Sari Style

Vidya was photographed exiting ‘Koffee With Karan‘ sets in a black and gold sari. She finished out her look with a whole lot of Suhani Pittie jewelry that included earrings, a necklace and multiple cuffs.

Try as we might, just can’t seem to bring ourselves to give this look a pass. It was all a little too crowded! Perhaps sleeker hair and a shorter/different necklace would’ve helped… Or hair as is and different jewelry. As it stands though, the look has us go ‘Not Quite’!

  1. Are you guys kidding. She looks gorgeous. The black gives a slimming effect. The long necklace elongates the whole look. The best par of this look is even I can afford a saree like this. It probably is “claimed” as a designer piece but I can buy one from a regular (saree) store.

    • Wearing a black balloon clumsily does not make you look slim. The long necklace is tacky and distasteful. Being able to afford a saree does not solely make it desirable. The gold earrings clash with the gold necklace, the gold necklace clashes with the gold border, the infinitely long sleeves crash into the bangles, and the lose messy hair too is competing for attention. This is a heavy traffic look with too many collisions making the whole appearance an accident site. And all this for a chilled out coffee and conversation show :(

  3. This one gets a ‘nay’ from me. Not a fan of the saree or the blouse. Long sleeves with border and the cuffs… Just too busy and there’s probably one cuff that’s stuck under that sleeve border. That necklace looks like one of those tricks I use to cover my tummy from showing though the saree ;)

  4. i think her hair tied up would have made a difference…on a different not plz remove Bipasha Basu’s site advertisement. It’s really annoying.

  5. Vidya needs to adopt a different kind of blouse, something more brief and not so wide at the neck. Her’s are never quite right. And she needs to rethink the kind of saris she wears because often they are bunched up around her waist due to the fabric. And that sari needs a smaller border for someone like Vidya. These are simple things to follow if you are wearing a sari, not rocket science. As it stands of late she seems like a pretty woman who loves wearing saris but knows f all about how it all comes together or even has an intuitive understanding of the garment.

And statement necklaces require a different kind of outfit. This one is completely wrong with a sari and especially this particular sari.

  6. I agree with a previous poster; she looks beautiful. She lends credibility to the view that you can be a healthy weight and look stunning. If at all I’d have to make a change, I’d get rid of the necklace and the bracelets, or shorten her sleeve-length.

  7. I want to like it, I really do, but something is off. The blouse sleeve, or the hair, I don’t know. This, right now, is giving off a very Rekha vibe, which I don’t like at all.
If Mini Mathur were given the same set of elements, I’m sure she’d knock it out of the park!! It would be interesting to see!

  8. A sari without border would have elongated her silhouette. That pendulum thing totally pulls the focus away from her beautiful face and highlights the inadequacies of such a misproportioned blouse.

  9. P&P, I think she looks nice and sexy. She always wears stuff which I think we can pull off, being normal size. She looks elegant. I would only go without those bangles and extra hanging thing on the necklace. Otherwise a thums-up for this one!

  10. Had never thought suhani pittie jewellery can ever look bad….but vidya has done it. She killed the entire look with that hair and OTT accessories. Vidya please take help and stop wearing these aunty ji blouses.

    • Lol. Agreed. She made Sabya clothes look meh. Now Suhai pittie jewelry. She is wearing one too many and still nothing looks even remotely good on her.

  11. Vidya aunty can never get it right, like ever. Tch Tch. That hair is downright ew and for a lady who wears sari all the damn time, she can’t even wear it proper. So much jewelry and not one is like a pretty piece.

  12. ” normal size” hmmmm….so all those who are not Vidya’s size i.e. smaller or bigger, are ” abnormal”??? And who decided that ….all those who are exactly that size…hilarious!!!!

      • Actually no. The support she gets is for all sorts of reasons and not her size. She is one of the best actresses around after all. And for the record her size is not humungous. Its fairly average which is probably what the poster meant by normal.

I don’t get the size wars either. A girl looks good and well turned out. Or not. Period. That’s all one needs to comment on. Has nothing to do with her size which doesn’t need to be mentioned at all. There is no need to be petty or sarcastic about size.

  13. Too Rekha-ish…sometime I feel Vidya’s style is influenced by Rekha. Vidya has an amazing sensuality and a beautiful face. I wish she would dress a little more classy. Simple cuts, different hair dos to bring out her gorgeous face. This outfit is too overwhelming – evrything, saree, jewellery, hair…not working. Disappointed.

  14. PnP you may not publish this. But you really do have to take care the site is not overrun by publicists or people interested in targeting particular celebs. It spoils it for the rest of us who are outsiders and read for leisure.

  15. I actually like the sari, but the long-sleeved blouse doesn’t work with it because it’s just too much black. Hair in a bun would be nice too, since it’s a simple sari (in terms of design). I hate the necklace.

  16. The color is just wrong. You can get some beautiful vibrant colored sarees and it’s just wrong to being a little black dress vibe to a saree which is being attempted here. Not working.
