In Anamika Khanna

Comment image 97

Sonam went Grecian at the green carpet of the main awards ceremony in this one-shouldered Anamika Khanna dress that she paired with heavy Kundan necklaces, a Choo clutch and gold gladiator sandals. The end result, we have to say, was gorgeous and we loved it!

P.S. Can someone buy me that choker necklace!

Check out new pictures from the IIFA 2009 Fashion Extravaganza at The Gallery.

  1. aaah – saving the best for last is it! i think this brngs out the best in her features and hides what might be the best..i love the kundan pairing.. though not sure if it needs both..maybe just the necklace and not the choker..

as far as the feet showing..in 2 minds about that..maybe a little bit longer drape wise wud have been better?

  2. Loved the necklaces!!! Oooh, what a statement they make… She takes the dress to a whole new level. I did not like the length at the first go, but it works for the Grecian look.

  3. One look at the bottom and I cringed. While I have no problem with the Toga look but gladiators on a red carpet is so not working for me. She looks pretty and the jewelery works but over all this is one of her failing attempts I would say. The length of the toga is wrong for an event like this.

  4. Good this is a way better… I like

this is good enough for me to forgive her for her disater on Fashion Extravaganza runaway :P…

still gonna take some time to say I “love”…

but yea…. this is gorgeous piece of chocker…

  5. I don’t know, I’m just not feeling this at all. I hate that she put it in a knot at the bottom, and gladiator flats are just NOT appropriate for the ocassion. I love her jewelry though.

  6. Are you sure it’s a dress…..i feel it’s fabric draped that way coz of the folds at the waist. Needless to say she looks gorgeous!

  7. Hi! Can you please tell me what kind of necklace it is? I mean is it kundan or polki? It is gorgeous. Must be from her mom’s store.

    • Aarthi,
Its Kundan. Polki are the uncut-diamonds that go into the kundan setting.

      S,
For a lack of a better word, I used dress. Toga might be a better term…

  8. she looks fabulous. Wearing both necklaces and no other accessories, gives the look a WOW effect. The gladiators work big time, wearing heals would have ruined the dress. She really know how to put things together.

  9. The knot, the crumpled bedsheet, the gladiators do not work. I think she could have done much better.

On the bright side, the kundan jewelry looks gorgeous.

  10. ok.. bad bad choice again.. problems – again not ironed, dress length oh so not appropriate, not a glam look- more cocktail lounge, need heels not flats – is this a beach event?.. neck up, shes fab!

  11. only one word comes to my mind STUNNING…absolutely stunning..i dnt wanna compare bt looks at her tats a true fashionista ..i think she looks more indian than PC in the saree..love her looks

  12. i do think the gladiators with the grecian dress is verging on costumey. they might have worked if the dress were longer and the gladiators were not on full display. that beign said, she is gorgeous and impeccable ankles up :-)

  13. Gorgeous jewelry but have to say that she went TOO literal with the look, could hv easily ditched the glads. But anywayz not a fan of the dress, awkward (for want of a better word) material!

  14. i loveeeeeeeee!!! not too sure about the gladiators. wish she got creative with that too. but never the less, I loveee! who woulda thought!
(im still mad at her for messing up a manish arora – seen earlier – though)

  15. sonam is just fabulous. I think this look totally works: the ethnic chic dress the DELICIOUS jewellery, the clutch. She is totally rocking this look

  16. Would have been perfect if the dress were a little longer and the shoes were different. But she looks darn pretty.

And whoever is buying the choker for P; please also buy one for me :)

  17. Despit this being wonderfully put together I can’t bring myself to like the girl.I think she tries too hard;like she’s trying to hold an image up rather than having fun with fashion…it comes through in most if not all of her outfits…barring films

  18. sonam looks gorgeous! she truly has amazing style. My first impression when I saw her was that she is channeling a sanyasi look. The traditional jewellery, the wrap around cloth with saree type gold border and the knot give a very earthy look. Only when I saw the shoes, I realised she may be wearing a toga.

  19. I looooooooove it!!!
She does take the dress to a whole new level .. only one thing .. IMO, a little longer dress could have looked even more amazing because she’s wearing flats..
On an aside, those necklaces are jus so gorgeous!!!

  20. wat was she tryin to do!!! hhaha wrap a bedsheet around herself at a GREEN CARPET EVENT and call that fashion!! she is crossing the limits and fallin everytime!! nothing goes!! and that sort of footwear for something like this!!! she gives me jokes!!

Sonam is fashion forward and is daring and experimental…
Her mom’s jewellery are simply stunning! Love both!

  22. The makeup and jewelery is excellent but that toga/ dress/ Grecian/ Gandhi-an whatever she was going for is terrible and frankly I am getting a wee bit tired of the whole ” Only she can Pull it off” thingy.

