On day two of the Cannes Film Festival, the Bachchan duo dressed down with Aishwarya wearing a Roberto Cavalli Resort 2009 blue dress and Abhishek in denims with a white blazer. (Yep, I know what you are thinking. White again?)

You can see more pictures of the event here.

  1. If not for the face I would have never recognized it to be Aish. There something really funny about her body or is it her posture.

  2. Is she pregnant or is that just an unflattering dress? The hair looks stringy too. I do like the fact that she hasn’t dunked herself in white foundation like she usually does. It’s nice to see her normal skin tone without that geisha look she has going sometimes.

The less said about Abhi the better. Let me get this straight. Faded jeans, pink shirt, white blazer with blue piping and a yucky necklace to top it off. I’m sorry but he looks like a lounge lizard.

  3. Actually she’s tanned here so its not her “normal” skin tone.
She looks pretty. The dress is okay but its more than made up with her beautiful face.

  4. She looks more at ease here. She always looks like she is trying too hard. This is a welcome change even though I don’t think much of the dress itself

  5. Abhi looks really odd. I wonder if he is taking his role in Dostana a bit to seriously. Blue piping in a international event, he could do so much better.

  6. Hit the gym, woman, you make the Cavalli look like a $15 discount bin dress with that mid section.
Abhisek is so boring and funny looking, I don’t know what to say..

  7. her posture is off…which is REALLY WEIRD for Ash o_O, her posture is always PERFECT
well, she looks good, but really tired or uncomfortable or something
maybe she’s sick, I get that glazed look in my eyes when I’m sick too
The color is great on her and her clevage always looks great
    Abhi I love but… :l

  8. I like this colour on her. She looks nice but would be even better with less makeup.
As for abhishek…a necklace? ..its a little too much

  9. They both look nice, happy and relaxed. If there is a fluctuation in weight, I tend to assume that it’s because of their roles in the movies. When I watch interviews, they comment on how the role required this and that, so I gather it might take time to shed that weight off.

  10. wow, ash looks fab! her face looks great – nice and fresh and right-toned makeup and actually flattering to her features! blue does look good, but i do wish that she had chosen the version in the picture on the left – would have made the entire look perfect.

  11. Aishwariya looks gorgeous as usual but that dress is ugly! There’s nothing spectacular about it. I actually like Abhishek here!

  12. Hmm, I like her better here but there’s something off… :/

Abhishek WHAT WAS HE THINKING… blazer with blue piping?! that’s so NOT on. was he trying to contrast with his jeans? and the pink shirt which isn’t even buttoned up! I know he was going for semi casual but this is fugly! and mmm, I think he should just grow some nice goatee now. its a bit uncomfortable to see him looking like this.

  13. P.S., the one shoulder dress on the model is just divine.

BTW, to all the ladies here, what is your brand of choice when you go clubbing and everyday life? I mean we nit pick the bolly-gals here for their dress sense. I just want to know a bit about the fab ladies here on this blog.
I go for a lot of Calvin Clein and DVF for work, I am 5’10” , so I love the tailored look of these brands. 3.1 Phillip Lim is one of my fav brands. Jean Paul Gaultier and Dolce are on my lust list, though I can hardly afford them :-(

  14. she looks okay, I also wish she had worn the long version, much better effect I think, but colour is lovely on her.

Have to say that annoying “bais cut” dresses always make tummy’s look big, specially if your not stick thin. The long version would have made her look thinner.

Her make-up is alot better this year, like it is during indian events.

    ENOUGH WITH THE MATCHING ABHI!!!

Lastly what was this event for?? why is abhi sitting with her as they are answering questions or something?? He’s just her +1 not a proper cannes member.

  15. I agree she looks much better here,I think it has to do with the hair let down. She has a round face and the up do made her look chubbier than she is.Her close-up shots are stunning, her make-up is really well done.AND she looks younger too.

  17. I agree with Mita, if you’re going to be wearing all these tight evening gowns and competing with the hollywood lot you should at least try and tone up a bit -, the press are so ruthless abroad they’ll point out even the tiniest bit of tummy. Even if she just worked on those arms a bit she’d look fabulous!

  18. Guys…I dont know what you (people commenting) are complaining abt…what is wrong with the dress being a little tight on her tummy..aren’t all of us Indian women like that…I think she is looking fab….

@ Mita….I assume you have a great bod..even better than a super model as you are advising Aishwarya Rai to hit the gym…I think u need not be so harsh.

