On The Red Carpet
Nominated for her song in Life Of Pi, Jayashri Ramnath, more popularly known as Bombay Jayashri was in LA taking part in the Awards festivities. In her beautiful kanjeevaram saris, the carnatic vocalist stood out on the red carpet, in the best possible way. Love.

Her voice is Amazing!!! She looks great in her Kanjeevarams.
Amazing!! So classy looking!!!!
I’m glad she remained herself, but looking purely at the dress, I’m not a fan of the green/purple combination. Too glaring for my taste, same for the pattern.
The pattern in the first saree is known as a temple border.
Beautiful! Love her smile as well! :)
Love, love, love the red saree.
Beautiful.
Gorgeous!
I love both the looks ! Its hard to go wrong with a well draped, proper bloused, Kanjeevaram silk in formal events.
Gorgeous!! I wish she’d got the award instead of Sky-wail, but oh well…
PS. Why no Suraj Sharma sighting? He looked so so handsome in his tux- very sharp indeed (please don’t tell me it’s creepy to lech at a boy so much younger than I) :)
He is 19. You are given a pass :)
LOL at the sky-wail reference. you are funny.
Love the temple border sari. The red one seems a tad flashy. Her makeup also seems slightly
Draping could be better
yes, the saree needs to be draped better, it seems like she just threw it on.
Agreed! Kanjeevaram pallus are not meant to be left open, doing so only adds bulk. You can’t even see her body shape here.
Disagree completely. There is NO rule re Kanjeevaram pallus being left open or closed (and I come from a long line of saree weavers and sellers of Kanjeevarams). Plus, because Kanjeevaram silk is heftier, folding the pallu can add more bulk than leaving it open.
I think the drape looks fine – this is extremely common for ladies in Madras who wear Kanjeevarams.
Guess you have never seen Vidya Balans draping. Haha!
i am a huge huge huge fan of her singing. but the red saree is flashier than what she usually wears.. doesnt seem to suit her well.
but her voice, calm demeanor makes her the most beautiful
beautiful & classy
She does looks amazing!!! It maybe a little flashy but its definitely not tacky and if you don’t go all out for the oscars, where else would u.
I love this.
lovely lady.
Her voice can calm down the most tense situation…. I love that she went so traditional. She looks very good on the red carpet. I think the photo of the party is not the best resolution, as that saree normally looks much better.
loud as all hell!!! she could have replaced the red ball on her forehead with a smaller one, at least with the red sari. Yards of bridal material and so inelegant… that’s what it is… period. If not for her composure, this would have been bad.
Mrs. Ambani too was there.. can we have her posting please?
So fabulous! I love the temple pattern! I have the same saree on the left. But she carries it off with so much poise!
I love that older south Indian ladies wear their Kanjis with such elan, and no certainly not gaudy. The colours don’t clash, the fabric is luxurious, there is a grace to traditional saris. Calling a kanjivaram gaudy is just ignorant. They are meant to dazzle.
My captcha code is xTIMES 8=56. COME ON!!!!
It doesn’t matter what you put in. Just put it any number. It lets you go through. Yaay! I cracked the dreaded CAPTCHA code.
Aishwarya Rai wore a similar saree [ purpe with temple border] when Mr.Amitabh Bachchan was being felicitated. Gorgeous the sarees…gorgeous the women who wear them !