  23. The whole look makes Sonam look so clean and fresh. A few jasmine flowers in her hair would have been perfect. Very beautiful look already.

  24. It’svery interesting and unique. I lvoe that she took the risk.
I have to say though, WEAR HEELS, who ARES if you look seven feet tall, EMBRACE IT. Heels will fix everything on most of her outfits that don’t work, she should wear them more often.

  25. she looks so different from the rest and in such a GOOD way, its a timeless beauty look, love it.
Just hate the waist down, looks unfinished.

    but still nice.

  26. You guys are hilarious with your Sonam bias. This outfit looks like a hot mess – did you see the bottom of it, the fabric, the weird one sleeve? The shoes do not flatter her feet – they look huge. The clutch is too formal for this look not to mention ugly.

If anyone else had worn this outfit there would be hell to pay.

She looks lovely from the neck up. The necklace is beautiful.

  27. omg omg omg!!!! love love lo-ove the necklace!!! where can one get that? where is it available?? really….mewants!
and sonam looks gorgeous….but she is gettin a bit boring on the way that she is wearing white and offshoulder gowns adn the same sorta hair…remmeber filmfare….anyone?

  28. @Carol; you make me laugh with ur negativity towards Sonam. Just cause some people like her look doesn’t mean they are biased. Stop with the preachy notes, if you don’t like the look. State it and move on..serously! Too much geativity on HHC these days..

strange, my thoughts were just the opposite :) … i always find her effortlessly chic … she is actress that has fun with her clothes and doesn’t have one set style (eg diya who always just looks ‘pretty’, nothing more nothng less)..

i love her here .. its fun , its young, its not really done before .. she is not sticking to a boring MM saree or a safe sabyasachi.. she hasn’t tried to go the other popular way by having her assets spill out with plunging necklines, bare backs and weird drapes …. i just love her ….

but then i am biased .. i pretty much love averything she wears .. i wish i was that cool :P

  30. Gosh she is so fabulous! She always tries new things and isn’t afraid to take risks. Took me a while to get this look but I think Sonam’s the only one who could pull this off. And Iam so totally in loveeeeeeee with that choker necklace!!!!!!

    Reply
  31. I agree with carol, the only thing i like abt this look is the choker, everything else is a disaster.. it screams ‘ I am tagged a fashionista, so I better wear something risque’

    Reply
  32. honestly guys, do you seriously like the way she is looking here?? I think the dress looks awful – it’s definitely NOT something I would wear to a formal awards function.. and the jewellery.. yeah its pretty but honestly all kundan chokers look pretty much like that – the design isn’t anything special or unique. I personally don’t think two necklaces were necessary.

  33. I love her! And i love what she is wearing too. If only people didnt constantly critique this poor girl. ;)

Oh and i HAVE to mention, like i have done a 100 times, Sonam is gorgeous!

  34. glads on the green carpet?
black python clutch with a traditional looking ensemble?
wrong length (for the green carpet)
    dhoti like material/onam saree

sorry but there are several fashion faux pas in there!
and its strange no one sees them :O

  35. even though she MIGHT be trying too hard to stay a fashionista. I love her. She’s so classic. Her face is just superbly stunning. All she needs to do is to tone down a little, starting with arms, and she’ll be fine. The outfit would not even be considered by any other celeb, but she did it and she did it well.

  36. also, sonam needs to give up on anamika now. I mean she’s western with an indian touch, but so what? can’t she try pure Indian once in a while? like Manish malhotra sari’s, the way PC wears it. She’d look classic. Or even ritu kumar. Im waiting for that day….sigh.

  37. No doubt she looks absolutely stunning, and she has an inherent style, but i’m afraid to say that this ‘dress’ and the rest from this collection seem to have been ‘heavily inspired’ by a recent Hermes collection!! Come on, but when are our Indian designers going to get original!!! Such a disgrace.

  38. Neck up – superb. Her face looks stunning, her makeup is really nice, the necklaces and hair = perfect. Now for the rest. While I appreciate the different attire from the usual plunging necklines and backs and one draped boobs I just think that she took this TOO literally. Glads for a major event like this are *wompwomp* (N) unless she has some kind of foot injury or something. Also the length is just NOT right. This should be tagged a “Not Quite” unfortunately.

  39. i wish the dress had been longer..i hate the fact that the gladiators are so visible and LOVEEEEEEEEEE the jewelerry.i so envy sonam.i wanna raid her wardrobe

  40. The dress is actually by Dubai based designer, Ayesha Depala. Sonam has confirmed she would be wearing Ayesha Depala at IIFA. Jewelry is designed by her mother, Sunita Kapoor.

  41. I love this girl for her “Dare to be different” attitude!! Love her for always trynna experiment!! She looks like a million bucks!!

