Zoya At Cannes 2013: Bombay Talkies Screening

Zoya along with her fellow directors presented Bombay Talkies at Cannes 2013 on Sunday. The young director who favors western clothes is rarely ever seen in traditional wear, which is why this appearance of hers in a Manish Malhotra sari made for a welcome change.

This is way out of her comfort zone, so I will not point out that a wee bit of kajal perhaps would’ve been nice to see on her. Oh wait, did I just point it? ;)

    • I think its a shadow/fabric catching light differently. Agree on the boob show. Unneccesary.
Also, this is the first time it looks like she put effort into “doing” her hair. She looks lovely. But as P&P pointed out, a bit of kajal would have looked even nicer.

  1. she looks clumsy in her sari…she shud have gone for the look that is her…western formal quirky….why o why does cannes have to be this reaffirmation of all things indian…how insecure are we that we have to keep tom-toming our identity and ethnicity? i love her style and her spunk …didnt think she’d bow to convention!!! very disappointed.

    • I think its because Cannes celebrated 100 yrs of Indian Cinema and she was there because her film that was shown there was also about celebrating the same. So most Indian attendees of this event wore Indian. And i think its appropriate.

      • 100 yrs of cinema not 100 yrs of the sari/Indian wear…y since 1999 that aishwarya made the first appearance at Cannes is traditional wear considered Indian??? i wear trousers with a kurta and that looks Indian? hermes sari gown that looks Indian…burberry’s chanderi trench coat that looks inidan too…can we for once be secure in our identity and not try hard to show the world we are Indians and we dress in this particular manner???? i dont see the french actresses all wearing berets and fishnes…i mean come on!!!! we’ve got to evolve.
