Over the weekend, Telugu actor Allu Arjun got engaged to Sneha Reddy. The bride-to-be opted for a beautiful pink Sabyasachi kanjeevarm sari to wear to the ceremony. Beautiful. Congratulations to the couple!

P.S: Yes, Sabya makes kanjeevarams too. Check out his Vasanthalaxmi collection if you can. :)

  1. She does look stunning. This is the second outfit she wore to the ceremony. Was the first (a green sari) also the same designer. Love how she kept in minimal & well accessorized.

Wish bunny would also be a little better dressed to complement her, but they do make a charming couple. god bless xoxo

  2. he looks really odd….could it be the lack of tilak on his forehead? Anyways thanks to this article i know that he is engaged :[ and that sabya sachi makes kanjeevarams :]

my question is why did this girl wear silver jewelry on a sari with no silver? could this be the fashion these days?

        • Sabya’s Vasanth Lakshmi collection was displayed in Elahe, Hyderabad in the first week of November…

They were more than 50 kanjeevarams in various colours… jewellery designed by sabya in gold to match these sarees was also available

    • I did check it out on day one.. It’s gorgeous, old world kancheevarams like the ones my grandma used to own, with typical/exquisite Sabyasachi borders, paired with brocade (think Benarasi/Jamevar) blouses. AWESOME!

  3. HHC, that is a tease….you tell us about Sabysachi and mention his Vasanthalaxmi collection and then NOTHING!! no fair, please find us a link, call Sabyasachi…tell him about your readers…

love the saree, the bride’s “silver” accessories and how radiant she looks. The groom looks homeless…of course that might the be the very look he was after! ;)

    Great post!

  4. She looks very elegant and beautiful. Sabya and Kanjeevaram – this sounds interesting….. can’t wait to see them.

He could have looked a little more groomed.

    Congrats to the pair!

  5. I thought I would never have to say this but Bollywood actors need to learn a lot from Tollywood when it comes to classy weddings. This one was prime example.

For once I didn’t have a hard time figuring out who the bride was and who the groom was and the bride wasn’t drowned out in a tonne of jewelery.

      • Well i love my south indian friends a lot but they dont go OTT for wedding????
A south indian bride’s gold jewelery is equivalent to total GDP of a small country.Have you ever seen a kerela bride? :)
For my SI friends who are reading, you know i love you.

        • that’s because you cannot generalize southies’ dressing style. Telugu folks – especially in the business communities have a very lavish style of dressing that’s not found in others. Kerala bridal attire seems to be very unique – noone in Andhra Pradesh wears that style of gold jewelry, and among affluent telugus, gold was abandoned atleast a couple of decades ago in favor of diamonds, and now jadau and polki are trendy as well. But I cringe everytime someone generalizes south indian dressing, food etc..

  6. I am a little bit on the fence regarding Sabya designing handlooms. No doubt a designer has a hand in how the product looks. But very often his clothes are not terribly different from traditional hand woven stuff. Its good that there is a craft revival of sorts but can we keep in mind that the beauty of these clothes often has less to do with a designer and more to do with the skills of craftsmen who keep at it inspite of the vagaries of the market. It helps to pay tribute to the makers.

If anyone is interested Tradition and Beyond: Handcrafted Indian Textiles has some lovely sarees that came out of weavers collectives and the like. Way better than anything I have seen here-though sadly I don’t think even it improved the lot of weavers.

Chances are the most handlooms (other than Sewa and very few others) that we buy traditional weaves from pay peanuts to the weavers whereas Sabya and other designers make sure the ground root level that works on them is wellpaid. And that is why they are special. Also i know many girls who had absolutely no interest or knowledge of traditional saris until they saw sabya’s name on it.For many girls chiffon and likes are the only saris worth wearing.sad but true.

    • @KS I can’t say what Sabya pays. And I did mention his role in craft revival. However I get a bit annoyed that it is a “Sabya” saree when a large part of it is clearly due to the efforts of craftsmen who keep at it inspite of a lack of interest from the public (and hey we see on this site too the quick branding of handlooms as behenji) and who no matter how fair a designer still earn a pittance. This is true of couture houses too but a Western dress requires heaps more variations on cuts and tailoring than Indian clothes. The designer is therefore strictly not a designer but is more like a brand which allows you to think that well here I get a certain aesthetic that I like. It would be nice if people kept that in mind.

I agree it is definitely a pity that unless Ms Rai sports a Sabya, no one is interested in our own heritage. Even though its quite clear that our traditional dyeing and weaving is far more sophisticated than much of the rest of the world.
