Day 5: Rohit Bal

Rohit Bal closed the fashion week this year and his collection called ‘Siyahi’ was truly fitting the finale.

The way the colors progressed during the show were really interesting, there were ecrus and whites, and shades of blues and greens. The cuts and designs ranged from flowy fabrics to origami-like folds to heavily puffed skirts to ultra structured jackets and sherwanis for men and women…

The design was varied and the collection had a bit of everything.

Day 5: Prriya and Chintans

Prriya and Chintan’s collection just plain failed to impress me. The duo supposedly have drawn inpiration from “Oasis” but I just fail to get it though. The clothes seems to be haphazard and frazzled with just too many things going on. The color scheme just seemed all wrong for a show that is supposed to suggest tranquility in the midst of a harsh desert.

Day 5: Falguni And Shane Peacock

I really liked Falguni and Shane Peacock’s collection. The colors were bright, prints were delightful, embellishments were well thought out and the cuts worked. The collection was a smorgasbord of luxurious fabrics, prints, colors and textures!

I didn’t care for the longer gowns, but the shorter ones and the tops worked! Sure, some pieces were OTT but they were OTT in a kitschy way so I can’t really complain.

What I can’t get over is our Bollywood obsession. Amrita Arora walked the ramp. In some monstrosity. Looking quite out of her element and trying way too hard. Do people still say ‘whatever’ ? Because, I’d like to. Whatever.

Barring the celeb intrusion, loved the show.

Day 5: Ashish, Viral and Vikrant for Virtues

Can you ever go wrong with White. Me thinks No. Can you ever go wrong with Paisley prints. No again. That was the dominant feature of the “Indian High” collection by Ashish, Viral and Vikrant. Personally, I liked the outfits which were predominantly white or had more of the paisley on mustard.

Here are a few of my favorites from the collection..

Day 5: Swapan And Seema

Swapan and Seema’s collection was dominated by Indian clothes; saris, salwar-kameezes, lehengas and some dresses with Indian influences. Color pallette for the most part stayed muted and delicate but I loved the brown that they used…

The collection didn’t stray far from the tried and tested and was really safe. Saris were delicate and lehengas stayed fresh because they weren’t overworked! Some of the longer dresses were a surprise, they were simple and chic! And short day dresses were cute and young!

But like I said, the collection was very safe, and so, not much did stand out! This was yet another show that was way too safe and uninspired which is turning out to be a bit characteristic of quite a few shows I’ve been watching.