What i was trying to say is I adore her for not being stick thin and being able to pull off all kinds of clothes..western and Indian.

  25. This photocall was for the opening of Cinema Verite – movies that promote social causes and human rights. Both Abhishek and Aishwarya were on the panel from the video clip I saw. It was not a dressy event.

I don’t like the cut of her dress but she looks glowing. Abhishek needs to get rid of the white jackets. Although men on the Riviera like to wear white which I saw when I was there.

  26. @Priti – I am sorry to say this, just wearing a dress doesnt mean you pulled off dress extremely fine.
Honeslty, she didnt think she pulled off anything here… its a normal looking, boring dress in a pretty colour.
I dont care abt perfect 10… But I think any one who wants to wear those kind of dresses should avoid a belly. Stick thin or not, Belly is BIG NO NO!

  27. Preeti, as it turns out , I do have a (much)better body than Aish . I watch my diet, hit the gym almost everyday and I am quite tall(much taller than Aish). I wish I could post a picture of myself here, but P&P don’t allow links to other blogs I guess.
But again, I am not at Cannes representing a cosmetics company with flabby arms and big tummy. Not everyone with a perfect figure has to be an actress, but anyone who is a leading actress needs to have a perfect figure. Its part of the job.

  28. you know being on the heavier side myself (US size 8) and surrounded by skinnier gals (US size 2 or 4). if i had aish’s body, i would have no problem at all :) But I guess even with her figure, i would still get criticized. Sometimes you can’t please everyone. That being said, I am not liking her here at all. Even if it is cavalli, it’s ugly.

Abhi and his pink shirt …cute! Only thing I’d change – take thse glasses off his head. Somehow glasses on top on the head looks good on women. Men, not so much

  30. Why are people discussing unflattering body even? Isn’t this site about Fashion and pure fashion?

PnP why are such comments approved. It is totally demeaning and targeting the personality.

On an aside, the dress color is great. The hair being stringing, I can say she dressed up with that complicated hairdo previously and I am sure her hair is taking a break from all the hairsprays now.

    Abhi…less said is better.

  31. I’m not even gonna waste my time and read all these comments above me, some of them are absolutely ridiculous.

Aish, by no means, looks fat or needs to hit the gym. We don’t need another size 0 Kareena. I think she looks great with some extra meat, and if she’s happy with her figure, THEN GOOD FOR HER! As a curvy (PROUD) woman, I love seeing actresses happy with who they are, and not get sucked into the media’s idea of a “perfect figure”

I think she looks great, happy, and confident! It’s pretty obvious that this is a candid shot of her laughing, so that would explain the posture (DUH)

As for Abhi, he looks like aite, not THAT bad…he just needs a stylist

Aishwarya spoke on behalf of Cinema Verite, a special film event dedicated to films and social actions that promote human rights and the eight Millennium Development Goals adopted by the United Nations. She is the first non-hollywood celebrity to be associated with this cause. I think this deserves applause !:)

  36. first off, didn’t P&P issue a notice a few weeks back about rude comments on people’s body shapes?
secondly, mita, what is considered a “perfect figure” is highly subjective. and certain people (e.g. ash, katrina kaif) do look better when they are more curvaceous. because it’s so subjective, i do not think it gives carte blanche to even so-called “great” figured people to criticize those who might not have similar figures. i do agree that perhaps, certain silhouettes are not suitable when you have a certain body type, but by no means does that mean that ash is fat if she chose an unflattering dress. i also think her posture has something to do with it – she is laughing, which means her back was slouched and her stomach sticking out. the camera also adds 10 pounds, so who knows. lastly, she is in the middle of filming a mani ratnam movie – and he is notorious for telling his actresses to gain weight. overall, i don’t think she should have to drop 10 pounds just so some random readers of HHC thinks it looks bad.

And yeah what exactly is Abhi doing there? Loll Did the other members on the panel bring their dates/spouses to sit with them too? lol

  38. @ Mita… I totally get your point…but as someone also said…we need to consider the fact that Actors and Actresses undergo wight loss and gain cycles based on the what the current role demands…I think she is working on Ravan and Robot right now….may be she was supposed to have a fuller figure for either one of them…
And if you think she has a tummy then I should hide myself in a closet and lock it forever.

  39. people, please dont think that just because we think that aishwarya needs to tone down a bit, we want her to be size zero. why unnecessarily drag kareena and her “size zero” into every weight issue?

at ak: since you brought up katrina, might i add that katrina is curvy yes! but she is super fit and toned.

and being 35 doesnt mean she is a dinosaur. she is still YOUNG!