  42. i really love her hairdo….it suits her so well. and the make up makes her look youthful and fresh..and the jewellry is divine..love kundan. the dress is not something everyone could carry off but Sonam is doing a very good job of it. my only gripe is the shoes…i agree…gladiators on red carpet??? not very appropriate. It kind of makes the whole look very casual.

  43. are you people serious? What is good here except the jewelry? Perhaps the fancy dress grecian overkill is good, or the sorry excuse for a toga style that has a hemline that looks like a first year design student’s job? It’s terrible!

  44. I don’t like it….awesome jewellery, make-up and hair-do…but I keep looking at her dress and thinking of mahatma gandhi..someone pass her a lathi…it’ll complete the look

  45. cant say how much i love this whole look
i’d give her the best dressed at the event by a mile just because she really tried to do something rather than go for a safe choice
i always think it’s a good thing when one or two ppl dont like or agree with wht u’re wearing because it means you dare to experiment and not everyone likes everything

this look is innovative, stylish and sooo much fun

    Reply
  46. n yes the fabric quality is a major put off. defintely not red carpet. i don’t think we’d ever see this as a red carpet outfit in hollywood

    Reply
  47. She looks like a Greek goddess, I think she is one of the most chic and fashionable women in Bollywood…I mean, who would think of pairing a kundan set with gladiators? and make it look damn good!

    Reply
  48. I just adore how daring she is. She doesn’t give a damn about trends, or anything, puts together everything experimentally and ends up looking GORGEOUS:)
She is definitely has the most unique style in the industry, altho as an actress she has a long way to go(only my opinion), no one can deny her one-of-a-kind sense of style.
As for her look, love everything, especially the choker, her appearances on red carpet, good or bad, are like a breath of fresh air…

  49. she’s trying way too hard. sorry, I know that usually she looks good, but trying too hard to be different makes her look and FYI for all those who think she dresses herself – HA. major stylist at work here.

    Reply
  50. Her hair, makeup and jewelry are perfect…but the dress looks like more like the tradition bengali drape of sari (do a image search for “bengali sari drape” and you will know what I mean)…rather than grecian…huh!

  51. Lurve the tri-strand necklacs!! Sonam looks fab as usual. I hate gladiator sandals though so can our desi fashionistas pls STOP wearing them!!

    Reply
  52. I agree, its a bit of bias here for Sonam…

seriosuly too many wrong things as mentoned above..and I like the way it was referred to as Grecian-Gandhian –

-so is it a dress, toga or bedsheet?
-again, glad flats on “red” green carpet …really???
-feet showing at a “red” green carpet (I cant seem to say green carpet when trying to describe the fashion faux pas,its sounds better said as disaster on red carpet, than disaster on green carpet – it has more weigh..lol)
    – ok so theres a Grecian – Gandhian look, with Kundan jewellery (which as said above is gorgeous, but it alll looks the same at the end of the day) with a European-ish Old English-y hairdo, and python clutch in Macau (ok, location doesnt mtter, but helps accentuate how messy this is)= messy and disastrous
seriously you guys like this? or just plain bias?

although brownie points for wearing soemthing never done before, and jewellery is nice..

  53. she looks stunning!! absolutely stunning jewellery! love the way she experiments…..truly a fashionista! of course there is a stylist at work here but look at all the other stylist disasters flaoting around =)

  54. Sonam looks really pretty. You have to give her marks for trying something totally unique. On the other hand the dress is very awkward (especially the bottom) and looks more like a toga and less like a classy/beautiful Grecian dress. The gladiators are just WRONG….you might as well be carrying a battle shield and a sword to complete the look.
    The necklaces are genius.

  55. I think Sonam is a very pretty girl and looks lovely in this dress. While I love the jewellery not very sure I like the 2 necklace combo in this particular case…but have you guys seen the L’Oreal White perfect ad? Something reallly wrong with her look there!

  56. She looks gorgeous and what perfect dressing….she looks like a style diva. But the dress does remind me of Hermes Dresses. Copy cat

  57. Ok this girl gets it right! Great dress even if its a copy (why would Anamika copy Hermes – that takes guts!). Nice glads! Though 2 necklaces couldve been avoided. But overall 9/10. The only one in Bwood who has some edge! Maybe Twinkles the other but shes hardly in Bwood anymore.

    • Aarthi,
Real Kundan has actual uncut diamonds and cost Lakhs of rupees based on the number of diamonds used. Semi-expensive Kundan sets, cost less because they are silver based (with gold polish) and use glass instead of stone.

  59. all said and done i think it takes balls to carry off a dress like that and to hell with the rest of the world i lover her funky gold flats

  61. I am a great fan of Anamika Khanna’s but at the same time I’d completely give it to Sonam Kapoor for the kundan choker & necklace and the gladiators and ofcourse her hairdo. Love the look! Sonam seems to have imbibed all that style from her father !
