In Payal Jain

While at an event for UNICEF, Priyanka was photographed in a Payal Jain suit. Wavy hair, a small bindi and silver jootis finished out her look. She looked lovely!

WLIFW A/W 2011: Day Two

Kavita Bhartia, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

The vibe was certainly bohemian over at Kavita Bhartia. Season’s favorite color, burnt orange popped up on this runway as well among the more muted colors. Though not a fan of the prints, loved the embellished dresses.

Payal Jain, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

Payal Jain referenced the five elements of nature (earth, water, fire, air and space) in her collection. Orange for fire, green for earth, blue for water… You get the drift!

am:pm By Ankur And Priyanka Modi, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

Heavy in separates, the collection was among the better ones presented today. Pretty dresses and use of florals stood out… The orange dress and the super wide-legged trousers (palazzos!) were a favorite.

Ashima Leena, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

Heavy in western-wear silhouettes, ombré effect, bandhani techniques and beaded embellishments made for some interesting pieces. Tribal influenced, the necklines were well-utilized. Some pieces did feel more Resort than Autumn, though the point perhaps is moot.

Charu Parasher, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

Pink, orange and green broken up with some black was this collection’s color palette. We weren’t really taken with the use of tulle nor with the way the florals were employed.

Komal Sood, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

For her debut collection, Komal Sood presented evening-wear heavy collection. A dash of Archana Kochchar, a smidgen of Swapnil Shinde and a teeny helping of inspiration from international runways… Is it just us, or do you too feel like you’ve seen all this before?

Dolly J, WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2011

A visual overload, and not really in the best way either. There’s so much going on and, none of it really feels cohesive…

And finally, on to Rajesh Pratap Singh.

This certainly was our favorite from day two. Hands-down. Beautifully structured clothes, impeccable work and so-sophisticated-and-quietly-charming. Love. Can’t wait to see these off-the-runway!

WLIFW: Payal Jain

Payal Jain’s collection was called ‘Black Earth’ and had a color palette that seemed to have taken its cue from nature itself, lots of earthy browns, rusty red-browns, winter white and stone greys.

Capes featured predominantly in the collection as did jackets, wide necklines and houndstooth. Embellishment and embroidery were used to accent the pieces.

Day 1: Payal Jain

For me, this show of Payal Jain’s was very bleh. The models were styled the same old boring way and while I can appreciate the craftsmanship that might have gone behind the clothes, thats where it ends for me. There was just a bit too much smocking and embroidery going on! The dresses at times were gathered and billowing, smocked and embroidered all at one time to a not so great end result! The show did have a feminine, whimsical vibe, even victorian at times.. I guess thats her way of interpretting, ‘ultra-feminine’, I don’t know!

But am not totally dismissing the show, the collection had its high points..some individual pieces were fabulous like those ‘achkan’ inspired tops!
