In Manish Malhotra

Comment image 32

It was Manish Malhotra anarkalis for both Aishwarya and Preity at two different events. Aishwarya’s anarkali was so busy with the brocade lining with the sheer over-lay and the heavy-duty gold detailing. Ms. Zinta looked radiant as usual and the color looked great on her but aaargh at the busy design.

Looking at these makes us wish for those days when Mr. Malhotra did subtle-sexy. Can we have those days back? Please!

Update: Added Preity Full-Lengths.

  1. Though both the designs are elaborate and busy, i still like the one on Aishwarya. She looks beautiful in the first pic. The hair, make up is all nicely done. Preity is lovely in that purple one but the suit makes her so top heavy and the arm comes off looking like a big attachment with that velvet overload.

    • The ones they showed(some time back) of MM on the ramp were so gorgeous. Particulary the lehengas. Why aren’t bollywood ladies wearing any of those?

  2. What is his obsession with putting 6 inches of velvet borders on everything …. one or two is ok, but every single piece ….. no one likes those …. its one of the most criticised aspects of his work but still he persists

  3. hahaha this isn’t even “in-your-face sexy”

Preity fares better in the busy-ness…but man…

this kinda reminds me of the rules for accessories that movies of the 90s went against…you know, wearing the whole bangles, earrings, necklace, tikka look…wearing them all over dresses you didn’t need it on?

  4. Preity looks nice.
Nice makeup on Aishwarya, not liking the suit with so many colors & the shape is also a bit weird. It looks like a bodysuit in the middle.

  5. Wow! Ash in the first pic looks like she’s just won her miss india title
that aside, she looks lovely and radiant and keeps getting better with age

  6. Love, love the colour of Preity’s dress. It suits her so well, and she looks so pretty. Now if only there weren’t so many embellishments on the dress.

Ash looks nice, wish we had close-ups. Just hate the velvet border on the dress. The dress, without the border, would have been Diwali festive.

  7. I can’t believe you didn’t put up full length pix of Preity. I would have loved to see what she chose for her footwear which in all probability would have been a welcome departure from all the eyesores others put us through.

      • hate to admit to this now, but i actually bought an MM sari in off white, around the time of mohabbatein. the whole thing has fine chikaankari work and is quite pretty. zero bling. cant imagine the same guy now designs these saris.

    • MM’s designs for Madhuri in Dil to Pagal hai were very classy and subtle. The simple chiffon sarees, the pastel salwar kameez, etc were so fresh. Where is that MM now?

  8. Ash looks like she’s dressed for a dance performance. (remember those mughal-e-azam dances?) MM needs to lose this velvet fetish FAST. But on second thoughts, why would he? The celebs obviously love the velvet since they are overdosing on it.

  9. i love both of them…Preity just looks radiant…love it

i dont understand if desi clothes are not gonna be over the top then wat is it gonna b?

i love it when desi clothes are like that. it;s fun, happy nd colourful.

  10. Even the most garish clothes can be worked if the colours are in sync. Preitys complexion and hair work beautifully against that colour.
But Ash’s hair clashes with everything, the brocade, the work, everything!!
ps. on a side not unrelated – I love how Ash’s mendhi is still strong from karva chauth… no washing dishes for the rich and famous hey!

  11. both ladies looks beautiful! but as for the dresses i’ll go for preity’s.its kindaff over the top n a way but well ts Diwali after all! where else 2 have a splash f sparkles!lol
anyway i loved how radiant they both look!n well i love purple with preity it is 4 me..
