Seeing Double?

These two Jaya Mishra designs shown at the recently concluded Kolkata Fashion Week seemed to have borrowed heavily from past Chanel/Balmain/Alexander Wang collections.

Do you see what we see?

Once Bitten, Twice Shy?

Not so when the person in question is designer Nalandda Bhandari.

We thought that us catching her ripp off the Marchesa design would have stopped Nalannda from doing it again, but Alice from Style Asylum breaks any illusions that we may have had of Ms. Bhandari turning a new leaf!

Rick Roy: Designer Or Darzi?

Does Rick Roy know the difference between a designer and a darzi. A designer creates original pieces, a darzi merely copies a designer’s pieces and can throw in some changes.

Looking at his work, what do you think should be Rick Roy’s correct title?

“Designer” or “Darzi”?

Rick Roy: A Little Too Inspired

We couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw Nalanda’s design that looked exactly like the one from Marchesa. Now, we see a design by Rick Roy for Kangana Ranaut that looks so similar to a design from Valentino’s Spring 2008 collection!

If I were to be in Kangana’s shoes, maybe I would drop someone who was so inspired by other’s designs. ;)

Am I Seeing Double?

Nalandda Bhandari Spring Summer 2008

Marchesa Spring Summer 2008

While the Marchesa and the Nalandda Bhandari are absolutely identical, right from the opening at the neckline, the sleeves, the work on the hemline etc, look how similar the Dior and Surily Goel are. Barring the belt on Surily gown, the straps, the detail at the bust, the puffed hemline/ ruching are quite similar…

Spotted one that is identical. Spotted one that is similar. Its quite hard to miss!

Plagiarism, copyright infringement and downright copying have been plaguing the fashion industry for a while now, perhaps because it is so hard to define the rightful intellectual property and there is such a thin line between plagiarism and “inspiration”! There have been way too many incidents, all you need to do is run a google search and you’ll see, but then, neither do I see an easy solution to this!

I love these designers but its hard to ignore plagiarism and not feel just a tad let down!!

If a picture is worth thousand words, why do I need to say more?
