Reception Style

Virat and Anushka arrived at their wedding reception in Delhi on Thursday evening and not surprisingly, both wore Sabyasachi with the groom wearing a black bandhgala with a pashmina shawl and the bride opting for a traditional Benarasi red sari and jewellery from his heritage line.

We wish the newly weds our best!

      • the stuffy blouse and overdose of bling ages Anushka!! plus that bun! maybe a look more suited for the mother of the bride / groom rather than the bride!!

        • when i got married i wanted to go super traditional and did the long sleeve blouse too, it’s nice to not want to show skin on your wedding day when you are surrounded by family! I think she looks great!!!

    • True ! He’s very mush at his wedding reception looking like royalty for a groom.. Anushka is beautiful and happy bride so don’t care for what’s worn.. love her neck piece but doesn’t go with the traditional saree

  2. Love both of them but yes, Anushka could have gotten rid or gone easy on the necklace. Also how amazing is that Anushka wore jutis and not heels. As someone who always wears flats with saris, I applaud her choice :)

  3. With the Italy wedding pics so dreamy, they have set the bar really, like really high. So may be that’s why I don’t go wow on this look. Sure they look the cutest together but the look will leave you feel underwhelmed. Maybe the other reception will bring something as beautiful as the wedding. I know – greedy me *wink*wink*

    • I know exactly what you mean. She looks gorgeous, but I was expecting something else after the wedding photos. I think the Mumbai reception, given its scale and context, will give us that.

Btw Anushka’s picks overall with Sabyasachi have been great of late. Am especially lusting after that green lehenga she wore at the Zaheer-Sagarika reception.

  4. I don’t mind the necklace cause probably it’s from virat’s family…. I think that’s the tradition in most of the family they gift saree and necklace to bride and she wears that during the reception day .

  5. I love that saree – so beautiful and traditional. But that necklace is a bit much, a simpler one would have been infinitely better. He looks fabulous. They make a beautiful couple.

  6. Love …she kept it traditional and I really admire that. Love all the jewels she’s piled on because they are still in that ‘wedding’ mode. Virat looks pretty good too and I’m just glad they didn’t match their outfits.

  7. Oh I love both of them here…N I dont get ppl complaining about jewelry. She’s the bride…she gets to go the whole nine yard..hehehe..I love how she went the traditional route without the “look at the me I am a heroine skin show…”

    • Agreed. I too thought the choker was tad much but when else does she get to wear this offset if not during her own reception? She is the bride!

  8. Aww they look so happy…
Looks like the necklace is one of those things which separates into a choker and a necklace. Either one of those two on their own would have done her more justice

  9. It’s the hair that ruins it for me. I would have loved a big-blow out to balance out the jewelry. Nevertheless, they are a beautiful couple that experiments with fashion, can’t fault them for that. Wishing them the best!

  10. Anushka’s look doesn’t seem to fit with her usual elegant and minimal style; she seems a little ill at ease as well. The saree is gorgeous but the hair and the jewellery needed to be different to be impactful. However, they look really happy together and eventually, that matters more than what she wore. Their wedding was so stunning and this is just nitpicking.

  11. That saree looks EXQUISITE! Wish she would’ve put her hair straight down, it would’ve been stunning. Nevertheless, it’s lovely to see her fully embracing tradition in this moment since she’s always dressed in a manner that has favoured more chic, western stuff. Best wishes to the couple!

overall looks too blngy to me, and virat shudve skipped the “yeh haath mujhe de de thakur” sholay shawl.

  13. Can we leave Anushka alone please, its her wedding! I think she looks outstanding, kudos for keeping it classic. Of course I may be biased having donned a very similar look at my wedding reception two years ago :)

  14. This sari looks a lot like the one deepika wore for hema malini’s book launch. A little too ‘light’ for a bride but on the other hand it’s anoushka who makes her own rules. Definitely everyone’s expectations are sky high aft the wedding, so it’s kinda underwhelming. P.S. Virat is one of the best styled grooms I have ever come across.

  15. It’s good to see Anushka and Virat in traditional attire even for reception… Classy duo!! The necklace seems familiar to the one she wore for wedding (heavy, Choker style) so a longer one wud have been a nice touch …Bt she does look Lovely. Happiness is the best adornment!

  16. Anushka looks beautiful in the saree however, if this saree did not have those motifs all over the body at least not THAT many, I think it would have looked a lot better! Either that or cut down on the jewelry to make the whole look balanced.

I would have perhaps not put those gold motifs on the chest part and kept it plain and simple on that part.
The Middle partition of the hair that is pulled tight with a tiny bindi has now become a Signature Sabyasachi Look. I love it.
Looks like Sabyasachi is really trying to push his Jewelry line sales to go up so he’s been advertising it through the celebrities like Anushka and Sridevi and through his Instagram lookbooks.

I remember Sabya had an association with Kishandas jewelry before and his own brand of jewelry line many items are very similar to the Kishandas’ jewelries. Sometimes I wonder how Kishandas feels about it. I hope they parted in good terms and I hope Kishandas is not upset with Sabya. This is just an observation.

In terms of Jewerlry choice I absolutely love Mrs. Nita Ambani’s jewelry collection and I hope there a Coffee table book based on her jewel collection will be released someday. I also love Rekha’s jewelry collection. Then I love Sonam and her aunt Sri’s collections. I do wonder if Sridevi’s heavy jewelries that she wears are her own or on loan. I’ve heard that celebrities are loaned such jewelries by designers just to get some publicity. Anyways, enough on jewels! Now let’s get back to Virushka i.e Virat and Anushka or are you guys kind of tired? :) Let’s see what they wear in the Mumbai Reception.

  17. I didn’t like Virat’s shawl. Anushka’s look seems like it’s put together in the last minute. But they do make a stunning couple nevertheless.

  18. Such a happy couple! It’s nice to see an actress going traditional and choosing sarees for her engagement and reception. Brides usually go for gowns /indo western for their wedding festivities these days and sarees have almos become inexistent

      • Yes its a saree weaved by the weavers at Peelikothi. Its a place in Varanasi with famous textile shops and weavers. So glad that Sabyasachi mentioned this on his social media. It will actually bring a lot of attention. The saree pattern is a common one but it has real gold zari which means it would be very expensive.

  19. Love the couple! But Anushka’s saree looked ordinary. Thought we would get to see something different. Virat’s shawl was not needed( just my opinion) no offence to the ones who liked their attires. God bless the lovely couple. Loved how she danced?

  20. Saree might be common but it is upto the the person to make it work. Even if you keep her celebrity status aside, Anushka looks ethereal. With that height n flawless skin, she can look good in almost anything! I always feel rich silk sarees can look overwhelming on some. One needs to have a good height to carry them with grace n ease. As the saying goes, people should wear the clothes n not the other way round!
