Day 1: Rina Dhaka

I expected to be wowed by Rina Dhaka’s collection. It fell short by a bit! I enjoyed it, was pleasant, light, summery, fun and fresh! But found it quite lacking in imagination and newer perspective! Having said that, let me give you a blow by blow, of all that worked!

Colors were great, again those whites and sober metallics, blues, greens and pinks and sheer prints once again made an appearance! Prints, now thats a trend thats going to be big in Spring/Summer 2008, I predict!

I adored those long skirts and dresses in georgettes and chiffons..they had such a feminine, soft and flirty vibe without going overboard! And those short day dresses in blues, pinks and peachy/oranges? They screamed ‘young’ and ‘summer’! Also, I especially liked the long embellished sheer tunics teemed with capris!

But here’s the thing, there was not much to dislike in the collection because it was so safe. And then again, there wasn’t much to ‘wow’, because it was so safe!

Day 1: Shantanu And Nikhil

It doesn’t happen that often but when it does, it happens with a blow! Am in love. Every outfit, every accessory, every ribbon, every detailing! Shantanu and Nikhil’s collection was absolutely on the money! Their collection was called, ‘Banaras Boulevard’ but for me it just seemed like an updated version of Retro French Riviera! Buttery yellows, warm yellows, sunny yellows and pale yellows dominated the collection, now and then, offset by white perhaps!

The dresses were très chic and fabulous! For the champagne-brunching set, this collection will soon find its way into their wardrobes in a heartbeat! And those tops.. brilliant. Never overboard, just enough craftsmanship to make it stand out and just enough understated detailing to give it, its chic-appeal! And that puffed, bubble hem dress with the jacket? Priceless.

Loved the way the models were styled; make-up, hair, shoes, white-rimmed shades and oversized bags were spot on!

I tried really hard to find one thing to dislike. But couldn’t. The collection was young, chic, tasteful, fresh and perfect!

Fashion Bliss.

Day 1: Manoviraj Khosla

Two words sum up Manoviraj’s collection- Neon, Fun. Oh, so fun!

I never know what to expect from a menswear collection, much less review it! But this collection just made it so easy! It was every metrosexual man’s dream come true. Greens, pinks, reds, peaches, yellows, hints of neon, were what made up the color palette of this collection. There were structured jackets in print and color, there were capris and cropped pants accented, again, with color! And then there were these shirts with prints and appliqués..

Ok, so some pieces were outlandish, but they were statement making creative pieces that every designer does for his collection.

Some of those shirts and jackets were very good and I totally see hip, confident men making a beeline for them!

Day 1: Anjana Bhargav

There were no happy mediums in Anjana Bhargav’s show, either you really hated a piece or you really loved it. Her collection was titled, ‘Revival’ and the first thing that immediately pops out at you is its organic, earthy vibe! There was again that ‘white’ which seems to be really a dominant hue in all collections so far, but there were also golds, powdery blues, pinks, greens, beiges…all pastel shades dusted with subtle metallic.

I loved a couple of those gold dresses. Beautiful shapes, and the subtlity of the metallic gold brings it out even more. Its one of those shades that works spectacularly with all skin colors! Its hard to find something to dislike about the Saris sequence too, they were all crafted exquisitely..

The long tunics and pants (salwar-kameezes?) were quite uninspired. Especially the ones in white. While they were simple, very wearable, they were also quite done and tired. There was really nothing fresh about the idea! The long dresses just didn’t work. Neither did the long jackets over the dresses.. And those baskets?

Like I said.. what was good, was very good. There were no happy mediums.

Day 1: Payal Jain

For me, this show of Payal Jain’s was very bleh. The models were styled the same old boring way and while I can appreciate the craftsmanship that might have gone behind the clothes, thats where it ends for me. There was just a bit too much smocking and embroidery going on! The dresses at times were gathered and billowing, smocked and embroidered all at one time to a not so great end result! The show did have a feminine, whimsical vibe, even victorian at times.. I guess thats her way of interpretting, ‘ultra-feminine’, I don’t know!

But am not totally dismissing the show, the collection had its high points..some individual pieces were fabulous like those ‘achkan’ inspired tops!
