In Ralph & Russo

Comment image 57

At the amfAR gala on Thursday evening, Sonam was seen in a powder blue Ralph & Russo gown paired with traditional ruby jhumkis.

While the gown overall was pretty, the color seemed to wash her out. She did look pretty but the look overall didn’t quite make that impact that I was hoping for. I also didn’t like that stiff shirt-style cuff design on the sleeve.

Did you love her amfAR look instantly?

  1. just because Aishwarya had a major impact wearing Rulph & Russo last year Sonam would try out all of their outfits, but alas hers at not at all impactful. Doesn’t matter how hard she tries she can’t be as elegant as Aishwarya. Give up Sonam and go home.

    • She is best friends with Ralph and Russo… Just go and search for their vacation trip to maldives last year. And she was their muse for this year.

    • Aishwarya is a very beautiful woman no doubt, but Sonam’s impact on fashion scene in India has been far bigger. Just because none of the woman are as beautiful as Ash does not mean they “give up and go home”

    • Here’s another comparison that makes no sense. The two are poles apart. If you have a bias don’t just rush to plaster that name everywhere.

For what it is worth Sonam is amongst a clutch of actresses who understands fashion. On the other hand there is no reason for actresses to be so, they are entitled to hits and misses.

It is not that hard to judge each post on its own for the look and not pull down other folk. And to keep on mind that fashion is at the end of the day a frivolous thing (for entertainment only as PnP say!) and there is no need to censure or berate anyone and send them home to the naughty corner for wearing a look you didn’t like.

  3. I think she looks good but not great here. I am not sure why she stuck to Ralph & Russo this year. The gown is strictly average. No wow factor about the gown itself. Sonam is typically the kind who will experiment. She stuck to R&R and mostly pastel shades almost bordering on white. I love that she wore the jhumkis…Also, I wish she wore something more colorful, more springlike, flowery for this event. And of course she would have looked way prettier if she was smiling. Even on a bad day she still manages to look pretty decent.

  4. I don’t mind the colour or the sleeve cuff but there’s something about that neckline/train that’s putting me off a little. Sonam still looks amazing. LOVE the styling – hair, makeup, earrings, nails, everything!

  5. What’s about the Ash and Sonam comparison in many posts recently!? I don’t get it… Both have very different fashion tastes. Though both are beautiful in their own way, they have different body types and face structure, and have to be styled accordingly!

I am on the fence about the jhumkis with this dress, but when I look at it overall, I don’t mind them so much. I somehow really like this dress, and Sonam looks very beautiful here. Kudos to her for always trying out something new!

  6. She looks really good; the dress fits her well and shows off her curves. I don’t think the color washes her out; it’s the white background that’s clashing with the dress. Great make-up and hair. Love the jhumkis! My only gripe would be that the gown has a train…again; but then again she looks great.

  7. you have bad pics here, looks like theres a filter on it or something making her look washed out…all the other pics she looks normal

  8. These r the worst pics of her I have seen from amfar.just on another site I saw she looks stunning, dreamy but something abt this look she cannot move ,she is stuck like a doll in all pictures.I luv how Blake lively and others work their capes and tails on cannes carpet where as sonam is just static while some guy has to fix her Cape foe her.otherwise this is a pretty look and figure flattering

  9. I don’t really like it coz the dress is over designed . Just chop the extra sleeve off, the train off ( u don’t have to wear one every single time ) , and simplify the neckline to show off the rest of it
The jhumkis feel too heavy for the dress.

  10. It’s a beautiful gown .. Trust me she looked amazing in it too
But why repeat !! Why the same ?
She walked the red carpet twice at cannes wearing a very very similar look, embroidery & color
    What is with these celeb
They dress up so over the top in their country .. The screening .. The awards.
But when it comes to international I don’t get it why do they have to experiment things that minute

  11. She looks damn beautiful. And only she cld hv worked out those jhumkis with an R&R dress. Having said that i wish she wd have tried a different designer. This got a bit too predictable.

  12. U guys are complaining a tad bit too much about Sonam……just cause everyone said u were partial to her??? She is perfect….. Name one Indian ( or any other) lady who could have pulled off this couture; totally own the look and still add something new to the game??? No one…..

