Sonam attended the HT Most Stylish Awards wearing a dress by Paris based label, Hyun Mi Nielsen. By now, we’ve come to expect Ms. Kapoor to always deliver something OTT especially when it comes to such high-profile events and she definitely did that.

But, except for the color and the Aquazzura sandals, I really didn’t like the dress. Oddly, it wasn’t that sleeve that did it for me. The deal breaker for me were those darts creating a conical bust. An homage to 90s it may have been but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. Also, I didn’t think the diamond jewellery worked with the color. Maybe something in gold would’ve worked better.

  1. The cones are comical, neither the fabric nor the color is working on her and not to mention that favorite hairstyle of hers that subtracts the youthful aspect in her appearance.

  2. At first glance I don’t like those loose threads. The conical bust doesn’t bother me as much. Overall the dress is nice. I like it. But as I look more closely, more than the threads, I think it’s her make-up/hair that is bothering me most. Overall I don’t like the look!

  3. That dress is comical!! I do understand that she wanted to go for “different” and OTT but how can she pair that make up with that dress – especially that lip color. It clashes with the color of the dress and the color of the shoes (both of which are eye searing!). For me, nothing works from head to toe.

  6. It seems the darzi who was sewing the dress didn’t have much time to finish it!.. overall finishing of the dress is bad…n m not taking about the threads…

  7. Of course you do not expect SK to show up in a regular LBD. But some of these designs are funny. Given the sleeve and its side-cape, is she supposed to crabwalk the entire event? For what it is worth, she makes it work as far as that is possible.

  9. I genuinely enjoy Sonam taking risks with fashion because she’s always game to throw a ‘curve ball’. This however, is what I call ‘malfunctioning’ in so many levels. I am so disappointed. On the upside, I do like that shade of yellow, and the jewels.

  11. I imagine this with clean minimal makeup, slick back hair, no jewellery and stilletos (not this kitten heel bullshit) like a model on the runway and it might have worked. Rn she looks like a fashion victim

  15. I have seen better pics.. but in the red carpet pics the dress looks awful. Its s terrible fit actually lifting up at the front like on a 6 year old. I dont mind the sleeve or the darts but i cant fathom why someone would walk out with loose threads hanging out in the name of fashion?

  18. The bottom of her dress looks like her evil twin sister ripped it off while the one shoulder whatever that is looks so gruesome like a one winged dragonfly. On top of that her make up looks mature in contrast to her girlie yellow dress and those lizard green heels. Uff trainwreck from head to toe.

  19. Hey Rhea, love your styling work, misses are a part of everyone’s life. Here’s some feedback-

    Sonam looks short here due to the dress style & size and different styling elements (despite being so tall). To lengthen the look-

    1. Change hairstyle to a top knot or high pony or faux bob.
    2. Change the shoes to thin-strappy sandals, instead of ankle straps
    3. Remove choker. No necklace, it’ll make the neck& torso appear short with such a neckline
    4. If you’re craving jewellery, add subtle earrings
    5. Instead of baby pink lipstick, a soft nude or burnt orange
    6. For an A-lined dress, always keep legs together when posing, otherwise make one look wider

  22. More than the dress its Namrata Soni’s white plaster makeup that isn’t working. The dress is passable, we’ve seen close if not similar outing from her before with sleeves that suffer elephantiasis so meh, why repeat same OTT shape again. I think her problem is her stylist. Maybe its time Rhea steps away as her stylist and maybe Tanya can take on the job again like before. Rhea does better with Kareena’s styling to be honest.

  24. Parisian label it may be but this is tres terrible. Sonam’s style has become comical for the sake of different. She won’t wear a label, which is well known in India, which is great coz we all get to know about those labels too. But these kind of looks – shorts with blazers and side capes etc. are just not elegant. She doesn’t have to be boring about all this but atleast bring some personal style element to the look. Not just a dress or some such from an unheard of label should suffice, at this point. And if that’s all that being brought about then that’s no fashionista.

  29. The upper waist just below the bust needed to be cinched to give the top half more definition. Frayed edges detract from the look. The make up is off. It needed a stark solid Color belt and similar shoes to make it work. Necklace was very unnecessary.

I wonder sometimes, if Sonam is sort of trapped – having created this avant garde fashionista image, where does she go next? can she ever wear something even halfway normal – when she began, she was one of the first to showcase serious haute couture, now so many of the celebs are doing this, so she needs to keep ratcheting up the OTTness.
