In Ralph & Russo Couture

Comment image 76

For the red carpet, Sonam went blue in a Ralph & Russo Couture gown from the Spring 2014 collection. Chopard sapphire and diamond earrings and a pair of Zanotti sandals added more elements of blue to the look.

Half the battle was already won with the color pick. The cobalt blue gown really stood out against the red carpet. While the gown was dramatic, the side swept hair softened the look and made it a classic one.

I do have to point out though, in some pics (more here) the eye-makeup made her look a bit tired.

  1. I was a bit disappointed with this look..the bottom half of gown did it for me.May be i was expecting a bit more…she had set the bar real high last time :)

  2. After that ridiculous Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Sonam knocks this one out.of.the.park! Matchy shoes yes, and that makeup is a tad harsh/overdone, but overall, she looks AMAZZZING! This makeup makes her look older and harder in the face – wish they had toned it down a notch, but again, overall, what a color and she carries it off with aplomb!

  3. Love the color but not a fan of the bottom half of the dress. Also, I miss her signature sweet smile. All this pouting is so not her!

The gown is not only ugly but it photographs horribly. It looks like some cheap shiny material with a weird train . The blue is too jarring against the red carpet
The make up is too dark against the coral lips which don’t suit her. Her concealer fails her and why did she have to dye her gorgeous hair that ghastly shade of brown ?
Blue shoes with a blue dress? Too matchy- this is abit of a miss in my book. The only redeeming factor is her hair which no doubt is stunning

  5. I don’t know what went wrong from the hotel to the red carpet but there’s a vast difference. The pics shared by Rhea on Instagram shows a glamazon with perfect make up. The pics shared by you shows a tired ageing Sonam Kapoor. Also in the insta pics the position of the gown on the shoulders is perfectly accentuateing the sweetheart neckline but at the red carpet, somehow it has shifted up really high on the shoulder – maybe coz of her posing? I would like to ignore the red carpet pics as in the hotel pics, Sonam did knock it outta the ball park. Btw has Ralph & Russo managed to steal Elie Saab’s Cannes thunder this year or what??

    • Well they can also correct their own photos before putting them on Instagram with all kind of filters and Photoshop. Red carpet photos are more unforgiving. I love the colour on her . It’s amazing and I love her hair but I don’t like the gown . Very disappointed .

  6. Stunning gown. Stunning colour. Trashy make-up. Ruins everything!! She looked stunning in the insta posts, but with all the flashes it’s baaad!!

  7. She looked amazing! Perfect choice! Incredible shoes!!!

Its not the makeup thats bad, Sonam naturally has very dark circles around her eyes. If you see her instagram pics of going to cannes without heavy makeup you will notice the discolouration.

I guess even L’oreal makeup couldn’t hide it.

As much as i can’t stand Sonam’s personality i cannot fault this look of hers! Big kudos to Rhea.

  9. I agree with the comments that the instagram pix by both Sonam and Rhea look so much better than these red carpet pix. In those, the blue looks a royal blue and the make up is on point. I do like this look of hers. Her hair looks amazing and that dress fits her like a glove. Unfortunately, it didn’t photograph very well on the red carpet.

  10. Surprised that you guys didn’t point out the terrible makeup! So hard to look past it..even if you do (which took a huge effort in itself), there is just more disappointment ahead in the form of that blue gown. Huma wore a similar silhouette gown not too long ago and had to face a lot of flak, but with Sonam people tend to digest an out-there fashion statement more easily :P

  11. We now know that Loreal’s make up cant hide fatigued eyes and bags :( Too bad. The red against bright blue is too jarring and clashy. Love the dress and shoes though. Jane Fonda though – oh la la.

  12. No complaints about her outfit but it’s her makeup that’s annoying me. I know South Asian makeup artists paint people a shade or two lighter so this is her non-whitewashed self. That’s noticeable but not the issue. It’s the bad orange contouring (okay the blush is orange which is making the contour look orange too) which is just unacceptable and the fact that her dark circles are on the verge of showing up. She’s the brand ambassador for a makeup brand so that’s unacceptable too. They should know how to deal with dark circles.

  13. Sonam if you read this please please do not get your make up by gora make up artist, cause they always over do it. There are not use working with our skin. next time take your own make up artist.
Royal blue is also not our color. You could have worn something more soft color.
    your hair was good.
Listen even Katrina make wasn’t great either.

