Sari Style
We’ve seen Vidya do the woven sari and a big statement ring look before but this one is so much better. It’s a simple look and she looks just so lovely.

who draped her sari? the same person who did deepika padukone’s sari at cannes?
agree, look at the pleating and the pallu, awful. She looks broad and wide and older than she is, the saree is aging her, her face is beautiful, but comeon.
Too much of a good thing can also be bad. She just reached there.
Okay,,bracing myself for a barrage of ‘aunty’ comments! I think a lot of people here read Vidya Balan and sari in one sentence and their brain goes on auto-pilot and their fingers start typing ‘aunty’.
so agree with u on this….some people r jus plain negative…have nothin to do with individual sense of style or naything….jus plain negative and alwaz critical
Wearing Sabya on every ocassion alone does not speak of onesn individual style or fashion sense. Look at the draping. It’s awful every.single.time. It’s got nothing to do with negativity. VidyaB has been in a rut and and peeps are pointing that out.
Very badly draped.. not worth a post
She looks much better here than her previous appearances, and its largely due to the fact that she’s taken the pains to do her hair! What a world of a difference it makes!!
OK I totally am the kind who would wear this sari. I love it. But I have mixed feelings about The Balan wearing it. Why I don’t know….it seems a dated look (i.e. the ethnic look) which hasn’t yet got properly updated except for the bog standard Sabyasachi fare. So hmm…until The Balan evolves it into her own personal signature style that can rock a handloom sari instead of looking like she strayed in from a Festival of India event in the 80s, I think it will keep eliciting mehs and cries of Aunty and Maami.
PS: Surely she can do better with the blouses. You get so many artful cuts these days which look modern, modest and different. It’s probably the best way to make a standard sari stand out.
Yeah she looks nice but it’s getting kinda boring now. She needs to find another look that works for her.
vidya ma’am looks like a school teacher.
dont like the blouse and the way it fits (not) her, makes her look like my grandma, atleast her arm, why cant this woman try to look younger and leave such sarees for Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and such like.
I agree this look seriously ages her. She looks matronly and un-moviestar-ish, which would be PERFECTLY okay if she changed it up and wore something more glamorous and contemporary once in a while. But she doesn’t, so it isn’t.
Very true. From aunty now she’s moved on to a grandma look.
Am loving it…………..
personally love the blouse. This is absolutely something that I will wear. Lover her ring as ell.
It’s a lovely saree. Wish the pallu was taken properly.
can someone tell me which type of embroidery is done on pallu.
one word “Behenji”
Outfit best for 50+ types
n how do u define that word miss butterfly…..
how how how is it a good look? such sloppy draping…
She has a beautiful face…..very very beautiful….
but yes the blouse needs to be ditched now….shorter sleeves will look much better…..
Girlfriend needs to dress her age and look a bit more exciting!! Come on Vidya—mix it up!
sorry to say this but she look aged and dowdy..she dresses an aunty going to the fair…please start dressing your age..there are elegant saris for your age vidya…
if she dresses/looks like this now.. what will she wear when she’s 50!? THEN she’ll go to manish.. shudderrrr
Dont like the blouse sleeves, makes her look fat. Could have used some heels and a better hair style.
Think vidya should start dressing her age!! If this is what she wears now, what will she wear at 40??!!
She could pass of for a mum of 2! She looks SOO much older than she actually is!
im liking this luk, loving the statement ring!!!…the hairdo, if it had been top half pulled behind, would have luked much better on her face
I simply love this…simple and elegant…
behenji turned aunty.
hahahahhaha…..
i never thought i’d say “start dressing your age” to ask someone to look younger! its usually applicable to tweens like Pchops, Katrina and Queenie who cant deal with looking their age anymore! looks like Vidya has the same syndrome, it’s just moving in the opposite direction!
It’s a lovely saree blouse combo & Vidya looks simple yet radiant. But correct me if I am wrong….isn’t Vidya in her early 30’s. This look is so 50-60 year-old-appropriate.
The golden design at the end of her pallu is identical to the one on one of Aishwarya’s Sabya anarkalis (see ‘Rann’ premiere). As far as I can see, Sabya simply patchworks scraps of traditional Indian fabrics together. Can someone please tell me why he is hailed as a great designer as opposed to being called what he really is: a tailor?
:) I agree
i agree too
Prem Rogue….
If that is so simple…can u pls put together some patchworks and make some outfit …take a photo and mail to P&P…..let us see…
Sabya understands the pulse of Indian tradition, culture, our textile…and he is sincerely promoting them rather than what most of the top Indian designers do…they even trying to copy HIM …but failed…
this space isnt enough to explain more abt his creations….
She needs to wear something besides sarees..its becoming toooo boring and monotonous.
Her face looks radiant. But totally agree with the ‘the look is ageing’ her comments.Methinks the culprits are the 3/4 th length blouse and the badly draped cotton saree.
Sometimes you just get obsessed with one thing. And there’s something about cotton that even appeals to me a lot.I convince myself that I wont indulge into it but again I do it..but I don’t do it so monotonously. If Vidya likes sarees prolly she should do it with liitle more effort.I mean one day she can do it like Kiran kher does her silks with chunky jwellery..the other day may be experimenting with her hair n the next may be wearing nice blouse else she would really drown in this sarees which are preety but getting boring due to repeating in the same manner and with poor draping.
why limit yourself to one style.. we get it that its comfortable and you look pretty but being an actor atleast be versatile in some way.
The problem with Vidya is that she gets stuck in a rut easily. First it was the unending saga of anarkalis and now it’s Sabya saris. There is not much wrong with this look (I rather like it) but i do wish she’d change it up more often. i love anarkalis and cotton/handloom saris but no point ODing on them to the point where I become predictable. She is a beautiful woman and a good actress and it is easy to always wear the same look but being a movie star, she ought to be able to spring surprises.
She looks lovely, but as soon as I saw her I felt she was going to give me a pop-quiz in class. As much as I am for her wearing nice handloom sarees, she can atleast change the style of the blouse often. Better draping would help too.
She looks stout, short and nani-like.Except for her gorgeous face nothing is working. She needs to ditch those blouses NOW.
On the other hand, how many people here are actually designers/chotta-motta showstoppers who, under fabulous nicknames take a dig at other designers/celebs? Just Curious ;)……….
Hi there April I think readers are u know hideous trolls lolling around in our pyjamas but that doesn’t mean we can’t hold an opinion on fashion – which in fact may be honest and unpretentious given we don’t care and walk out in fluffy slippers and bad clothes! Makes a more fabulous read than designers/chotta-motta showstoppers throwing air kisses and “fabulous” all around I think!
bravo!
what a saree!
Thank you (does a bow)!
i like the other dress on her with curly hair…it looks simple yet so elegant..
I want to see the pallu….
P&P can you pl tell me which type of embroidery is done on pallu.
no answer, i hardly asks any question and u always ignore that :-(
Oops. Well since we can’t see the pallu very well, can’t quite answer.
thanks :-)