Not that it’s not pretty, but it looks like something I could pick up in a Target or Ashley Stewart…which I think goes to show that sometimes designers are just talk! It’s AMAZING to see Ash’s real skin tone here; I’m glad she didn’t slap on the pasty makeup otherwise this would have been a real disaster- oh but wait! There’s Abhishek, looking positively lecherous! Talk about disaster- who let him go out like that?!

  45. she looks nice here, a bit casual though. it does not matter what size or age you are, as long as you dress appropriately for either one, which Ash always does. Whether one likes the dress or not is a personal choice, so lets keep size/weight out of it. She looks best when she keeps it simple, like the elie saab and minimal jewelery/ with that black saree.

Flabby arms? Big tummy? By what anorexic standards are we looking at these women? Of course, it’s part of an actor’s job to look good (even then, it’s a part- they’re actors, not models). But is “good” just being a size 0? That’s a pretty media-victimized way of thinking about beauty, isn’t it?

Tine with the capital “T”- Could you ease up on the caps please? It’s the equivalent of shouting in cyberspace…

  54. she doesnt look fat but she does look “not toned” – the look you get when you go a few months with not enough cardio/sculpting. A few pounds on a non-celeb wouldnt be as noticeable because we dont dress in high fashion gowns and can hide in easier clothes until we whip ourselves back into shape. THe onus is higher on celebs who make public appearances and photo shoots (this is their bread and butter) to look toned so that they can do full justice to these clothes.

Just because someone says she needs to tone up doesnt mean they are saying she’s not beautiful – in fact, its sadder to see extreme beauty lost by not taking a littel better care..

Standards of fitness are naturally HIGHER for Ms. Rai than for ordinary people – not lower..

  55. @ Pallavi – I agree with you, I think anorexic women being glamourized by the media has taken a toll on all us mere mortals, and probably thats the reason we’ve all turned overtly critical, even in situations like this one, where it’s so not needed.
Ash is looking fine – not flabby, and I don’t spot a big tummy either!!
However, it’s only the color of the dress that looks so great, apart from that there’s nothing so great about the look. And Abhi needs to get a new stylist – what’s with the blazer?? It’s blechh!!

  56. @Pallavi, @Ratan
I too concur. Its almost unbelievable how insidiously the concept of being anorexically thin has crept up on us, as a society. Its like some kind of mass hypnosis perpetrated by the media! Never-mind that I too fall into this way of thinking about the “perfect-figure”…but I do try and catch myself when I do. Ash is most certainly not fat. And the illusion of tummy is just that- an illusion, coz of the angle, posture whatever. She may not have the most sculpted arms. But that does not equal “flabby”. Heck! Look at Anne Hathaway – that woman is rail thin – but hardly “toned”…do we see people go up in arms over her not being “toned enough”. Seriously no-body seems to talk about “being toned” just for the sake of being toned. Its really more about being “thin”…and anorexically so!

  57. I laughed at Mita’s comment. I’m sorry but it was funny & true.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with Aish not being able to maintain her figure as she used to be able to – but I do think it’s wrong that her stylists insit on making her wear clothes that are totally unflattering!!
No one has a perfect body without watching what they eat & excersing 24/7 – & for those of us who can not & do not want to do that that’s fine. But it’s not so difficult to wear clothes that flatter our body & hide the parts we dislike.
If you feel as though you are unsure whether something flatters or suits you ask your cousins &/or friends (the ones that have an eye for fashion & know what suits what body type AND that will be honest). Another great idea is to ask for advice from a sales assistant. I know it sounds unbelievable but if you can find a store with fab clothes AND genuine & helpful staff then you’ve hit jackpot.

  59. i again want to repeat what i said earlier

@ratan, pallavi and aarthi: body image is subjective. what is underweight to my granny is normal for me and is overweight for my teenage cousins. see?

if she looks perfect by your standards, its fine. however, there are many to whom she looks a bit overweight, even to me. being medically trained, i can also tell that her waist/hip ratio is higher just by looking at her pictures. moreover the dress is not flattering her body type one bit!

just because we think she needs to loose some weight, doesnt mean we want her to starve and be reed thin. why drag size zero and anorexia into every weight issue? look at ash in dhoom 2 which was 3 years go. she was fit, toned and stunning and by no means was she anorexic.
