In Raw Mango

After the sari look, Rasika opted for a very different Raw Mango look at the Manto celebratory event at Cannes 2018. The actor sported a dull gold blazer paired with a sheer navy blouse and gharara pants. It was an interesting combo but considering the pants had such a defined embroidered hem, between that and the visible gharara line, I was a bit on the fence about it.

Did you love it instantly?

Sari Style

Divya attended the Fashion For Relief show on Sunday evening and a Manto promotional event on Monday evening wearing saris again to both. For the fashion show, she picked a fusion sari and trouser look by Neeta Lulla and then in a sheer scalloped hem one by I Am Design.

The mint blouse didn’t photograph well but other than she looked nice in both.

In Alberta Ferretti

Mahira made her Cannes red carpet debut wearing an Alberta Ferretti strapless gown. Hair in a side swept do, her look was finished out with a bold red lip and jewellery from Chopard.

Unfortunately, I had such high expectations from her, that I was totally underwhelmed. I didn’t mind that she wanted to go for a simple elegant look but frankly the gown was nothing to write home about.

In Ralph & Russo

Post-wedding, Sonam’s first major appearance was on the Cannes red carpet. For the occasion, she picked a Ralph & Russo gown-meets-lehenga to wear. Playing off the mehendi still fresh on her hands, this bridal-inspired look was rounded out with soft make-up and a beautiful hair ornament from Amrapali.

Maybe we are all still reeling from the “#SonamKiShaadi” hangover but this outing felt like an extension of the wedding festivities. (We kept checking to see if a trail of Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla suits and saris were to follow.)

The princess puff always works for Sonam but in this case, it was all rather meh. And that hairstyle really let her down… Did absolutely nothing for her.

For the non-South Asian market, this look would’ve been both novel and unexpected. And in that, she delivers. But for those of us, who have consumed the wedding and fashion as served up by Ms. Ahuja née Kapoor, this felt rather underwhelming. And if she had to do a lehenga, there were far better options closer to home. (Her Anamika Khanna appearances on the Cannes red carpet have been far more impactful when towing that Indianwear-inspired line.)

How we wish she took a risk, a chance! If not her, then who? Here’s hoping she delivers with her next appearance.
