  1. She has such an amazingly electric sense of fashion! I don’t care if people trash it, but I absolutely adore! She has a zany choice and dons precisely what she likes. Spunkaaay!

  2. I am undecided …

I know she is prggers and all but the color of the dress makes her look like a globe.

I know its Granmmy and you can be lil spunky but those shoes….

  3. Did you see what she wore when she was performing? Shocking!! But I have to give it to her, she has the attitude to carry it off. And God, she performed at nine months, wow!!

  4. LOVE IT!!!!!!
It’s M.I.A. darlings (the face of Marc by Marc Jacobs – last year I think, he handpicks his models, and there is a reason she got chosen ;) ), she can’t really go wrong. LOVE Manish Arora, and I can’t really fault her for those shoes because not ONLY was she PREGNANT but that was her DUE DATE and she PREFORMED!!! D: Crazy lady…
Hell; if you can’t tell already- I’m a total fashionista, and you couldn’t PAY ME to wear heels through my last trimester, much less on my due date. She literally supposed to have her baby at anytime.
    (p.s. THANKS P&P!)

  8. this is sort of growing on me
though i could never IMAGINE pulling it off

but yes saw the polka dot thing on stage – definitely not impressed by that
i mean i have no problem with women showing their pregnancy but that outfit was bordering on inappropriate for me (the black and white stage outfit – not this one)

  11. i dont really like manish arora… but i have to say MIA looks very ‘herself’ in this outfit.
if anyone else wore this they would look hideous

  12. She has very unique taste, but I think she looks a lot nicer when she’s not being so unique. But yes this is very her. I can’t imagine that anyone else could carry it off.
    Weird pose though…

  13. I LOVE this on her because it fits who SHE is. I would not expect to ever see her in some colorless, traditional type outfit at ALL! And I’m sorry, but you would be crazy to think this woman was gonna wear heels in her ninth month- on her frickin’ DUE DATE! Her ankles are probably as swollen as her belly! Good call, P&P!

okies u are over reacting, I mean look at it, JUST LOOK AT IT, I could dress her way better with flat black shoes and a flowing light green or charcol chiffon dress to make her look sexy and edgy and beautiful but it seems like she is making fun of herself and her pregnancy by wearing this, there is thin line between being a fashionista and edgy and looking stupid for the sake of being different, I think her both outfit, the poker dot thing during her performances and this one speak of her lack of taste in fashion

  15. I don’t think MIA is trying to look conventionally “fashionable”. Most other “WTHeys” are women who are trying to go through the common values of fashion and failing. But MIA has her own thing, her own look and thus, pulls it off! Her music is so original–as is her taste in fashion.

  16. @me

have you even HEARD Paper Planes?!
because the idea of M.I.A in a green chiffon dress and black flats is making me laugh
and while her “poker dot” outfit on stage DID make me a bit uncomfortable, I still give her kudos for wearing it with such panache (and managing to stand out amidst the likes of Kanye West and Jay Z- who btw, seemed very amused)
I would wear the chiffon dress and flats if I was pregant- on M.I.A it’s more ridiculous than this
fashion is more about self expression than anything else- and she’s not stupid, she knows she would have looked more “acceptable” miming Angelina, but she wouldn’t have looked like her self
being a true fashionista is about wearing something like this and managing to still get your attitude to shine through- which is why we love it

    ….
Bravo! Couldn’t agree more with you. This is her and if wearing this would make her more herself, then why not! And she carries it with attitude to boot.

  18. While MIA carried off this jesterlike creation, I wonder how lovely she could have looked had she worn something else. She has the looks, the potential for coming out looking smashing. I guess that unfortunately is not her agenda. She should be out looking for freebies from couture land. Of course, they may not give it out to her, as she is one hard working lass. She might have to buy them, which I guess may not happen looking at her own ishtyle.

  19. @ you guys
I don’t get the phrase “its her” what do you mean, okies let me give you an example, there was night that I was going to go some where, I wasn’t feeling well and didn’t feel like dressing up or wearing make up but I did wear a dress and did my hair and make up, NOW the dress and etc were not me, I in side was tired and not in mood for dresses, does that mean that in order to be me I had to go there with my pejamas and uncombed washed hair and yellow face just cause it was how I felt, NO, so if she feels like a clown inside does it mean she has to wear this dress and hideous blue shoes to prove she feels clownish, I don’t get it, you can be creative and stand out of the crowd by wering something edgy but edgy in a way to wow others not to make them look at you and laugh inside, especially the polka dot custume my god it looked like as if she is wearing a diaper

  20. Well, MIA got totally dissed last night on Fashion Police….and so did Manish Arora….
She got the Worst dressed award…
But kuddos to her to having the balls to carry off both looks with panache and rocking in the polka dot emsemble…

  21. some clothes should stay on the runway.
nobody can get away with wearing a tinfoil or a bunny costume in public just because its all abt self expression. thats why there are dress codes. but some people dont care about norms or acceptability or flattering frocks :)…to each their own.

  22. “Its Her/ Its Him” refers to the attitude, the vibe the person gives off every single time. It is a state of mind, of belief and a perception of oneself which is open to interpretation by others. Some like it some dont. It has nothing to do with a person’s current physical state or how one is feeling healthwise on that particular day

  23. i fully agree with MIA’s uniquely different fashion choices. It’s a little difficult to explain or understand, but it only a certain kind of evolved mind and originality of personality-cum-thinking will try out this kind of stuff. it’s not about choosing to wear something overtly different just to make a statement to other people – these are outfits and appearances that genuinely reflect their inner minds and personalities. that’s a rare breed, in any field.

Comments with links will not get approved here, so I can’t post the direct link to an article that superbly explains what I’m trying to say here. but just search for “why fashion needs eccentrics” – it’s on Harper’s Bazaar
