Sonam attended the Fashion Trust Arabia Awards in Doha today wearing a pale pink Anamika Khanna sari and jacket with jewellery from her mom’s line, Sunita Kapoor.
While I loved that she opted for a sari and traditional jewellery, the sari color was so delicate that the jewellery felt a) excessive, b) jarring and as a result of it, the outfit felt too costumey.

Givenchy seems to be the inspiration for this. She just toned down the size of the earrings. Even though it’s more for the ramp/ editorial etc, I like it. Why play safe and be regular all the time?

Oh God ! What happened here ? I think Sonam is trying way to hard to stand out and unfortunately does not seem to enjoy it. She looks tired and worn out too . I can empathize with her on feeling exhausted & working non stop buhhhh no excuse to do injustice to a lovely outfit and lovely jewels , this is a complete downer.

Please don’t tell me she got an award at this event? I think it’s time to call it out for what it is…Sonam is no longer a fashionista. When your “looks” turn into gimmicks over a period of time, it means you have lost the plot.
As for Anamika Khanna – there was a time AK was genuinely celebrated in these pages. Now AK’s designs look like a poor caricature of the former glory.
Quite agree about the evolution of AK designs. Compare this to the pale pink surreality Sonam wore at Cannes and this doesn’t stand a chance. Her latest AK-OK collection, though personal and poignant, fails to invoke that erstwhile feeling of contemporary cuts mixed with the finesse of couture and heritage.
This girl is truly lost in her quest to be a fashionista which she clearly is not. The sari is lovely and would have left without her making it gimmicky.
I think this is a critique of fashion and consumption culture. Surely it can’t be fashion itself.

This Indo-Westertn fusion has everything going wrong for it. On an International stage why be a HYBRID. Either go western or showcase India. This jacket over a saree reduces it to an ill fitting gown . An exhibitionist jewellery over that. Unless she was a cloth horse in the function and walking the ramp this kind of statement is plain whimsical!.

Could have easily skipped on earrings or some better set of earrings could have worked better. This particular earring looks cheap tbh.
MaangTika is an underrated accessory and deserves more on international red carpet event. It looks divine here.
Bindi is sooo awkwardly aligned. I so much want to tilt it to perfect center.
In short, she wanted to go full desi funky, but went a little overboard. But still she makes it work. Also, representing India in Indian wear is always a bliss.

Believe it or not, that is not a crooked bindi. That is a part of that elaborate contraption on her head. Other instagram pictures show that better.
YASSSS GO SONAM!! love the whole ensemble!! it’s one of the biggest fashion events, why should she do regular things?! and fashion’s supposed to be fun and creative and she’s doing exactly that! and she always hits home with the jewelry! so much LOVE for this look!

Recently I commented that Sonam is fashion and that she always brings something to the table and goes the extra mile, in other words, now I see everyone ripping her apart and calling her EXTRA hahaha I can understand because the get-up is really clownish. What were they thinking, she and Rhea ? The last appearance was nice. They appropriate the tag fashion queen for themselves, in a way, then they present jokerish looks that a lot of people tear them apart for and seem frothing at the mouth.. Let people confer that tag of fashion queen. Aah ! And whenever we do, we look like fools
I dont know what i hate more – that fugly coat, the gimmicky headress or the dull brown/bronze makeup!! sad! i used to look forward to Sonams appearances, now i just cringe over this self-inflicted embarrassment!

If she had just ditched that jacket she may have saved this look. I am biased, I know, but I love the jewelry and the delicate saree as a combo.
For the school youth festival, sometimes the girls participating in the Bharathanayam dance competition will come all dressed up from their home itself. Most of the time, they will be casually using their dressing robes on top of the elaborate Bharathanayam costume, but yet we know from their elaborate jewelry that they are participants of the competition. It looks like Sonam is all anxiously waiting for her code number to be called upon to go on to stage and dance away. In fact, she look so authentic as a classic dancer, she should give some serious thoughts about it.
She should have just worn the sari without the coat and gone for a more flattering maang tika.
No matter what the colour of the saree (delicate or otherwise), all this needless jewellery would have still made the look a) excessive, b) jarring and c) too costumey.
Personal opinion but I think such a heavy matha patti looks good only when there is a dupatta draped over the head
Now don’t go around giving her ideas. At her next appearance. we will see the dupatta, man tikka, the coat, bigger double sleeves and evern more jewelery. After all she is the Queen of Extra.
Can someone expertly Photoshop her hair silver and retain the middle parting? I’m just curious how it would look overall. The black hair is throwing everything off.
