In Tarun Tahiliani
After a string of anarkalis, Ms. Bhatt changed it up by opting for a benarasi Tarun Tahiliani sari with a Suhani Pittie maang tikka finishing out her look. Loved the sari but the pink eye makeup and the green maang tikka felt too match-ey.

At first glance I thought she got a bump on her head… not liking the makeup at all… that saree is glorious though..
Know how they say take one thing off before you leave the house; well that Maang Tikka should have been that one thing. Also, this is TT not Sabya so she could have ended the moratorium on the hair.
Why is she trying too hard to look older than she is? Lands up being no where.
Dated saree and lackluster finishing touches.
The clothes need to match the vibe of the individual…in her case sadly, the whole styling has been a ‘kalank’ recently.
tbh love the makeup and the sari is beautiful, but wish she got rid of that tikka!
As much as I like to keep jewellery minimal or only one piece as focal point, just a maang tikka looks incomplete. Necklace or matching earring would have looked better.
Maang tika is totally out of the place. Euined the complete look
The maang-tika is so completely unnecessary. I wish she’d swapped it for a nice, thick kada.
Too bare. Really.
She looks like she is going for her school farewell. I don’t mean to be catty but that’s just how it is. She looks like a kid wearing a saree
Umm, I’m 23 and look 17ish on a good day. I wore a paithani to my school farewell, a kantha to my college graduation, haven’t picked out a sari for my masters graduation in July but I know I want a pastel pink one. In 6-7 years, will pick another traditional sari for when I get my phd and look like a freaking awesome kid playing dress up in a saree.
Explain to me exactly what is your catty critique here? That not enough kids who appreciate traditional saris come to die in HHC comment sections??
You do you. Why are you so furious with Newbie’s (correct) opinion of Alia?
Because it is demeaning. This constant ‘looks like a kid’ critique is a demeaning critique used largely for women in all contexts and across professions. It is used in academia to question the authority of new female professors, politics to dismiss young female politicians as non-threats, in this context force an ingènue persona on a 27 year old actress who has had a remarkable career.
I wish I looked 17………;)
How is it demeaning? I didn’t read Newbie comment anything on Alia’s acting chops because she looks like a kid. It’s how she looks child-like in a saree and but this takes away nothing from her acting caliber. She’s a fine actress but her outfits of late are not appealing to the masses or at least what they consider not her best appearances
I also think it is a rather lazy (non)critique of someone’s dressing sense. She’s wearing a sari. What has that got to do with age? She can wear traditional ones. Most of the other comments have issues with the styling which makes sense.
I think what newbie might have meant, and I’d agree with her on this is simply that she’s not pulling it off. There’s no one telling her it’s a bad thing to look like a kid or that she shouldn’t wear sarees. There’s no demeaning connotations here about her acting prowess and it’s certainly not a feminist issue so no point trying to make it one.
Some people can pull certain things off and Alia often times can’t pull off a lot of Indian clothing and off late there’s been many of thos instances. Whether she chooses to continue wearing them or sticks to wearing stuff she can pull off is a different matter.
But nice humble brag though.
Guys, she’s a 23 year old who enjoys saris and has probably been told something very similar by people. We may not intend to be offensive but clearly it may seem so. It is only one outfit worn by a random actress. This is not the hill y’all have to die on.
Actually she is 27
Alia’s 26. And Shashi was referring to Oli not Alia. Sorry couldn’t resist.
I wore a saree for my PhD walk in Austin Tx. :-)
Robe, hat, broken heel and all :-)
Congrats! I bet you’ll look awesome at your graduation :-)
Jesus!!! Can we see where we are? It’s a fashion portal !! What’s with this political correct brigade unleashing their righteousness upon the rest of us. I am sure there are platforms where your beautifully written and very well argued critiques would be much appreciated. I just come here for lighthearted fun, but looks like people are out for blood. Please do not shove your misplaced feminism down my throat. Peace out .. and yes , she looks like a kid in a saree AND she is my favourite actress right now.

The whole thing is too blah for her.. Sorry, but she just doesn’t have the gravitas to pull this look off.
This Alia is so boring, plain and bland. Why do we have to see her daily on this blog? I am sure KJO and Bollywood biggies are paying HHC to cover Alia and other star kids daily. They are shoving these nepo kids down our throats forcibly.
Totally agree on seeing her daily on this blog. I guess its having a reverse effect. Too much exposure. I wish to see her less!!
Dated saree!!! Been seeing the same for 20yrs..same can be bought from Angadi silks Bangalore at a price range of 18k to 25k..these sarees are available in shades with min of two colours.why do designers brands these as if they have designed them.SAD!!!
If she was going to wear a Maang Tikka, she needed one more element- either a bangle or a bindi. It just feels unfinished. That whole look.
I love this Sari!!! Love the colours.
Sorely missing a good necklace. Maang tikka is just weird.
What is a Benarasi Tarun Tahiliani? How are these “designers” getting away with this? Blatantly passing off traditional sarees as their own unique design – and charging an arm and a leg.
Raw Mango does it and now TT does it. Revival has to mean more than minor tweaks.
Alia’s styling team took a mediocre saree and made it completely boring. Alia has worn sarees before with better results.
this looks incomplete
How is this benarasi sari a Tarun Tahiliani sari??? Does adding a border to traditional weave make it designer???
she looks washed out.
Why is she trying sooo hard to look and pose like Deepika? She should dress for her height and bring back her ease and innocence versus trying to appear mysterious
Actually, the maang tikka has green stones and looks nice. IMHO, maang tikka never suits anyone except a bride in her wedding or some reaaaally close relative. That said, I think the hair-raising issue is how these sarees are designer? They designed the weave? The motif? They picked out the color palettes? From the comments, looks like this type of saree is available in saree shops across the country. It is one thing to wear a suit by a designer, a completely different thing to wear a designer saree where the real stars are the weavers.
I find sarees deserve beautiful jewellery. The deep sleeveless blouse and the heavy saree makes the look very lop-sided..bare on top and heavy at the bottom. Don’t trivialize Benarasi by wearing it in a oh-so-casual-way!
Much as I am.not a fan of brands and labels saris are probably made for TT, Raw Mango etc and hence the chhapa. Correctly its just a high end brand and not designer.
Not a huge fan of many young actresses either but people need to tone down criticism. These girls are in their 20s and I am sure all.of us make fashion mistakes in that decade. And wear things forced on us.
How much will she tilt her neck upwards to elongate her neck…it looks painful!! And my mom had a saree almost exactly like this some 20 yrs ago…how is it “designer”?!
That saree needs brighter makeup and more accessories.
Looks like she is struggling to look at ease in that saree. This is what happens when you try to be someone else and not yourself. I have lost all respect I had for you Alia.
Being a huge lipstick girl, the one thing that has gotten me down with all of Alia’s recent looks is the lack of colour on her lips. Now, I love a good nude when paired well, but not on every look.
Why couldn’t her pink shade carried a little bit more punch? Would have made a big difference, IMO.
Why is the narrow zari border only on one side of the saree (see near the blouse)? I do not see it at the other/ lower border. Is that border what makes it a designer Benarasi saree?
She looks lovely. I don’t see the problem here
Love the fact that she is wearing traditional handloom weaves… and wearing it so elegantly! Kudos to her… esp when others are swimming in bling and gaudy outfits. agree on the jewellery feeling unfinished… wish she had removed that and added a nice kada or some other simple jewelery. I guess what they are looking for is not to blend in with the rest of the public, they wish to stand apart ever so slightly or ever so loudly… so cant fault her for the tikka…
