In Anavila

Wearing another Anavila sari with beautiful silver jewelry (that complemented the handwoven sari rather well), Sonam attended an event promoting her most recent movie.

Love the sari and the jewelry. The boxy blouse akin to a crop-top however takes away from the look. Between that and the make-up that didn’t quite photograph well unless when in natural light brought this look down a notch.

  1. So many other celebs from Dia, Karishma, Shilpa (using her name since she is exactly not light skinned) have been featured on and off flashes, I have never seen them in powder dabba dipped faces ever. I don’t even mind the crop top blouse, kind of goes well with the look but the MU is pathetic like always.

    • I agree..thou talking abt Dia n Karishma, dey r naturally fair skinned dats y their skin tone never hv much difference wn photographed under flash n widout flash I guess..

      • That is why I brought in Shilpa because she is not fair skinned like the other two. Flash might be a culprit only in rare cases but we do ALL know from Kajol (who endorses fairness products) to Sonam all have either white washed or ashy face for most of their appearances and flash can’t be blamed all the time.

  2. I miss the days when her appearances used to be so exciting and inspiring. It’s so disappointing now. Unkempt, odd clothes, and the white washed makeup. Forget the clothes, I’d like to see her show up with decent makeup for a change and that’ll be a good start.

Baby steps PnP.. Baby steps.. One day you will finally be able to write “bad makeup issues as always”

Way to downplay.( it’s all abt Dinero)
She needs to fire her sister aka stylist ( if this was her idea) and the MUA.
She is exactly like her character in Aisha.

  5. Seriously P&P, when you know she is not looking that good (to me she is over-done for every event.. be it in terms of attire or makeup), you more than make-up for it by over complimenting her attires. Here too, you have heaped praises for the jewellery and sari twice. I didn’t say it then but even during her farcical Cannes yellow Elie Saab dress, you made up by praising Elie Saab by saying “the gown may have been an Elie Saab (And we love him!)”

Anyway, is fashion ONLY about clothing? Looking at her horrendous makeup on the trot, since when did she become entitle to dish out fashion advice to other actresses on Koffee With Karan? Especially to Deepika and Parineeti?? She looks stupid with that sloppy drape!

      • It’s all about the money. If they aren’t ass lickers there is no Bloated Ego Bratty Sonam and if there is no Sonam then there is no Dinero.Vicious cycle my fren.

    • We do love the sari and and we do love the jewellery. Maybe it is our personal taste, but we do and hence the “complimenting” the attire. And no, we are not getting one penny for praising Sonam. If we did, AGAIN, we’d have retired already.

As for being overdressed, every actress does so these days. Not just her.

      • Awww..How u guys are defending Sonam by bringing other actresses? I want to know which actress goes to a Publicity of a movie looking like a bride other than sonam? So if other actresses go nude for film promotion it is justified for her to do so too? You guys are sounding more like Sonam here. I am sorry. You guys just lost an ardent reader with ur non sensical justification of liking Costumey Sonam Look.

      • I am hoping against hope that you are not the real Payal because if you are then defending Sonam by saying “As for being overdressed, every actress does so these days. Not just her.” made you lose much of your credibility. It is a sad, sad comment.

        • It’s THEIR blog, you guys. Stop trying to dictate whom they should/shouldn’t like! They are entitled to have an opinion, even if it doesn’t agree with yours. Jeez.

        • How the hell is wearing a saree for promotions overdressed? Especially for a movie like prdp. By that logic deepika wore a saree to a golf course. But no one called that overdressed. My support goes to p&p. You need to keep your bias against sonam aside!

          • If P&P are entitled to their opinion, even I am entitled to my opinion because whatever I said is based upon my observation. Hence, my conclusion. Further, it’s not the saree that I’m criticising in this particular post of Sonam but it’s the makeup. I clearly said that being overdone is not just in terms of attire, it is in terms of makeup as well. So you clearly have missed that point in my comment, Nancy.

I also read it in one of the interviews in press where P&P had been featured and they had been told that actresses like Sonam and Vidya Balan are HOOKED to their blog. So it just confirms whatever I have observed!

            Reply
        • Why is there a need to question their credibility on this? It’s not like P&P hold the pope level authority on fashion. It is their view, biased or unbiased. Take it with a pinch of salt, you guys. We are all here for entertainment purposes.
And if they are getting paid for doing this, we should be happy for them. I am sure they spend a lot of time keeping this blog going, so why not?

