Sari Style
‘Rowena’ sent us these pictures of UK Home secretary Theresa May wearing a blue sari at the Asian Women of Achievement Awards.
Says Rowena, “I often think that when non-desi women choose to wear a sari they often do it badly, (yes, Liz Hurley, I’m talking about you) or choose incredibly garish colours that don’t flatter their skin tone. (Most of the women at the Obama’s reception for the Indian President), but I reckon Theresa May has achieved a look that flatters her and the sari!”
We agree with Rowena that Ms. May looks good and the color flatters her but the jewelled details on it are a bit much for us.
Thanks ‘Rowena’ for sending it in.

Awwwwww she’s cute!
Not her outfit, really, but her. For some reason.
Shes draped it well and the colour really flatters her…
Well done! Jewelled OD notwithstanding…common P& P, let it be once in a while..:P)
i agree..let it be P&P
The color is pleasant and blends her skin tone perfectly. Theresa looks elegant & sophisticated in the saree.
agree with ‘Rowenta’. Ms.May has taken the trouble to drape it well (or get it draped by someone else, whatever). The sari itself is nothing great but it is not too bad, either. In all, I like.
Totally agree! Finally a non asian women who has woren a decent saree well!!! :)
Personally I like the top border, wish it was on the whole saree replacing the bottom border.
It’s not just non-desi women, a humungous lot of desi women get it wrong too. You might want to stop picking on Liz Hurley. Does no one remember the pink Tarun Tahiliani? THAT’s the image that springs to my mind when someone says Liz Hurley, True, her appearance in black/grey was out there, but I still say no one on this blog has done a sari better than Liz Hurley’s pink.
The saree and all is fine. But her pose in the second picture is weird. She either wants to show her shoes off clearly or badly needs to pee.
She looks nice and i like her saree and design.
I dont think the jewelled design is too much.
just nitpicking: Obama’s reception was for the Indian PM, not the prez.
she fares so much better.
ya, the second pic is awkward.. just sayin…
I love & respect the lady for wearing a Saree, she looks cute, she may be a bit awkward in it, it is but natural for someone who is not used to it be it a desi or a non desi…
aww.. it’s cute. She’s even showing off the matching shoes.
I like how she’s accessorized it with simple jewelry.
