In Nishka Lulla

Wearing a cropped top and skirt by Nishka Lulla, Sonam attended a recent movie screening. A side braid, LV monogrammed tote and MICHAEL Michael Kors flats completed her look.

While we can picture the outfit on someone like Sameera, didn’t quite think Sonam pulled it off… This was one of those rare misses from Ms. Kapoor, not feeling the look on her at all. And that tote… You know how we feel about thaat.

  1. Really? I think Sameera can’t pull it off actually. This is a cool, casual, bare minimum makeup and chappals look from Sonam and I think she looks really good. The bag could have been different I agree but it’d not a disaster.

    • Agree! I think Sameera would be the last person who could have pulled this one off. Sonam looks great. Definitely not a disaster.

  2. This made me miss my grandma sorely. She looks almost exactly like this when she comes out from bathroom after taking shower – with a blouse and petticoat. Only yhing is she doesn’t wear flats in there.

    • Same here. It looks great. Nice for a movie night – comfy. But that tote has to go! It screams for a boho/ hobo bag. I didn’t think Sonam would have a LV monogrammed bag !!

  3. The look works, it’s pretty trendy yet understated.

But what doesn’t work is this – Sonam carries a $3000 handbag yet still carries her cell phone in her hand. What is in her bag then? This is a consistent thing in many “off-duty” Bollywood pap pics, Sonam included.

    Why?

  4. I would say for a change she isn’t trying hard and looks good. It works when you don’t try hard to look all fashionista like she usually does. The bag is atrocious regardless of how much it costs. The LV’s in Vanilla are a significantly better sight then these.

  5. A blouse and petticoat stitched out of a hospital curtain or a pillow cover material makes way into Sonam’s wardrobe and suddenly its all WOWWW!!

We need to get real sometimes.

  6. this is what happens when you emulate western trends blindly. because the cropped top and skirt is in in the west, a designer replicates here, forgetting entirely the local cultural resonances — which is what causes us to remember grandmas coming out of the bath without draping the saree… when WILL indian designers learn to work in our own context?

  7. Urgh! Another horrible fashion-studenty type outfit from Nishka, both her and Masaba need to opt for alternative career paths…

  8. See that’s why Sonam is not Sameera. Sameera dresses up purely to please the blog but Sonam doesn’t care. She knows that outfit and that bag will get PnP to comment negatively but what the heck.

I have to say she looks great just by virtue of the fact that she’s not dressed in an OTT costume.

  11. Kaamwali bai style zindabad. Seriously! Kudos to Sonam for making this look good or may be its always been a great look and we never saw it. It looks like the moonsipalty school hottie, cropped her shirt and went to audition as an extra. Nothing wrong with that!

    • Aaaaaargghhhh. When? When will we learn to read the comment before clicking submit? Seriously. Enough with the elitism. We get it. You are uber rich, studied in an uber expensive school. If only they taught you better sense.

      • People seem to be confusing ‘dressing well’ with ‘dressing rich’. So what if we drew inspiration from our kaamwalis? Must we constantly channel our inner Alexa Chung (and the like)? The open insults thrown at women belonging to the lower rung of the society is most obnoxious.
Btw, is moonsipalty some confounding wordplay that means more than just municipality? :-/

    • Kind of late, but I have not said anything negative about the lower classes, in fact I have always felt maids dress better that the madams in their blingy saris. This is exactly a municipality school uniform, cropped short. Usually tailored on the cheap, they don’t fit well and are exactly this shade. A designer dress should fit better, be tailored better. Its not a criticism of municipality schools (and their hotties), its a critique of Nishka. You do agree that there are hotties in municipality school just as there are hotties in Ecole Mondiale?

  12. I would have paired the top with khadi pallazo pants, skipped the oversized ugly bag, added some coral earrings and chunky bracelet ….and changed the shoes to espadilles