          • Exactly! well said..may be blue bells(and similar others) should start her own blog to share her opinion freely n not impose it on this site or on PnP :)

  6. It is hard to believe that a professional makeup artist (I’d assume she uses one) doesn’t know how things would photograph under flash
The makeup looks lovely outside but there is no blending at all when under the flash. The concealer is awful. I don’t know how sonam or someone in her styling team hasn’t at all noticed how poorly her makeup has been photographing off late. It’s one thing to use a foundation too light (though I hate that too) but here you see clear patches

  7. In this day and age, it is really a shame she can’t find concealer and foundation that matches her actual complexion. Even the staffs at Sephora do a good job of understanding the undertone of a skin color and suggesting the right shade.
This gives me an impression that L’oreal doesn’t have good products of Indian skin tone. All the L’oreal Indian ambassadors are in overdone, bad makeup.

    • In India most people want to use a foundation that is at least 2 times lighter than their actual skin tone. So I am not surprised that Sonam does it too (or her MUA thinks that’s how things sell in India).

  8. As much I agree with everyone traumatised over makeup issues, I am gonna have to side with PnP here. Attire and jewellery are tangible, takes personal interest to put the look together and modify if need be. Credit should be given for getting the combination on point. As far as makeup goes, it really is difficult to tell beforehand in your mirror how well its done or how will it photograph.

Have to hand it to these two for allowing these slanderous comments. If only our nation was truly democratic like that.

  9. Absolutely love this look! The drape too does not look out of place at all thanks to the crop top! I love how the different elements have come together to put together an elegant and different look.

  10. I like the overall look. She has added a statement piece to what otherwise would have bee a rather dull saree..
As for her MUA it is usually Namrata Soni is it not? She usually posts pics of Sonam before major events.

  11. “Makeup that didnt quite photograph well unless in natural light brought this look down a notch”. Ladies, SERIOUSLY!? You lose a ton of credibility you have, with such ridonkulous statements! Bend any more and you guys would snap! Almost any time you feature Sonam *cough* ALL THE TIME *cough* it’s like someone is making you grudgingly give out one critical remark. Most of your criticism of Sonam is always worded so carefully that it’s more of a compliment than any meaningful critique. And yet, it’s “Anamika Khanna” that you’re biased about sez you!
I’m really smh-ing at this masterpiece of a sentence: “Makeup that didnt quite photograph well unless in natural light”…ha ha

  12. The saree and jewelry are gorgeous and the crop top actually works. Sonam definitely needs to find the correct foundation for her skin tone though.

  13. Fashion is all about individual taste and mostly a reflection of how we perceive or interpret a garment or accessory in relation to our current or past environment, right . This used to be a blog where people discussed fashion and trends. Now it’s become a place where one critiques a person wearing the outfit than the actual outfit itself. Sigh.

  14. Such abusive language!!! It’s really sad to see this blog getting ruined by bitter remarks every day.. It’s sad guys you could be so bitter to people while discussing on the fashion sense of a celebrity.. How about your sense of demeanour?! it’s just some clothes and makeup.. damn it! It’s P&P’s blog and they are allowed to put their words as they wish to.. and you are allowed to comment on the look, good/bad/ugly as you wish to.. A little courteousness wouldd help in keeping the blog clean.. C’mon we like this blog and that’s why we’re here.. right?!

  15. Why so many people hate on Sonam and hate on p&p for liking her..So if her make up has issues how does that take way from the fact that she always experiments ? For so called fashion enthusiasts y”all haters can’t handle Sonam trying new things!! Sounds to me like lot of my aunts who just can’t handle the “generation gap” !! Sonam always tries new things unlike other celebs who just blindly put on things their stylist gives them (might I say just “safe”/boring outfits )
..no wonder p&p like Sonam she is keeping freshness alive in btwn… Haters &Old aunts grow up..

  16. God!!! Not again!! When will we stop seeing these sloppy drapes of mithai sarees.! What happened to well put together Sonam..?! I can’t bear to watch her style go down the drain like this! & someone pls tell anavila designer to stop making clones of sarees..There was an individuality of sarees earlier that has stopped totally. They all look the same- sloppy/frumpy/copy look!!

  17. Seems to me that Sonam is using a concealer and not blending it in enough or baking her concealer with powder and not blending again! Contouring is all fab but one must blend like crazy. That being said; dang people on this site hate on Sonam! She is hauled out and ripped to shreds. I personally find her to be courageous in her sartorial choices but often the comments here tend to wonder to cyber bullying levels. Just a watch point, only level criticism that you would be happy to receive.
