINAL style with no blouse

You can appreciate a saree is it’s true form while still enjoying new interpretations

As for Deepika, she looks stunning from head to toe. And yes it’s true that this may have bordered on tasteless on some while it looks WOW on her. But that has nothing to do with “fanbots” and everything to do with how she carries it. The wearer makes the look not the clothes

    • You couldn’t have said it better! She looks like a million bucks and makes every inch of the outfit work. And the same outfit could have looked worse or better depending on the wearer

  10. She looks awesome. I have seen a few videos and she wasn’t shy or tucking her blouse here and there.. she was extremely comfortable, and elegant in the outfit. The belt didn’t need those embellishments I thought.Other than that minor gripe.. she rocked it!

  11. Deepika, looks stunning from head to toe. Smoking hot. I doubt anyone else in Bollywood would be able to rock this look the way she does.

  12. What if I told you that sarees were originally worn without a blouse (insert meme here)!
Whether one calls it a saree or not, no denying that she looks great. Padukone can pull off risqué.
