  1. Is this the beginning of a new chapter in VB’s book? I am willing to overlook the bad hair and lack of styling, if that’s the case. More of these, Vidya. Say goodbye to the saris.

    • +1 for bad hair and styling issues….atleast she decided to ditch those “in character” and sabya looks :P (hope so)

p.s. whats with that pose in third pic? :\

    • Sigh. Not again

Vidya Balan is oh I think 35
If she is an Aunty to you – are you 5? 10 maybe?
Beta – time for some homework. This is a site for grownups

      • Great response, Megha! Vidya can do no wrong in my books-her acting talent and professional choices put her far above the rest to me.

        • As far as I can see certain commenters only visit HHC to stalk Vidya and make aunty comments….Give it a rest or do it subtly, otherwise ahem it looks like vested interests.

On topic, this doesn’t convince me that Vidya – like many good actresses even over at go fug – is more than an average dresser.

      • Megha – +10000 what you said! That was an awesome put down!
Vidya is an amazing actress and has never claimed to be a fashion icon. She dresses as she sees fit – the Aunty tag is stupid and disrespectful.

        • In that case, Why feature Vidya on this fashion site? She is below average as a dresser and above average as an actress, but this is not an acting prowess review site.

Auntie means soneone who is not a sharp/cool dresser, someone who is dowdy and Vidya is dowdy.. period.. she has alevely face and decent talent but on teh fashion front-I rate her 3 out of 10

          • when you address some one as aunty…this is what u have at the back of ur mind?? really? sad, aunty is percieved with these definations

            Reply
          • I just don’t get this? Are we not supposed to critique the way she dresses ? She does look like an Aunty (dowdy looking) which is quite the tragedy because she is a nice looking girl. She is just absolutely clueless when it comes to dressing up.

This blog is a platform for us to voice our aunty-type comments regarding the styles of actors and actresses. This is not a talent review blog.
Vidya is on the bottom rung when it comes to style right there with the Go Fug bottom rung actors/actresses. Yeeeeshh this whole khumbaya attitude to mediocrity is becoming ridiculous!

        • What’s with all this nonsense about how she should be given a free pass since she is a good actress? Sounds so immature and idiotic. Given this IS a fashion blog not who is good in acting blog. Think you are visiting a wrong site then.

        • This is awesome esp, considering this is a site of fashion, i am glad vidya received the support she did over here.

it is ok to comment on clothes but words like aunty has no place here

        • @divya..i so agree with you…the whole point of these pictures and this blog is about the style and looks of celebrities…..but people here seem to mix talent with looks and styling….we are here to comment about the looks of people not about how talented……”acting talent and professional choices put her far above the rest” these remarks are not fit here…..these should be there on critic review sites or posts….but people making hue and cry for “aunty” and not so good fashion sense comments….

      • i Don’t understand why people have started getting sentimental on words like aunty, bai, or any other profession. The very fact they get offended sometimes shows that they themselves think lowly of the word aunty or something else. No one is putting anyone down.. I’m in my late 20s and am called aunty by a lot of kids now… so nothing wrong with that!
As for Vidya, this is a refreshing change.. but to be politically ccorrect ” she does dress far older than her age”.. which again does not mean any one wearing sarees is wrong… simply she could select sarees which could make her look more her age.

        • I agree. Why the touchy touchy reaction ? I am 36 and am an Aunty but I dress for my age and body type . I dont dress younger than my age but I don’t dress like that either!! My mum wears shoes like those and that weird dress shirt thing – flimsy material but could have been salvaged if not contrasted with tan!!
. Its such a Shame as nowadays there r so many styles , cuts and fabrics available for every age and shape .
I think sonakshi and Huma qureshi r revelations on how to dress smart for a figure that bwood isn’t used to . Vidya has slimmed down but until she refuses to wear stuff that doesn’t suit her and ages her , she will be terribly boring .

        • Its not the word itself, its that it is always used as a put down or to deride someone’s fashion sense. Its perfectly acceptable to say that Vidya’s look is meh without adding auntyji, behenji, bai etc. At best this is childish as Megha says.

Aunties and Bais are capable of looking fab. More people need to recognise it.

