In Hemang Agrawal

While promoting her upcoming movie on the sets of a television show, Sonam was photographed in a Hemang Agrawal sari. Wearing her hair up, she rounded out the look with a pair of flats and silver and gold-toned jewelry from Amrapali.

Mixed metallics might not be everyone’s cup of tea but Sonam sure did it well. Personally, I find the jewelry excessive but also know that a certain level of ott-ness is expected of Ms. Kapoor, it more or less is now her brand. I can’t imagine this working on most others without looking costume-y, and it does on Sonam too to a certain degree but, to her credit she made it work.

  1. Wish she had worn the pallu the natural way and skipped one or both the bangles. Would have made a world of difference. Right now it’s too costumey to take her seriously.

  3. Tinfoil meets Tribal. Ghastly look.
You guys really tried to not upset Miss Sonam (Payroll). The attempt to mildly criticize to not upset your readers and hide your bias is kind of cute.

  4. What a waste of a lovely saree! I am usually a fan of Sonam ‘quirking’ outfits successfully, but this one doesn’t cut it. The drape makes it look like a mythological drama costume.

  5. What is this? So costumey!! Why do designers desconstruct a saree… leave the saree alone, please! She looks ready for a classical dance performance ( and, I dont mean it in a good way). Only saving grace is the subtle makeup

  6. Her naval showing is odd and fabric is not ironed well, the fabric looks all creased which is a downer overall. Thumbs down! Chainmail necklace looks overbearing too.

  7. I dont find the jewellery OTT – that wouldve been Anushka from her reception where her neck was stuffed and she had severe hair which made it worse

  8. This look is right up Sonam’s alley. However, I wish she would have ditched the gold bangles. Makes the fusion outfit very traditional which was not needed.

  9. @Priyanka and @Payal – I think its okay for you guys to decisively like or dislike outfits. That is what i’ve loved about HHC since I first started following your blog probably back in 2008. I feel like you are very diplomatically and apologetically admitting you like Sonam’s look here –

If this has anything do with all the haters bombarding you with comments about being biased, I think you should let it go. It is absolutely fine to resonate and connect with some folks’ style more than others’ – that doesn’t make you biased. Also there are some things some can pull off well which others just cant. So it is fine if sometimes, you may like a look on one person and not on another. Stay bold and authentic – that is what makes HHC, HHC. We love you the way you are hehe.. Anyway, I’m done with my musings!

I liked this look on Sonam, but a different necklace would have elevated it further!

  10. More like a crumpled mess than a sari. The neck piece is beautiful but doesn’t go at all with that outfit.. the drape, the vest- y blouse.. the club hair do.. don’t know what the attempt was about, here.. the cuffs.. was it Mahabharata auditions?

  11. Her hair and makeup are great. She looks fantastic neck up. I actually think her face looks great here, like really clean and clear.

But this outfit is a hot mess. Too many wrinkles in the fabric, the weird fit of the blouse actually makes her look bigger than she is, and then the jewelry is mismatched. It’s kinda like she was required to do a theme and couldn’t make it work.

  12. This sari with a turtleneck full sleeved black blouse and earrings would have looked awesome… i love the concept of mixed metals… but here this is so garrish… i cant help but think she is going to break into a 80’s filmi dance any minute

  13. This is a really, really bad look and quite disappointing coming from Sonam because there’s absolutely no redeeming factor. It’s so horribly crumpled throughout (it’s evident that it’s not just a result of sitting for hours together). The blouse is so shabby, it looks like a waistcoat and that peekaboo around the navel looks funny. The drape of the dupatta adds to the costume-y look and makes it all the more frumpy. That broad wristband is bad on its own and worn in a pair again makes it look so costume-y. I understand fashion is subjective but I’m quite surprised that you were very generous with this look. Your longwinded, beating-around-the-bush write-up felt like you were reviewing Sonam and her general style mantra rather than this specific look for the day. She may have an OTT style in general and others may have looked worse but objectively how did *she* fare in *this specific* ensemble? No hate, just my opinion! :)

  14. She made it work? Joke of the year. She looks like she just stepped out of a tiny rickshaw with that crumbled i-dont-know-what-it-is outfit after shooting Mahabharata episode like Sana said. And don’t even get me started on that whitewashing all over her face and body and the jewelleries. Haha Having favourites is one thing but being biased to this level is like having alternative facts. And yes we all know how much you love featuring her on your vogue covers just like your other favourite tina.

  15. Good elements, just badly executed. The fabric is crumpled and the blouse makes it look costumey. Just the help of a good steam iron and one cuff removed (maybe the earrings too) and this look would be elevated a few notches.. unfortunately shes playing to the gallery here. Most TV viewers love shiny shiny stuff and she provides that in abundance here!

  16. wish u had shown the runway look as well- same saree but worn in the normal navari drape and the waistcoat blouse worn on top. sonam just screwed it up with this unflattering dupatta style drape and OTT jewellery and too formal updo.

  17. So she showed up at an award show in such a wrinkly outfit? I am not going to call it a sari. Looks like she went through the suitcase of a back up dancer from a 80s mysthological and dragged out a crumpled costume, piled on sume costume jewlery , slapped on some pancake make up and rushed to the stage to do some bollyclassical dance in tandem with Anu Kapoor.

  18. Nothing and noone can make this Mahabharat inspired look work . Neck up she looks nice. I like the jewellery but boy is that saree bad. It’s crumpled and the look is overtly ‘pinned’.
