Delhi Couture Week 2012: Anju Modi
At the Couture Week, Anju Modi presented a collection titled ‘Devi’ that drew its inspiration from Bengali literature. Below is your look at it…
P.S: Madhuri Dixit walked the runway for Anju Modi. Look inside for the images.

Why was madhuri given d worst outfit :/
Sukriti, you hit the nail on the head! i wish she’d worn something more edgy for a change. They had real gems to choose from and yet…
I heart the sindoor.
Stunning. Has she used some dhakai and bengali handloom motifs? Beautifu! This is what we want from Indian designers, a unique look, a fresh take on classics. Almost done what Sabya used to do before he went all commercial! cool!
i like! and madhuri looks gorgeous!
thanks for FINALLY putting this up priyanka! Loved Anju Modi’s collection, really someone to look out for, I believe. Love the cuts, flow of fabric, colors. I watched the whole show Madhuri as the ‘Devi’ she did a great job and looked soo beautiful.
Wow.just wow! This looks like a Sabyasachi collection that was scrapped. Inspired by Bengali literature indeed!
Bengali literature you say? Well, apart from the much abused red & white color combination I don’t see anything Bengali in this collection! :)
Madhuri looks like she’s walked straight out of Devdas…
She looks stunning… love the first outfit.. i’d take it even without the green underlay :P
also the white one in the last row… gorgeous..
this is definitely refreshing and madhuri looks beautiful.. very serene and pleasant..
‘A thing of beauty, is a joy forever! ‘- n no not referring to the clothes here ( though they aint bad ). MD, u’re one gorgeous woman ! :)
every other dress except madhuri’s is gorgeous
When will Indian designers move away from red, zari and volume (hate the volume most) with some random jacket. belt thrown on to make it seem different? As a special mention Ms Dixit’s dupatta looks hideous with those large gold scallops that look like the red cloths used to chadao on a deity.
And Ms Designer, Bengal has a culture with a distinct aesthetic that – gasp – can come up with a muted colour palette free of bling. Just look at any simple Bengal saree. Please don’t trash that aesthetic by claiming this as being derived from Bengali Lit!
PS: Most of the stuff posted on the fashion shows seems really “thaka hua”. Nothing interesting really can we just return to regular transmission?!
I agree with every word!
I am really on the fence abt this collection. Few pieces are stunning but most of them I am sorry I don’t like. And especially hate the MD one, its the worst.
The only “Bengali” element that I can see in this collection is the play with the shaada shaari, laal paar (white sari with red border), which has not really been done as creatively as I’ve seen in the past either. There’s so much more to Bengali artistry including kaantha embroidery, patch works and so many different types of cloths and sarees. This seems like a very ‘bollywoodesque’ take on Bengali literature and doesn’t come close to the craftsmanship and imagination of Sabyasachi’s collections. I feel like the concept is great but the results are blah.
Some pieces are quite nice, but I’m tired of voluminous skirts. Wish she included some pants in her collection.
