In Shehlaa

Wearing a lace sari and a net jacket, both by Shehlaa, paired with an Agent Provacateur corset Sonam attended the Filmfare Glamour and Style Awards on Tuesday evening. Earrings from Narayan Jewellers and a ring from Renu Oberoi finished out her look.

It’s been a while since I’ve really really liked a Sonam red carpet look. She sure changed that with this appearance. Loved this look from head to toe.

    • Though I won’t call it comical but there is something about Sonam’s fashion that is very Marie Antoinette. I understand high fashion and runway and freedom of expression. But she makes fashion completely out of sync with everything else. Sonam looks like a nice gal but I always feel she is a little out of touch with herself and her surrounding And partly coz of that her fashion efforts (she almost always looks good though) look misplaced.

      • Exactly KRs. I mean how this being fashionable? Wearing something totally random and ott in the name of fashion is fashionable? She mostly looks like she is going for some costume party or the other.

  1. Uh..I think the dress code asked the guests to swathe themselves in as much fabric as possible. So, of course Sonam (and others) stuck to it and then SOME.

  2. The bow on her headpiece is extremely juvenile which starkly contrasts with the goth, Morticia Addams vibe going on with the rest of the look.

Also those sleeves! I mean, of course can’t expect better craftsmanship from Shehla.

  3. I like it sans those sleeves. She must be insecure about her arms as she tries to cover them up most of the time. Love the drama neck up though.

    • The Met has a theme. But you’re quite right in that she would show up sticking out like a sore thumb irrespective of what the theme would be.

  4. Sorry to digress.. but what is FilmFare Glamor and Style Awards show?? Is it different than the regular Filmfare Awards?
If so what do they award here?

  5. Ok. How does she manage pull this off!? And so well. It looks like an ensemble perfect for disaster, but she makes it work so well.
Actually glamorous for a glamour awards red carpet.

  6. Are you sure you really “really really” like it? Or it is just slightly better than the past few months of “ok then” fashion outings? ;)

  7. Someone should’ve told this girl to come to the Grammys. Could’ve gave Cardi B at the Grammys a run for her money in terms of styling and presentation. Also, can someone send Sonam to the Met Gala instead of Deepika?

      • Yes, because every teenage model at the MET has so much more heft and merit than Sonam. Give me a break! It’s as when Indian women themselves run down other Indian women representing us on the international stage so viciously. Sonam gets lots of love from the international fashion fraternity and she’s regularly voted best dressed on the world’s most widely read fashion blogs.

        • I don’t know about other stars at Met ,but Sonam surely doesn’t deserve to be there. She can’t act well, doesn’t know how to speak sensibly, wears the most ridiculous clothes with absolutely bad makeup. Its only India where someone gets called “Fashion Icon” (self proclaimed btw) for just being able to afford big brands.

  8. She looks great.
But like most of her looks, even this can’t be worn in real life. Being a style icon i think she should give us some looks that we can be inspired from.

  9. I love this. I was looking at the amount of personal style, eccentricity and whimsy that all the pop stars (slim and curvy, black and white, young and middle aged) brought to the Grammy’s. And it made me sad that nearly every female Desi celebrity is a young, tall, supermodel-esque woman who takes no risks with even haircut or colour, let alone audacious style.

Sonam is the one exception and I love that she makes fashion about art of self expression and not about dolling oneself up for the male gaze. Sadly, this idea seems completely alien to the Indian audience but there is a reason why she’s considering a fashion icon amongst international designers and at Cannes.

  10. What’s with the bow and the net together? Why ? The make up looks lovely but alas it was covered. The gown was nothing novel as Sonam likes to this silhouette. The only person who wears Shehla is Sonam , maybe the odd sightings on some celebrities here and there. Dont think she is getting the right opportunity to dress people with different silhouettes .

  11. Its very odd to wear a hat with a gown. Without that and the sleeved this look may have worked. Once again, Sonam is trying waaaaay too hard.

  12. Who wears a saree like a gown and add sleeves to it like gloves.. and.. accessories with a veil and head accent? I can’t look well in all that lace black.. but I’m sure there are more addons to that ‘outfit’

  13. I actually really love it. I know a lot of Sonam’s experiments don’t work but this one is beautiful (the photo with white background shows the full potential of the dress)

Everyone has stylists these days so everyone know a how to dress well, but how many are willing to push boundaries and experiment?
