Of Wedding Festivities

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve probably heard of this other big fat wedding celebration taking place in Hyderabad this week. Shriya Bhupal (creator of the Shriya Som label) is getting married to Anindith Reddy on Friday and for her pre-wedding functions, the designer has been keeping it quite interesting by opting more for international labels.

Have a favorite so far?

In Tarun Tahiliani and Elie Saab

  1. Huh?!!!! I had to do a triple take to see those were actually Elie Saab and Valli.
Not sure if it’s the styling or what but they’re not looking like the caliber they should be.

    • A tiara with a RED frilled monstrosity, a necklace cheapening something like Elie Saab! The Ambanis tried to bling their way to a wedding while this one is a failed attempt at a prom-meets-princessy-dressup show!

  2. This looks attrocious. What’s with the styling? Valli, Ashi and Elie Saab all my favorite designers reduced to looking like costumes ;(. I am so sorry for Shriya som, all that money spent on this couture to look this hideous.

  3. I had to scroll up and down so many times to distinguish between first 2 looks. First I thought she just put dupatta and changed up hair style.
Then red look, why is she wearing crown.
Is she queen oh Hyd or something? I think I am living under rock.

  4. I don’t want to be unkind or rude here but my god u have all the money in the world .. best designer outfits but yet no sense of fashion.

The elie saab gown with that diamond tikka is ridiculous !!!
The red Ashi studio gown is super lovely … why ruin it with blending both sides of the world together with Indian jewelry (bad hair) to go with that lovely gown !!!
Such a waste of all labels

  5. Terrible styling. The Tarun Tahiliani stands out because it’s styled better. Thank god he is one designer who keeps his lehengas muted and classy. His embroidery quality is also top notch unlike other designers.

    • Me too. No idea who these people are nor do I care. I guess I know about the Ambani family because I grew up in Bombay. The outfits are pretty but the bride to be doesn’t carry them well, especially the Saab and the Valli.

  7. Lol.. Probably recreating her paper dolls from childhood. Its a wedding though so hope they are happy.

After the plastic ban should ban these fabrics too. Ashi Studio at some point will be a fake sea animal in the ocean.

  9. I think they have consciously chosen mostly international labels to appear ‘different’, but the Tarun Tahiliani’s lehenga is the only one that looks good and styled well.

  10. She is a designer??? Clearly, she has no sense of style or design or fashion from the way she has ruined these designer outfits. Money cannot buy you style and class. Styling and hair are horrible. The girl seems to have graduated from playing princess as we can see from the crown. LOL.
~ Another one living under the rocks and going back there.

    • And why, oh why can’t they just wear a sari? Forget supporting our handloom industry and dwindling traditional weavers, even a Manish Malhotra would be an improvement over these monstrosities. Maybe MM couldn’t bear to come out from under his rock as well.

  11. Loud & silly. Proves 2 points – Any amount of $$$ is not going to buy class & grace. In fact she has ruined some of the clothes by the so called “fusion” looks. And these desi designers don’t have a clue on being a designer. Lol.

  12. The crown pic is just plain ridiculous! The need to wear indian jewelry just beats the heck out of these outfits. She looks lovely in the lehnga.

  13. The Valli in a softer color, and a casual low bun ( like Meghan Markle’s ) and a slim diamond necklace could have looked lovely. The red in both the outfits she wore are too harsh for her skin tone and the Saab is just not the right outfit for her body type.

It’s a pity, with some good styling she could have done really well.

  14. Okay, I am going to crawl back under my rock. Cannot unsee!
I have real respect for #Sonamkishaadi now… cannot help but criticize the atrocious trousseau! So much money, best labels and you pick the worst of the lot.
The first Elie Saab doesn’t look original…looks like cheap lace curtain cloth to me. As someone pointed out above, the only redeeming look is the Tarun Tahiliani which is ironical on all fronts – Indian designer (which she also is) and a lehenga managed to beat all this designer wear. Gowns have already become commonplace in Indian receptions nowadays, I just hope the regular folks stay away from such awful looks!

  15. Wasn’t she engaged to Nagarjuna’s younger son before? I remember the ghastly jewelry from that engagement ceremony. After seeing these pictures, that somehow looks better.

It’s one thing to have money and have no taste. It’s another to call yourself a designer and have no sense of style. Le sigh.

  16. Haha the writer has disdain for those of us unaware of some talentless designer getting married. Yes I was living under a rock and wish you didn’t drag me out of there to expose me to this. And it is okay not to know about someone’s wedding esp since her claim to fame is her family name.

    • Agree.
The only reason she is featured is because of her family name. If she was not born in axri richie rich famous family, I doubt she would have made it as a designer.
Much as I dont want to trash talk a bride but the tasteless display at the big fat weddings is getting nauseating.
Ps: I totally dislike the trend of wearing ( badly stitched) designer gowns at desi shaadis.

    • Also worth noting that PnP made no comments about the various looks except to say they are ‘interesting’ in using phoren labels.

  17. After seeing the Ambani bling show and now this tasteless label-fest, I can appreciate the classy wedding looks that people like Soha Ali Khan gave us.

  18. It’s would be silly if I thought for a minute that she hasn’t worked hard for her money, and I admire women who have reached success at this level. However, there is something not quite right about this event. Too many outfits (three, from what I count) for one event, begins to look tacky in this case. That said, she really doesn’t look that great in most of the outfits, except Tarun Tahiliani lehenga . The jewels look out of place too. The only positive I see is that she did not select ultra blingy outfits, but then, the party has just started.

  19. I understand this is a fashion blog, yet it is hurtful to see people trolling at someone during their wedding. Very sad. We are turning in to the people we hate to see in news everyday, Let’s be compassionate in our criticism and passionate in our praises. Chill folks, the bride is just trying something fun.

It is not easy for her to go through all this after the broken engagement. She is trying to prove that she is ok.

I’m sure she has plenty of yes people around her to tell her she’s gorgeous and she’s doing jussst fine. But when you wear a crown on your head and service the photos to the media then be open to the accolades and brickbats alike..!!

    • There’s no malicious comments on the bride.. just the taste of outfits considering it’s the most valued day of her life.. (assuming so) why make it so circussey.

  20. Now come on you all. This girl has been the subject of a cruel joke. Clearly this girl’s parents and in-laws had already selected all the spectacular jewelry (that fabulous crown included) and when she turned up with these gowns after a weekend trip to Dubai, they were like “Beta, but what about all this jewelry?” So as any sensible girl would do, she decided to pair up these resplendent gowns with the choicest “sets”, “mang tikkas” and “crowns” to produce some truly stunning results. This is like the gift that keeps on giving. Can’t wait to see what other ensembles she comes up with.

  24. Guys seriously, the crown was wore for a masquerade kind of event which was one of the many pre wedding celebrations; I am surprised that p&p did not mention this. While I am not crazy about the bride’s fashion, I am surprised at the amount of vitriol directed at her.
