Anupama Dayal Spring 2010, Lakme Fashion Week
Anupama Dayal’s collection “Joie” was joyful indeed with all the colors that she used….electric blue, cobalt, light green, chocolate brown, red and oranges in fabrics like silks, voiles, tissues and satins. There were some playful dresses, colorful tunics and interesting prints. The ones that stood out for me though were the colorful embellished dresses.
Gauri And Nainika Spring 2010, Lakme Fashion Week
A pinch of Giambattista Valli, a bit of Dolce & Gabanna and smattering of Valentino is what immediately came to mind when I saw this latest offering from Gauri and Nainika. Sticking to their niche, the ladies served up more evening-wear albeit with shorter hemlines and more corseted silhouettes in a palette that comprised solely of red, black and white. The bows and roses were dramatic and the gowns and their styling begged to be tagged ‘old-world’ with that unmistakable vintage charm…all of which that I would’ve whole-heartedly appreciated had I been blind to the International runways. It’s a losing battle I know because it’s only a matter of time before we see these gowns on the red carpet and on many, many tinsel town ladies.
Mandira Wirk Spring 2010, Lakme Fashion Week
Mandira Wirk’s collection called “Humble Luxe” had a color palette of light browns, faded rust and fabrics like linen, silk and jersey and the pieces seemed very summery and easy. She quite liberally used ‘zippers’ in her clothes that just weren’t functional but also added visual interest to the clothes, quite on the trend! We are thankful that the collection wasn’t just about draped dresses because while they look interesting for about a minute, they get ‘tired’ mighty quick. The sheer tea-stained dresses with smudged coral/rust print had me looking forward to Spring. Even if it has to be the next one.
Rehane Spring 2010, Lakme Fashion Week
Rehane’s collection was, and I hate myself for using the word, ‘cute’. Girly-girl dresses, shorts, feminine tops in fabrics like silk, organza and chiffon and colors like yellow, cream and red all made up her collection. The use of rose motif was interesting, am glad she didn’t overwhelm the garments with all that print and embroidery. A collection that was definitely sweet without being sickly so.