    • I can give you names of a handful of Indian ladies who will look equally stunning in couture pieces but this post is about sonam.

Coming back to Sonam, she looks divine. Those jhumkas are the perfect addition.

  13. After all the gel she applied for the hair dos on the red carpet, she did head bath and I like it. You know I don’t like dust and grease in my hair. The jhumkis are the only piece I like here. Forget about this dress Sonam, after going to India pick some stunning outfits from your wardrobe.

  14. Her makeup is really good this time. Full points for the makeup and dress is pretty, but nothing Wow about it.

P.S. I was longing to see one celebrity wearing ethnic dresses at the international film festival. Now all these gowns have actually started looking the same. Same train, same color palette. So much access to designer and non-designer collections and they end up wearing the same kind of things again and again.

    • If looking like a million bucks despite being 42 of yrs of age is equivalent to being an ‘aunty’ (the definition of which I need) then I can kill to look like that at that age. AND this has not got to do with only Ash’s beauty! Only some of her appearances go downhill because of poor styling but even then she never looks unkempt. Infact poor styling only defines what bad make-up can do to beautiful women like her. Ash’s strengths lie in owning those vintage style looks with side-swept hair, bold lip colour and well defined eye and eye makeup because of her timeless beauty.

Sonam is another risk-taker. I do give it to her for always being the one to explore different styles. Maybe it has got to do with her keeping up with the tag of fashionista attached to her. Discounting her ever so event inappropriate clothing back home, let’s face it, she puts in efforts to bring some drama to the red carpet and it shows. It is not always easy to have the audacity to take risks and emerge successful. And just like any human, who commits mistakes, she has her fair share as well. She does take her International appearances way too seriously but then she owns a lot of them too on the flip side. For example: This yr! I think her run on the red carpet for Cannes 2016 has been really good.

So yeah, there is NO comparison between these 2 celebs. Don’t let the media spoon-feed you just because 2 stars from India make it to Cannes each year (And they anyway started out separately!). They have an individual journey and individual sense of style. Period.

      • Well today when sonam outdid aishwarya at cannes and how, people are like…there is no comparison between aish and sonam…they are poles apart…blah blah.
Lets go back to the comments last year and the bitching that came sonam’s way and all those rude comparisons. Such hypocrites!!
And just for the records i dont support comparisons, but just saying…!!

        • Lol. You completely missed the point. My objective of writing my views here was to pin point use of the word ‘aunty’. The rest followed. If you support comparisons, you can comment otherwise without picking on others. Just saying.

  15. She looks beautiful! Don’t know exactly how I describe this look but that towering figure with her curves highlighted in the best possible way and that sculpted hairdo with beautiful jhumkis on her dainty face and even the well manicured red painted nails. It has all come together quite beautifully except for that ill-fitted sleeve on one arm.
Makeup is flawless. I hope she always turns out in such a makeup. Whoever it is, s/he is a keeper, Sonam. :) Or Maybe abroad, MUAs have a better sense of makeup blend. :P

  16. To answer the question — Did you love her look instantly? — Yes, I did. I love the idea of pairing Indian jewellery with western wear. And I love jhumkis. I also love this particular shade of blue. So what’s not to love about this look? :D

  18. I think she looks great. Make up is great and the dress fits her curves beautifully. I wish it didn’t have the cape/train, because we have seen her in very similar looks in the past week. I am getting a Ralph and RUsso fatigue, seeing her wear the embroidered, caped, trained R and R dresses three times in a row. I wish she had changed it up.

  19. Not only did she repeat the same pastel colour, but she also chose the same silhouette .. its a bit of a bore … nothing exciting as it was repeated looks different way of styling …

  20. She looks lovely! Those who are saying one shouldn’t compare Aishwarya and her need to give it a rest. When Aishwarya looked good last year, people compared the two of them and said Sonam needs to ‘learn’ from Aishwarya. Well now, Aishwarya needs to learn from Sonam.

  21. She looks breathtakingly BEAUTIFUL!! I am in love with those jhumkas and those maroon manicured nails playing against the pastel blue colored gown. That princessy hair with that captivating smile playing on her beautiful, dainty face makes her look super stunning! This is one of her best ever looks. I love each and everything. She looks absolutely dreamy and gorgeous! I am awestruck! WOWW!!! <3<3