        • I am in no way offended by the word – If I’m called Aunty as a 30 year old by little kids
HOWEVER when used on this site it is always as a put down and a derogatory term. Do you think the person here was being respectful in using that word?

As for the usage of the word bai that is even worse
It too is used when someone on the site is wearing what the commenter deems as a cheap sari
Isn’t that derogatory to the women who work so hard in people’s houses and while they may not dress as you would, make the best of their resources

So no the words themselves are not offensive
          Their usage is

          • I was going to type the same thing Megha. It’s the derogatory way these words are used, that is the problem.

If I say I am amazed at how gracefully my bai manages to work in her saree, then there is nothing wrong with the word.

            Reply
          • Megha are you the slang police? Of course Auntyji is not derogatory. It isn’t the same as the N word or coolie. Sure the intent behind the word is not praise but condescension. But that is all!!!!

      • Oh pls, give it a break, Aunty ji! When people can be called trashy and what not on this site, i don’t think Aunty is insulting as such. I am not 5. I am >20 and yes i DO have aunts who are in theirs 30’s. And hell yes they all dress up well and don’t actually give this drab vibe much much better. :P

    • Adara, lol slightly better is actually high praise for someone looks shabby all the time. Even “aunties” dress up far better now. Dont insult aunties by comparing it to her. :)

  2. She looks great without make-up. Great skin. I think she looks fine. Granted she does not have a size 0 body, the dress is appropriate, comfortable, and, the belt, shoes and bag match! I for one am looking forward to seeing Vidya in a Sabya.

  3. she isn’t an aunty. she gives normal people hope. she has presence and a luminosity that can’t be denied. and for someone like her it isn’t only about what she wears. and coming to this outfit it does look good with room for improvement. can’t wait to see if more surprises are in store.

  4. Wow….speechless, like you said for the refreshing change, she looks lovely and I kinda liked the unkempt casual hair.

My only shudder is that we’re going to see these in every color for the next few months…

  5. It really is an OMG!! Wow is all I can say.. As so done said earlier…she gives hope to normal women… :) it’s good to see women like Kajol, Vidya do the western look as good as their Saree look…

  6. She looks nice! And comfortable! Sh’e at an airport people, come on! Make up and coiffed hair for a flight a requirement? Even if she is a celeb, I sure hope not :|

    • She was actually styled by someone????
This looks like something she just threw on from her closet!
I love Vidya as an actress but really her stylist needs a refresher course.

      Reply
      • everything an actress wears doesnt need to look ‘styled’. the idea is someone takes the load of choosing what to wear off their overworked brain. so its fine if a seemingly casual outfit was ‘styled’ by someone… :)

        Reply
        • In that case lets refrain from the term “styled by…” cz her neighbor/aunt cud’ve styled her better!
And it’s not the fact that it’s a casual outfit. The fact is that it is a poor choice of dress n accessories to hv bn put together!

      • :o OMG this really look as “open ur closet and pick up one dress and get ready in minimum time” nothng look styled here…

  7. I don’t like the shoes – I think that shape toe, especially with that kind of heel, always looks weird and unflattering and I hope she ditches them – but the bag is nice. I like that she’s leaving her comfort zone. And it’s a flight! She looks better than my sweatpanted, backpacked self boarding the plane I must say.

  8. ummm….this outfit reminds me of her wardrobe during her ‘Kismat Konnection” (sp?) days. Am I the only one to feel like that?!

  9. Color suits her. Everything else–hair, makeup, ill fitting dress, bulky bag, huge tote worn on the forearm, mannish belt, hideous shoes is a miss. She’s better off with her saris.

  10. It’s a tragedy how she goes from looking incredible in that magazine photos you guys put up to terrible at Cannes, in this badly fitted dress at the airport to that gorgeous look in a non-sabya sari and light jewellery. This look is too matchy matchy. The stylist clearly doesn’t understand how to put up a chic look together !

  11. I think she looks good. No doubt that she looks tired and worse for wear, but she has ventured out of her comfort zone. I like the colour of the dress, but am on the fence over the shoes.

  12. yep my jaw dropped too, twice at that! once at the atrociousness of the outfit and second time when i read what PnP had written about it! u guys r killing it *being super sarcastic atm*!