  14. dark circles under her eye are so visible in her close up pics.. unfortunate.. an updo, beautiful eye make up and a nude lip.. we would be singing a different tune..

  15. The top half is OK, the bottom half looks like she wrapped a satin sheet around herself. Also the blue fabric photographs very cheap.

  16. I think even mallika’s gown was more elegant than this complicated gown..the materials looks tacky..!!hope she fares well in her second outing..hugely disappointed ..after all the hullabaloo around her Cannes visit…we get to see this..!!

  17. The gown is from a spring collection. To me the overall styling does not look ‘ spring’ from any angle. The whole look feels heavy, not fresh, jarring :( The gown is heavy duty and to balance it out I think an updo and lighter ear rings would have helped.
P nP with such a voluminous gown for anybody else most probably you would have said an updo was needed!

  18. She looks great. I love the gown…the color is striking and just different, accentuates her small waist. Makeup could have been better, but it’s not disastrous.

  19. I don’t love it, I don’t hate it. The hair’s good but looks a little fake, and that is some aggressive bronzer going on there. The colour of the dress is great but something about Sonam of late just leaves me cold.

  20. I don’t think this dress is working on her! Its meant for someone more slender especially if you see the picture in the look book on the model and the hair is competing with the gown! And you pointed out the make-up already but I thought it looked unfinished. Sorry Sonam, we know you can do better!

  21. She’s lovely and this colour suits her very well. Sonam knows perfectly how to walk on the red carpet with confidence as compared to Katrina Kaif!

  22. Actually I expected much much better. The dress is forgettable and super messy. I just feel the dress is wearing her instead of the other way round.

  23. Too busy. The gown is horrible. She should have put her hair up or at the least pulled it away from the neckline. The gown with all its folds and her waves and the bad makeup….fail!!

  24. She looks exhausted!Coral doesn’t work with this shade of blue.A more matter fabric would have suited better.

Thank said ,she’s the best we got.

  25. I am not usually a fan of Sonam as I feel she is often over styled (for example her last Abu Sandeep monstrosity) but this is breathtaking! Come on folks, lets give credit where it is due. Ralph and Russo are one of the most exclusive couturiers in the world. The fabric ain’t cheap- it photographed a little shiny in some pictures. Her eye make up is okay too (not a deal breaker). What an upgrade from Katrina. Now I am anxious to see what Aishwarya brings to the red carpet.

  26. The gown is lovely. Orange lips and an Azure dress on a dusky complexion was not chic at first glance. But the look kind of grew on me. Glad Sonam took a risk. She is a beautiful girl.

  27. Love the outfit on her. She brings that drama on the red carpet. So wish she wd have had a different lip color and her hair up. It would be just perfect then.

  28. That last pose with the train is hilarious. The hair is tacky so is the makeup. But she looks okay in that gown because of her height. As for all the people talking about how good she looks in Insta. Obviously, the filters always help, they can make anything look good. Most pictures posted on here is always her filtered ones except for these.

  29. Uhm I’m sorry but this is really quite a fail. Colour doesn’t suit her skin tone, material photographs terribly, and make up is tacky and she looks so sad and tired. I much preferred breezy knot and relaxed nude face and the Ashi dress on day 2 at the India pavilion book release.
It is Sonam not Aishwarya who looks like the aunty here- wrt her catty comment on Ms Rai some time back.

  30. Guess the hair, haircolour and makeup are to blame. This look dint pack the punch which her last year’s Anamika one did.

  31. This blue is not for her complexion,…a pastel shade would have worked better….but as many wrote, the pics Rhea shared were far different than these, she looked prettier there…these show a worn out look.

  32. she was a great look by sonam! loved this bold piece! the only thing is that it seems like her normal makeup artist didn’t go with her to cannes or something, cause her makeup was somewhat off!

  33. I cannot believe no one has commented on how Dallas/80s this is! All she needs are padded shoulders.
To be fair – this is so horrid its as though a gaint toffee wrapper invaded the red carpet.

  34. Make up…..oh the makeup…..so terrible……looks wayyyy to tacky…..like something one would wear in the 80’s (ref Jay May :))
