Diwali Ready?

The choicest Indian clothes are out and about and the festive season is resplendent with beautiful traditional clothes, one better than the other! But if you don’t know what you should be buying, read on!

A must-have this season: Churidaar sleeves. Most designers are doing them in diaphanous chiffons giving it that translucent, delicate feel! I love it! If what worries you is the fact that you might not like these sleeves for too long, then worry not. They are going to be around for a while! However, if the romance does fizzle out for you, all you have to do is take them in to your trusted tailor and have the sleeves cut off to turn it into a sleeveless Kameez or have shorter sleeves attached!

The next big trend this season is the Anarkali style Salwar-Kameez! It looks great and fits wonderfully on all body-types (very flattering for those downward problem areas) and you can’t resist a twirl in it!

We know Rani is a die-hard fan of Sabyasachi, but to wear the same style twice in a row does not sit well! The man has created so many different silhouettes that are so gorgeous that for her to stick to wearing the same thing again is such a bummer!

LIFW: Sabyasachi

There is a good reason why Sabyasachi is called the Hermes of India by those in the fashion-know and this collection is just another affirmation of what we already believe: he has the makings of a great couturier, and well under way!

The colors were so rich, grounded, yet so luxe and vibrant! The color palette exploded with every hue and tone but never overwhelmed. The textures were stunning, there was velvet, brocade, chiffon, chenille, khadi and even cotton! Lovely!

I loved that he mentioned at the Press Conn, the fact that its time designers worked on consolidating and paying attention to the market in India because it is the Indian consumers that made designers like him and Tarun Tahiliani into super brands!

This collection was inspired by the India-Pakistan partition and by movies like Sardari Begum, 1947 Earth and, the colors by Mircha Masala. He had quwalis for soundtrack, calling it ethnic trance. You got to love that! The collection went back to the roots of Indian ethnic couture.

I can’t think of a single minus on this collection. This is the kind of piece a woman owns and passes on as an heirloom! It was masterfully crafted and skillfully executed and takes a man of certain skill and genius to do what he does every single time with Indian couture!

P.S: Rani was spotted at the show wearing an ensemble designed by Sabyasachi!

NY Fashion Week: Sabyasachi

So you all know that while Fashion Week is on in India, there’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week happening in New York, right at the same time. And today Sabyasachi was showing! Oh, I was so excited, thats one designer I was absolutely looking forward to seeing, so imagine my surprise when I acually saw the collection!

I am devastated. It felt as if all that is trademark Sabyasachi was missing and that might have been a good thing if he was trying to move away from the cliché but instead, it just felt lacking! I know am being harsh, but from a designer with his calibre, expectations always tend to run impossibly high.

Not all was bad though. Some pieces were exceptional.

But all in all, was left wondering, is this it? This can’t be it! Is it?
