An Almost Ditto!

We don’t know if it was a coincidence or if Ms. Kapoor took inspiration from Ms. Parker, but because we don’t have full length pics of Sonam, can’t say for sure if Sonam did Sarah one better in the footwear department. (She sure did in the bag area.)

Sarah wore a Stella McCartney lace dress while Sonam wore an Ayesha Depala dress with an Helmut Lang jacket and a Ferragamo clutch.

Thanks to ‘pragya, star, chris and alisha’ for the SJP tip-off.

  1. a coincidence? i guess not !
well sarah’s bag and shoes are singing a different tune, absolutely not in sync with the dress !
    Loving sonam’s bag ! YUMM! :)

  2. she’s copied the olsen twins before so i doubt that this is a coincidence. esp considering the colour, texture, fabric, shape and veen the jewels all are the same.

  3. Sonam needs to learn that less is more. That bag was not needed at this event. She looks ridiculous holding the bag and trying to display the phone for product endorsement.

BTW, I’m not a fan of copying someone else’s look. She needs to develop her own style and stop trying so hard to be a fashionista. I don’t find her interesting anymore.

    • I never did. if ppl payed attention she doesnt dress for mood she dresses for the various images she wishes to portray and its quite ridiculous. The only reason she comes off put together (barely, put together is when what u where goes with who u are and enhances it not image portrayal and desperate attempts at that) is because she has the sense to know who to copy and the resources to do so.

        • I too believe that she always looks like she’s trying too hard to present herself as the desi equivalent to SJP, Paris Hilton or Posh. The effortless grace with which women like Twinkle Khanna, Lara Dutta or her contemporaries like Kangana Ranaut or Genelia D Souza carry themselves seems to be sorely lacking in Sonam.

  4. hmm..i wore a mini dress with a blazer and pearls just yesterday and i couldnt care less about sjp, sonam always dresses like herself. FAB.

  5. I doubt very much that SJP would be taking inspiration from Sonam! Thats laughable, just goes to show that Sonams a bit of a copycat really. I never feel very convinced by the looks she trys out, she def. has a way to go before she discovers her own style. She’ll learn, shes still v. young.

  6. i think i prefer the ayesha depala lace dress…BUT this is so not a good thing…for sonams stylist…the dearth of individuality…and these people are the supposed new breed of trend setters..tch tch..SAD..

  7. Looks like a clear case of inspiration, not coincidence. Would be nice if Sonam had added a little bit of her own creativity to the look. This looks a bit wannabe.

    Overall more points to Sonam..

  9. hmmm..now sonam’s look doesn’t look original.

Before I’d seen SJP’s pic, I thought what a great idea to pair that dress with that jacket..!

  10. Copycat. She always imitates hollywood crownd but never looks as good. Sonam does not have the glamour or X factor to carry it off well. Most people ooh aah the designer labels but what should be edgy comes off looking bad and out of place off the runway.

  11. Lace dresses and Nude Blazer are ‘IN’ this S/S, so its more of a coincidence that you see two people wearing something very similar. Sonam’s only fault is that SJP wore it before her, so it becomes ‘copied’ or ‘inspired’. Seems to me that people are taking the tag ‘fashionista’ more seriously than Sonam herself. Whether she is or not, is debatable but she def is one of the best dressed actors in BW! So more power to you, Sonam.

    • Oh Yeah???…and how about the ‘folded up’ sleeves of the jacket???…. and the multi-strand pearls? Are they “IN” too this season?

What a coincidence to see all the “IN” things compiled together the same way by both girls.

Come on, if it smells like a copy, looks like a copy, walks like a copy, it IS a copy.

    • I second you. People are getting way too jealous and critical. I hate criticism for the heck of it and this is exactly that. This is not plagiarism..! She liked SJP’s look, she did something similar. These people make it sound like some kind of offence. Pathetic, really.

      • If it was anyone else I think we wouldnt mind so much but Sonam is having us belive she’s a trend setter is annoying when shes just copying others.

          • I dont really understand how she can deny it, I mean what could she say, don’t believe the media when they call me fashionable, because I once wore an outfit that was heavily inspired by SJP, except that I accesorized better? :P I dont really think that we should take the ‘fashionista’ tag that seriously. You could say the same thing about every Hollywood celebrity who is tagged fahsionable and uses a stylist, which most of them do (that they should deny it, I mean)

  12. Her stylist or SHE is definitely watching the western Celebs…the styling is DITTO and the depala dress is very much inspired by SJP’s…wow!!

