In Play Clan For Ekaya
A heavily dressed up Aishwarya jetted out of Mumbai on Sunday afternoon wearing a Play Clan For Ekaya lehenga complete with big earrings and mogra.
Now, before you jump the gun, we are pretty sure this was not meant to be her airport look. The actor was probably running late from an event and hence had no room to change before heading out.
I don’t know which event she sported this look at, but I have to say, I love it! Many of you had wished for her to do some traditional handloom looks, now that you see her in one, are you loving it too?

traditional, colourful, looks great. the colour combination is good. Aishwarya is gorgeous ofcourse, as always
OMG! I think I died and went to heaven! The lowered bindi, tied up hair , flowers……now if only she had worn a vintage dark blue or purple or maroon kanjeevaram….but ill take this!
She looks gorgeous! And BTW she didn’t leave for Cannes, she was on her way to an event in Gujrat
She looks so beautiful! I love her in this. Waiting for cannes
Gorgeous lehenga. Love it. She probably changed in the washroom of the first class lounge.
Perfecto…. love this look head to toe… <3
How gorgeous does she look! Love everything about the look and she looks heavenly in traditional attire. The colours are stunning and the finishing touches perfect. Isha’s Verdict: Now that’s a look that would stop traffic at the airport!
Who is isha ?
Lol. Someone said it atlast! Thankyou!!
OMG, OH-MY-GOD! Whenever Aishwarya wears such Indian wear, she makes me all the more proud that such a beauty belongs to India!!!!!!!! Now this is Aish, at her best! Can’t stop marveling at her. She looks luminous from each corner.. That saree, chaand baali, gajra, kada must be lucky to adorn THIS beauty. <3 Already looking forward to her Cannes appearances.
+1000..thanku 4 penning (typing here :P) down my thots :)
My friends BlueBells and Himani as much as I agree with your thoughts, what Ash wearing here is a fake, cheap, gaudy Langa-Oni which is a knock off of traditional South Indian silk weave. :)
Agree Sap! To be honest, the dupathha from it’s fabric and fall looked flimsy to me the moment I saw these pictures. Same way with lehenga but I just concentrated on her beauty here. She looks so vibrant in those colours.
Himani: Great minds think alike.. hehe! :P :D
Let me begin by saying…she looks absolutely gorgeous neck up. Love the gajra and over all styling too.
Even though I was one of those who wanted to see her in a beautiful weave..I must admit that I find the dupatta too bright (for that particular shade of pink) and the fall not particularly flattering. I know I’ll be in the minority and may even get bashed but hey, thats my opinion.
Finally I see Aishwariya in something that suits her and is beautiful! Really like this look. One gripe – the pleats are not done properly.
OMG OMG……
Her saare, her make up, her bindi, her gajra, her eyes… And Her smile, her beauty, her elegance… Stunning
Love every bit of it
I find these lehnga saris so strange. At least the dupatta could have been a chiffon for it to give more of a lehnga vibe. As it is it looks like a horribly mutated sari.
It odd seeing a 40-something woman in a pavadai-dhavni and this is not the handloom one meant. Even the grandest most intricate of handloom weaves- an ikat or a kanjeevaram or a Banarasi have a certain organic beauty, a simplicity, which one doesn’t see in these trumped up ones which have expensive designer labels on them.
A ‘not quite’ in my opinion. But what the heck do I know, I’m going to be the only one not swooning about “THAT FACE”
OMG..u wish for it and she grants it….so soon!!! Absolutely gorgeous from head to toe. Love everything about this look. She looks like a million bucks.
Oh My God!!!! So beautiful!! People must have stood and stared at her :)))
Haha… true she is that gorgeous! No offense but these Langa-Oni’s from Play Clan look like cheap imitations of traditional south silk weaves. The Langa-Oni Aish wearing here is not a real silk or real hand-weave, but they must be selling at expensive designer price.
Agree , as fantastic as she looks, that looks like fake silk, nothing authentic about the material. It looks like the cheap knock off of a kanchivaram that one finds everywhere for a much lower price. That is also why the drape and the pleats don’t fall well. It’s synthetic silk.
Also as a South Indian I must add that I do find it very strange when I see grown women in a langa oni. For folks in Andhra, TN, Karnataka this is not a ‘designer’ thing or a trend thing, it’s pretty much rural adolescent attire. The clothing option that comes in afer a girl is too old to wear just a long skirt and blouse and too young to wear a saree.
