In Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla

To no one’s surprise, Shweta picked an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehenga to wear. Smokey eyes, diamond jewelry and a matching potli rounded out her look. Wish the bustier wasn’t quite as shine-y and fitted better… Would’ve greatly elevated the look.

As is though, while it might be a lot to take in, the statuesque Ms. Bachchan made it work for her.

  1. Rani got you prudes (your words; not mine) clutching your pearls with her dupatta drape but the “statuesque” Ms. Bachchan makes this bustier work.
Can we please do away with this sort of commentary all together? It reeks of double standards and how some body types are policed more than others.

For what it’s worth, from a personal and fashion perspective I prefer the more traditional styling with lehengas and blouses. This AJSK, however, is beyond the point of salvaging even if the blouse were a more traditional choli style. So, no- no amount of tampering and tweaking with this bustier would elevate this look greatly or even a little in my opinion.

    • I agree with Payal’s prude comment. They had Anand Karaj in presence of Guru Granth Sahib (holy book of Sikhs) where you cover even your head. Ladies never wear anything revealing to Gurudwaras and I was surprised (and not pleased) to see all these skin showing outfits.

      • I had the same reaction regarding MANY of the outfits, except Kareenas. There was too much skin show for Anand Karaj, and in my opinion, bordered on disrespect. Kept mum because I am tired of being stereotyped and insulted as an “Aunty” on this blog.

        • The Guru Granth Sahib was present only at the day wedding. Not at the reception. :)
Do agree with you all that there was just too much vulgar skin show, though. Specially Kareena…didn’t expect that look from her at all…she looked like a cross between her costumes in chameli, chammak challo and mera naam mary!

      • Well, they had a problem with Rani’s dupatta at the reception as well. So, it was definitely not about the religious “disrespect.”
Not that I support that narrative either.

        • Gurudwaras do not allow people to enter the compound without the head covered, let alone the building itself, this includes young children and men, and the Granthi is fully within his rights to tell you to cover up or leave if you are inappropriate. This wedding took place in a private home, so there was probably more laxity, but I think it is disrespectful to want to get married within a particular religion’s tenets but insist that your guests don’t have to follow the traditions of the institution. It is insulting to those of us who hold our religious traditions dear. This has NOTHING to do with age, being a prude etc, but simple respect for another religion and it’s norms. It is possible to choose to get married Outside of religious norms if they are too restrictive.

  2. The bustier top is too teeny for her (not to be ageist but some things r meant for younger girls) and that is just too much colour to take in. Too loud, too bright and just too much.

She looks like Abhishek in drag. Nothing is working here sorry!

  4. How is it staying up there ?
There was this sweet heart cut to Rani Mukerjee’s choli which looked tacky as soon I saw her picture. Shwetas although is teeny-weeny, it does not immediately shout out tacky . It does seem like few sizes smaller though

  5. She looks better in simple clothes and less makeup . Yes bustiers should be left to younger women but this outfit is too loud for her as she generally wears soft colors

  6. This outfit is a lesson in oxymorons. The skirt is traditional while the shiny bustier looks like a JLo concert performance top. Her styling is good but overall its way too gaudy.

  7. I am sort of repeating my other comment!
But my eyes actually hurt and my head as well because I am unable to make sense of how any of the AJSK outfits each one more garish and an assault to one’s senses (atleast to one of mine) gets picked by celebs over and over again? What is it that I am missing about their outfits?

  8. Sorry P & P – This outfit doesn’t do her any favours in my opinion. The skirt literally belong on a bride at her reception. And the top – just No.

  9. This top and the lehenga don’t go together at all. To me, it looks like she was getting ready and realized in the last minute that the choli had creases that needed ironing. But after ironing she forgot to wear it, absentmindedly walked out with a potli, in her brassiere and lehenga.

  12. I usually like Shweta’s sartorial choices. However this is a miss for her. She could have rocked the Kajol look. That being said, Kajol looked great too. Not many can pull off those steely greys.
