In Zuhair Murad
While at the races in Mumbai (that her family hosts), Natasha was photographed in a Zuhair Murad dress. The big Arturo Rios fascinator aside, the socialite rounded out her look with a matching Chanel bag, Fendi glasses and metallic Gianvito Rossi sandals.
Natasha always breaks out elaborate fascinators on derby days, so this didn’t come as a surprise. Was the whole look a bit much? Sure. Was Natsha being extra? Yes. Does she pull off the drama? I am going to have to say yes to this as well. Whether your cup of tea or not, you’ve got to concede, Natasha went all out and owned it too!

Anyone one else thinks she looks like Dolce and Gabbana’s Floral Drops perfume bottle?
Fashion forward or not, I cannot imagine stepping out in public wearing that thing on my head.
I will love to have that hat for my next Kentuxky derby.
I am pretty sure so no one else is buying it, it will be on sale pretty soon. Good luck! :)
When I love my marzipan cake decoration wayy too much…
That fascinator is a joke, seems like a flower is growing on her head. Ridiculous! That gown is too snug around the bust, how is she even breathing? I understand ‘drama’ but this isn’t drama..this is making a caricature out of self in the name of fashion. Double thumbs down!
Derbys are known for their hats. Google Royal Ascot or Kenticky derby, it is all about hats for ladies. The more whimsical and creative the better. Fascinators are more convenient than hats in heat.
I love this look! It’s glamorous racecourse fashion served with a very occasion-appropriate dash of English eccentricity. I’m bracing myself for scathing comments from people who don’t understand the purposefully outlandish and whimsical nature of headgear at such events though.
Perhaps, we don’t, but I am sure Kate Middleton understands the “purposefully outlandish and whimsical nature of headgear at such events”, yet I have never seen her wear such a hideous fascinator.
And since kate Middleton has not donned this Natasha poonawalla shudnt either right? It’s weird how we need an nod from somebody else to validate our own choices…she has an over the top style and goes for it…mayb Kate Middleton doesn’t?
But Kate Middleton’s style is the opposite of English eccentric. She has the safest, blandest and most prim and proper personal style. A typical posh English socialite would have messier hair and much edgier clothes. Look up best hats at any of the major races and see what comes up: whimsical and playful headgear is the norm.
As a royal, Kate is limited by protocol. I still do think this hat is a bit out of place in Mumbai, but who cares…
You are totally right. Hats are main attractions at every horse races. Only some one who has been to a kentucky Derby, Belmont, Ascot or Preakness will know the importance of big fancy attention grabbing hats or fascinators. .
Great gown – check
Too tight at the bust – check
Hat which makes people go bonkers – check
Reminds of Kajol’s dialogue in K3G. ‘gamla nahin vase’.
A giant succulent sitting on top of slender vase like Natasha.
She looks great in that gown. That humongous flower on the head is an overkill. It is plain comical!
She looks ridiculous!! its like a flower growing out of her head.
Ha ha! It’s races not fancy dress! it is definitely extra. Even if she wears it confidently, it still looks ridiculous! The gown itself is very elegant and delicate!
The gown is lovely for a day event. Natasha wears it well. The fanscinator, on the other hand is a different story altogether.
Who wears a gown to the races??? That head piece is squashing her little head – she’s having difficulty holding it up!!!
Kindergarten Annual Day anyone?
you echoed my thoughts..
reminded me of the time when i was dressed as a sunflower for the kindergarten dance….
She must have blocked the view of an entire row behind her with that giant blue hat. The dress is too sober for that blue rose, the rose is 2 sizes too big, also needed slight inclination, the vertical position makes it laughable
Now that you mention it , thats all I can think about. People must have been pretty pissed at her for blocking the whole field :D
Also in the first set of pics the hat/fascinator/gamla/vase/whatever that thing is looks photoshopped on her.
This is the perfect occasion for Natasha to showcase her innate sartorial drama. She looks entrancing.
Laughed my heart out after a long while. A very comical looking being. Whoever made her wear this on her head must be having a good laugh too.
Cos of that silly flower the gown could not get a closer shot from the camera. This is whatteyy!!
Where is Natasha? All I can see is a big blue flower and not too novel gown
Ohhh my neck hurts just looking at it
The gown is actually pretty….very unicorn-y colors except for the bad fit at the bust.
But the fascinator is just OTT!
Isn’t it hot in Mumbai to be dressed like that? I’m sure you need to be outdoors at the races and damn it’s going to make you want to just tie your hair up and relax in some roomy clothes
It’s like when in school they make u a flower or tree.
All I can say is I feel sorry for her poor chest
LOOK AT ME! LOOK HOW MUCH MONEY I HAVE!!!! (Dances and jumps like Amanda from friends)
I’m just rubbing my eyes after seeing this… Did I just see a giant dressed up walking flower??
I believe the fascinator doubles up as an umbrella. If the sun is too bright then adjust the fascinator to bring it to a horizontal position. LOL
After looking at this, I need to read up on the definitions of whimsical and comical. Apparently in the world of fashion, both the concepts are interchangeable.
HAHAHAHA, visited your blog in the middle of a stressful day thanks P&P for comic relief!!
In the third picture where she is bending down, I’m worried she’ll tip over.
I totally disagree, its impossible to look beyond the fascinator. It’s supposed to be a cohesive look with proportions that compliment the look. She is totally off the mark!
Thanks for the laugh! She looks like an idiot.
I say WHY NOT!
Only thing I can think about is how did she arrive at the races..how did she for inside a car or was the fascinator added at the venue?
Reminds me of kids in school plays – we used to play the role of a “tree” or a “Shrub” or some big fruit!
Just because it is a horse race event in India, does not mean it’s the Royal Ascot. It just looks out of place in the Indian milieu, comical even.
Actually most race goers at high profile events like this, particularly the people seated in the boxes/lounges, do take fashion inspiration from the Royal Ascot. There’s nothing typical to the Indian milieau (however one interprets that) about this race: it’s a rarefied post colonial pastime conducted at Mahalaxmi, which in itself is modelled after a famous Western racecourse. It’s perfectly appropriate for her to have dressed like this, especially considering that she’s the First Lady of this occasion and is allowed to stand out a bit . The amount of ridicule she faces simply for being whimsical and having fun with fashion baffles me.
Don’t be baffled Vish! I will speak for myself here. I judge and express my opinion about a look based on how it looks to me. I don’t go to races and I don’t understand and frankly care about about high society races and fashion thereof and First Ladies trying to be evocative of royal ascots and what not!
It may be whimsical and oh so cool and fun if you look at from that perspective. If you didn’t expect everyone else to look at it from that perspective you may not be so baffled by the ridicule. But in fact if you look at it from that perspective then there is nothing original about this fascinator. She has simply copied someone at one of those races abroad.
I’m totally okay with the hat, it’s whimsical and silly and totally on-theme. Those stilettos, though, are an abomination: it’s an amateur/wannabe move to wear open-toed pointy footwear to the races.
I love the visual treat this presents and kudos on the facinator as well. The only complain I have is the snug fit. It makes it look like she is spilling out at the back whereas she looks pretty toned on other occasions
Some of the pretentious royal-wannabe splainin’ on Ascot and Preakness….Well, let’s look at this from fashion and esthetics, and whimsy.
Esthetics-Loud and OTT
Craftsmanship-Hurried and meh
Class-“Look at me, I’ve arrived!”
Whimsy-Tries hard, but fails massively
Verdict-Super pretentious stuck-on-the top “fascinator”
