Sari Style

Also at the reception were these lovely ladies. While Suhasini and Amala kept it simple with their saris, Sumalatha opted for a Sabyasachi and Jaya Prada, a kanjeevaram.

  1. The drape is sloppy on Amala. I know she likes to keep it simple but it won’t hurt to see her in a kanchivaram. She would look so lovely. I am not fond of any of the saris on display but they all look nice.

    • Amala is an Animal welfare activist and an environmentalist. She is a vegan and doesn’t use any animal products like leather, silk and wool. She prefers cotton and ahimsa silk. I am not sure if Kanchi produces ahimsa kanjeevaram silk sarees for people like her.

    • I agree about the sloppy drape. She always looks so simple and beautiful but I just wish wish she would drape the pallu better!

And suhasini’s sari seems to be very overwhelming on her.

Jayaprada looks very classy…. and Sumalatha looks okay.

  2. Amala is such an anachronism in the society she lives in. She’s stuck to her principles even in the midst of, and maybe even as a reaction to, the vulgar displays of wealth all around her. Yet she still comes across as more beautiful and ageless than many of the ladies here.

    • Brilliantly said Nivedita. Amala is the richest person in Andhra Pradesh. Her husband Nagarjuna is richer than Chiranjeevi and the Kamineni’s out there who are exhibiting their richness with competition. But she never wore a Kanjeevaram sari or expensive jewellery. She only wears Organic Cottons, Ahimsa Silks and her black beads Mangalsutra. She does lot of donations, charities and social work.

      • There’s lot more to anyone’s personal life/thoughts/activities from what we actually know if each one of us start digging about a celebrity’s life ( for example most of us know/have heard a lot about her life besides being all that you have mentioned) and put it out here.Unfortunately this blog not a blog or forum for that. Just my 2 cents.

  3. Amala looks fantastic, sari is too underwhelming though! The sabyasachi sari and blouse are ridiculously mis-matched. ordinary looking stuff

  4. They all look wonderful, although Sumalatha’s blouse seems too heavy and Amala’s drape is too sloppy. Love Suhasini’s saree and the red batua contrasting it.

Lot of respect for Amala to stand up for her beliefs. I don’t buy leather, but not buying silk has been tough. I do hope Ahimsa silk gets more popular. I remember reading that there is a designer in Bangalore using that material for sarees.

  6. I wish suhasini wore a simpler blouse – The saree is so beautiful… Amala is in her trademark style!!… Sumalatha – Sigh, such a beautiful woman… bad choice……. Jayaprada looks beautiful, but wish she pulled her hair back into a braid or a bun..
