Spotted Ridhima Kapoor sitting Front Row at Vikram Phadnis’ show during WLIFW. Keeping with the trend, she was dressed in a floral outfit (big for Spring) and was seen carrying a classic Bottega Veneta bag.

The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2008 opened with Vikram Phadnis’ collection. Blues, olives, peaches and pastels made up the color palette and ‘metallic’ continued to make its presence felt even into Fall.
The skirts and dresses were ruched and the volume came from tule! You couldn’t miss the opaque tights, a Fall staple as far as I am concerned and there was a lot of layering! Embellished garments go from Spring to Fall and like metallics, seem to be a trend thats going to stick for a while!
There were a lot of Grecian influences on the runways this season (in Spring/Summer 2008 collections) and the ‘Toga’ was most apparant. Why, the fashion doyenne herself, Priya Tanna, editor of Vogue India, was seen flaunting the silhouette in a Tarun Tahiliani created ensemble, few months ago at the Vogue India launch. (picture, above)
A Toga is essentially a loose flowing outer garment, which in the ancient times, was worn by Romans, usually, made of a single piece of cloth that covered the entire body leaving the right arm bare. And, most designers in their collections re-interpreted this flowing silhouette which really is a very flattering drape.
Here’s just a quick peek at different designers’, different takes…

This is what I have been saying all along, give me a fresher perspective, give me a new twist, give me something that makes me sit back and go, yes, thats it! Vikram Phadnis does all that and then some! Color palette was brilliant, earthy browns and beiges, matt gold, deep burgundy, shimmery-gold-yellow and a metallic dust there, a shimmer here! He not only played with colors but also with textures! If there was a flowy dress, there was a quilted bolero jacket on top of it! And how fabulous is that yellow/gold dress? I loved the wide belts and structured embellished jackets!
And pay attention to the way the models were styled. Make-up was minimal, bare and fresh! Lips were light and eyes were not laden down! A trend am seeing in most shows!
Uber sexy. Uber glamorous! Loved the collection!