Completely agree. :) Even when Gauhar Khan wore this Play Clan fake gaudy Langa-Oni, I cringed. Being a South Indian girl I have so many beautiful, real silk and zari Langa-Onis and Saris that they are too beautiful. I can’t imagine THE Aishwarya wearing such cringeworthy fake and cheap handloom. This when I find Ash little bit dumb about clothing choices as much as I marvel her beauty. If she wanted designer wear she could’ve opted atleast ‘Gaurang’ Langa-Oni or Sari. Also agree that Langa-Oni is a traditional teenager attire in South but nowadays even the much older people are wearing in cities just as a trend.
Thank you. This is faux handloom at best, probably at 10 times the price of the real thin.
Haha…I swoon over THAT FACE but I can identify fake and cheap knockoffs of Indian handlooms and crafts. I can’t believe Ash is wearing such a cheap gaudy fake clothing.
Colors are garish but all credit to the beauty and grace of Aishwarya to make the look work!
She doesn’t look a day older than she did in Iruvar. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!
Stunning !!!!
How beautiful she is !!!!
Sigh…she looks absolutely gorgeous!
Ok now if someone nitpicks this look I would jab my mascara brush straight into their eye.
This is perfection.
She looks ethereal!! Love the bindi, mogra and the earrings too <3
I don't care if it was the airport or bhindi bazaar look, I would have loved her in this nevertheless!!
Ah gorgeous just plain gorgeous every bit gorgeous…!!
Yes Yes Yes !!!! A big yes!! She nailed it. She should stick to handlooms and forget about AJSK and MM (not because they do bad clothes, but because she has bad choice in them).
I can imagine her in even simple looking handloom clothes.
She does look lovely
B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L <3<3 I can't say more!!
Is that a langa-voni?
She looks stunning!
She is looking gorgeous. Not a fan of the outfit but the styling is lovely and surprisingly makes her look younger than her age. (If I styled something this way I usually end up looking older)
The Aishwarya from “Kandukonden Kandukonden” is back. :) She looks damn beautiful. The pavda dhavani looks great on her. Calling this a lehenga is definitely wrong. :P
PS: Yes Pavda dhavani was supposed to be worn traditionally only by teen and unmarried girls, but then times have changed. Time has come away from blouseless, topless to full sleeve blouses and bikini ones. And they wear pavda dhavani for marriages now, So I dont see anything wrong with it, as long one is able to carry off. If it was someone like Ms Khan, she would have been pouting , doing silly poses and ruining the whole look and not because of the age.
You read my mind!! Even I was reminded of Aishwarya during her Kandukondein Kandukondein days after seeing these pics especially her legendary green pavadai thavani look from the ‘Kannamoochi yennada’ song! Aishwarya is one of those rare Bollywood celebrities who can look like a bonafide traditional South Indian girl when wearing such gorgeous attires(imitation or otherwise) . On anyone else it has always seemed forced/artificial to me except maybe Priyanka .
Agree Sylviana, that green Langa-Oni from that movie is remembered by everyone as a classic look of Aishwarya. She looks her best when she dons these traditional looks. Another actress from Bollywood who can do justice to these type of looks is Sonali Bendre. She rocks these traditional Langa-Onis and Saris in her Telugu movies, especially in the movie ‘Murari’.
Yes totally! Her gorgeous eyes reflecting that green pavda dhavani in the song was definitely heavenly to watch. She looked damn beautiful in her simple earthy saris in her debut movie ~ Iruvar (the first role -being mallu) too.
This is depressing at so many levels.
– The inspiration for this line is classical dance according to the Play Clan website – but just weaving dancing shapes onto fabric is a bit limited imagination I think. The inspirations from the geometry of Bharatanatyam dance or the filigree jewellery used by Odissi dancers – just SO MUCH there which hasn’t been explored. The design isn’t clear at all jarring and overly blingy.
– The fabric used, while probably silk, is perhaps of lower quality – so the fall is awkward making the skirt look a bit stiff.
– The weave appears to be banarasi and the styling somewhere between a lehenga and a pavadai – I felt the whole thing was very disharmonious and confusing.
– And, back to the dancers theme – if I recall correctly there was a local south indian brand that did this Bharatanatyam inspired saree range several years ago. They used inspiration from the jewellery and the dancers themselves on a palette of kattam (check) and kanjeevaram combination sarees . Or am I fantasising about this? :) I can imagine Banarasi weave being well suited to capture the silvery hues and movements of Odissi.
The only saving grace is that Aishwarya is wearing it.
