Shoe Spotting

Remember some time back we had posted about Priyanka Chopra being chosen for Ferragamo’s ‘Shoe For A Star’ project? Here’s couple more pictures from the event…

While I love Ferragamo (And I really, really do), the shoe Ms. Chopra is holding up is just plain fug! Am just hoping these weren’t custom made for her. Fingers crossed. Am also hoping we never have to seem them on her. Need more fingers.

  1. The shoe priyanka Chopra is holding is the one Ferragamo custom made for Maharani of Cooch Behar..the first Indian lady to be honored by them.

Priyanka is the only Indian woman Ferragamo has honored thereafter.

  2. oh ho girls! these shoes were custom made for Rajamata Indira Raje of Cooch Behar, an extremely beautiful princess and a legendary socialite. She is Maharani Gayatri Devi’s mother and an ardent fan of ferragamo.

  3. These shoes are part of the vintage collection of Ferragamo. They were custom made for the Maharani of Cooch Behar.. they are displayed in the Ferragamo museum in Florence, Italy. I saw them there… they have diamonds, sapphires, rubies and emeralds which you can see on the wedge… One of the few examples of India’s tryst with luxury before the current explosion we are witnessing now..

  5. The shoe Priyanka is holdig was coustom made for the Maharani of Coohbehar , Indira Devi, probably in the 1930s. Its a replica of that, I guess. Indira Devi was a fashionista and famous socialite . She spent a sizable pat of the year in Europe traveling, attending and giving parties, gambling etc, you know the usual royal stuff, cuz the British was ruling India for them so these royalties had loads o free time and tons of money to spend.
Indira Devi was a shopaholic, I would say and a patron of Ferragamo. She usually ordered tons of shoes and bags from them, all custom made, of course. This particular pair of shoes is the proof of her extravagance, its studded with rubies and emeralds. it was named ‘Maharani’ wedge sandal .Indira Devi ordered other outrageous shoes as well, shoes encrusted with diamonds and pearls etc. Indian royalties in the pre-independence era were legendary when it came to spending for luxury items such as Cartier,Bently etc. in Europe

  7. not only does the shoes look scary! she does not look nice up close in that pic.

I’m sure she would have some say in the custom design?? but then again it has a sort of “indian” embroidery style pattern no the platform part, maybe they were bollywood inspired! lol

  9. Hate IT! a very wierd shoe.
Maybe the metallic part in the platform is a new look or something and maybe if used a little differently on the shoe might look better, but I highly doubt it.

  11. hmm…loks a lot like the ferragamo maharani sandal. Apparently ferragamo was so inspired by the sari that he decided to immortalize it in a pair of wedges he created…I agree…ottally fug

  13. @ MK – Thanks for that little bit of fashion history! :)

  15. it does look like a replica of the maharani sandal. considering it was made in 1930s and for royalty, it will not appeal to the modern consumer and i don’t think it is intended to. try doing an image search for maharani wedge to see the original

  16. Hmm well the shoes aren’t very appealing right now but it’s interesting to see the style and type of shoe that someone in the 1930’s got custom made from this fashion house…very interesting. It’s obvious that she just posed with it because of the great Indian connection, it’s not like she or anyone now would wear it – that I know of.

  18. I’m surprised that there’s so much history behind a pair of shoes and even more surprised that so many of you are aware of it! Thanks!! I didn’t know they were custom made for a Maharani (or that there was a Maharani named Gayatri Devi).. haha…
I love the fact that there’s TONS of gorgeous shoes just lying around Priyanka’s feet.

  19. The shoe seems to have some history, if they have expensive emeralds on them, they should have been designed better, they are so fugly. The ones on the floor look so yummy tho, wanna try them lolz.
