Once More

Oh Gul, Gul, Gul.

It can’t be that hard to throw on a pair of well-fitting denims, a great top and a decent pair of shoes, can it? And yet, you give us this?!!

Sashikant Naidu, Asmita Marwa: LFW Summer/Resort 2010

The saris in Sashikant Naidu’s collection were beautiful. Soft, fluid and so feminine. The hand painted motifs in the kalamkari form on the more organic color palette of the line really stood out. The dresses weren’t as impressive as the saris barring a kaftan dress or two but the saris themselves more than made up for it.

After having been blown away by Asmita’s previous collections, especially with her use of Kalamkari and more recently, the Telugu script in the previous collection, this particular one came as a colossal disappointment.

Sure, there were some very wearable separates but the collection got repetitive at one point. Asmita stuck to her signature look of easy flowing organic maxis, jumpsuits and separates but there really was nothing that stood out except for the jackets.

Lots of checks, rose appliques, tie-dye, colors like blues and reds juxtaposed with white made up Asmita Marwa’s boho resort collection titled, “Maya 0° 36’0”S/73° 6’0”E” which left us with a feeling of, “haven’t we seen this before?”.

Kallol Datta: LFW Summer/Resort 2010

After having been completely smitten by his last collection, we were definitely looking forward to Kallol Datta’s latest showing. And we weren’t disappointed.

It was what I expected… structured and yet anti-fit. Arresting and yet anti-glam. Dark but so fresh. Full of ironies.

I loved the prints that the designer used in this collection, a favorite being the The Suicide series (created in collaboration with artist Indraneil Ram Kamath). Must. Have. Now. Also interesting were the Prison Slate Series and the clothes with the Cat print.

Clever tailoring, impeccable finish and a fresh vision made this collection one of our favorites of the week.

On an aside, his showing was probably the only one with scores of people in the seats in his clothes from last season, clearly a sign he is doing something right?! :)

Abdul Halder: LFW Spring Summer/Resort 2010

After showing a few outfits in summery colors, Abdul Halder returned to his safe zone which was presenting a bridal collection that consisted of ornate lehengas and saris complemented by Kundan jewellery from the M B Group for the women and achkans, suits and sherwanis for the men.

Although the bling wasn’t our thing, something tells us that people who love it (bling) will lap this collection up!

P.S. A special mention about the velvet balloon lehenga: we hope we never spot anyone in it. It was much worse looking in person.

Shrivan Narresh: LFW Spring Summer/Resort 2010

Although this was ShrivanNarresh’s first runway showing ever, pieces from the duo’s (consisting of Shrivan Bhatia and Narresh Kukreja) collection have already been featured in many swimsuit calendars, the Kingfisher 2010 one being the most recent.

Bandeau bikinis, swimsuits and cover-ups in blue, grey, yellow, coral marked this beachwear collection but the pieces that caught our attention the most were the block-piece swimsuits that we would LOVE to see in an editorial. Fingers crossed, we’ll get our wish. Soon.

P.S. Catch the block-pieces in the video below.