    • Totally agree about the entire look being a complete copy of SJP’s but as for the dress, I dont agree. I have an Ayesha Depala dress practically the same that i bought two years ago. I guess its her version of the lbd, and something she has been doing for years. apparently she does a version each season.

  13. so what?! just coz she wore a lace dress with a jacket makes her a copycat?! SJP did not invent that look. and FYI sonam also wore a grey jacket look to an event right after this one. she kept both looks similar coz both were for the spice mobile.

  14. Well even if its an insipration or copying..the truth is sonam carried it off so well.. and as most agreed here much better than SJP.. and I guess thats what matters… dont we all take inspiration from the “Look of the season” columns, how our favorite stars dress….

      • She isn’t selling this as her own design, so I don’t see what the big deal is. SJP is an international fashion icon, Sonam liked her look and tried to recreate it. I really don’t understand why that is such a crime.
Sure its not her own style, but so many celebritries have no style sense of their own and rely entirely on stylists. I agree with the commentors who think the fuss is ridiculous.
Its ironic that so many of the commentors think that Sonam is taking her fashionista tag too seriously, because its really the commentors who are taking it too seriously and judging her harshly because of it.

        • I agree. She is not a designer that we should call her copy cat. She is just recreating a style, she probably liked and pulled it off so well.
          Why is that a crime!

    • Exactly… how many of us don’t take inspiration from a look we’ve seen? It isn’t like Sonam is a designer who’s trying to pass off a plagiarism as her own. Is every actress in skinny jeans and heels also a copycat then? After all, how does a trend become a trend? When someone sees something nice and carries it forward, no?

This kind of criticism of her for just wearing a look is just too harsh, when it should be reserved for that parade of “creative” people at the recent Fashion weeks who’ve been passing off stale tired cliches as their own designer clothes.

How do we give them so much leeway for churning out the same Sh*t year on year, and when an actress tries something like this, she’s slammed to hell and back!

      Reply
      • She is being slammed because some people do not like that she is called a fashionista, style icon, best dressed etc etc by the media. Since they don’t like it this is a golden opportunity to let that displeasure be known. It’s guilty pleasure to call someone you dislike a “copy cat” LOL!

  15. dont care if sonam copied the look coz she looks lovely…
btw though im a big fan of SJP i just noticed…. whts wrong with her legs… y do they look kinda dehydrated ???

  16. So what.. who cares.. she looks far, far better than SJP.. the clutch is to kill for.. am very sure her shoes would also be better. I have myself worn such an outfit without any ‘inspiration’ .. its not a unique look

  17. I agree,a lace shift with a jacket is not SJP’s revolutionary idea!!
Albeit similar, lace is everywhere,so are flesh tones and on getty Sonam has made another appearence with her blazer sleeve rolled up,I see it all the time, again not an exclusive statement for SJP!

  18. oohh snap! didn’t think anyone would catch this major faux pas. also.. she needs to get her eyebrows done.. its getting a little out of control.

  19. Well i guess SJP is her style icon. Sonam adapts the look well…i like her choice of clutch…wish the photo had her footwear pairing as well. Sonam def has an edgey style…and yes she maybe a slave to labels (which BW actress is NOT eh?) but she does add her own personal flair…and i like the way she keeps re-inventing her look…isn’t that the true measure of a fashionista?

  20. Isnt SJP twice Sonam’s age… and yet still so FAB!! I always feel that even when Sonam looks nice it comes across like she tries too hard with everything she does…if its ‘in’ she has to wear it…

  21. The same color boyfriend blazer, the same color dress, the necklace.. it isn’t a coincidence. And maybe it isn’t Sonam who copied but her stylist? She still looks better than SJP!

    Reply
  22. Hey…those rolled-up sleeves are a part of the “boyfriend blazer” as it is known in my parts…you don’t need to copy that…whatever said and done,Sonam comes across as very well put together..inspired or not.

  23. I think the reason why people are crying foul, is sonam goes out of her way to promote herself as an original trendsetter, someone different from the crowd.
And if you think this promotion is only ‘created’ by the media, then you are not crediting sonam with enough sense. Today’s stars are very market-savvy and know exactly how to pitch themselves. Every outfit choice of hers is yet another step in building that image. Not that its a bad thing!
So yes, it is a disappointment when you find that the person you’ve admired for having the guts to wear the looks she does and pulling them off successfully, is well…heavily inspired.

She COULD have added a twist to the SJP-inspired outfit…added her own touch, like nicole richie does. She didn’t even do that.

  24. Sonam Kapoor is looking much better then her. Sarah Jessica Parker is just looking very very old. This out fit do not suit her at all.
