On The Runway

Ritu Kumar showcased her Couture collection in Delhi with mother-daughter Sharmila (in a lehenga) and Soha (in a sharara gharara) closing out the show. From what we hear, it was Mommy dearest who stole the show with her poise and confidence. Wish we could see more of the outfits though. The two seem to be drowning under the dupattas.

You can catch some of the pieces from her collection inside.

  1. Typical Ritu Kumar, rich fabrics and colours, contrasting textures with tons of vintage inspiration – I love it, and would wear it all in a flash! I read its inspired by Hyderabadi royalty, I hope its available there when I visit next. As For Soha and Sharmila T, poor Soha does pale in comparison to her mother(as usual), maybe she needs to stop copying her look, especially in the hair style department and do her own thing a bit more? I don’t love those dupattas on their shararas, but its still a beautiful design.

    • In Hyderabad, Ghararas are not common anymore so you will have to place an order which can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks or more depending on what kind of work you get done.
I am pretty sure we drove past Ritu Kumar’s boutique in the Banjara Hills area :-) Didn’t get a chance to walk in though :-(

        • Ghararas are very commen in hyderabad! and an essential part of a traditional bridal trousseau, but you’re right its hard to find one off the peg you have to get them stitched. I’ve been to the Ritu boutique in banjara hills many times, whenever I make a visit, but I find the latest collections are slow in coming to Hyderabad, thats what I meant by saying I hope its there when I go next:)

  2. such a busy look and so much fabric…a bride will get lost in all that yardage !!

Soha looks petrified…sharmila looks good as always inspite of the outfit.

  3. well when i first saw sharmila and soha, i sure as hell did not expect to see what came next. her collection is beautiful, and she doesn’t need semi famous people as show stoppers.
everything is so stunning, i love the whole tribal/formal feel of all the clothes. i especially love the last red piece. beautiful beautiful beautiful, i think the next time i am in india i’d be sure to check out ritu kumars showroom.

    • Semi-famous people? Are you being facetious or are you really ignorant about the Indian celebrity scene? It’s been a while since anyone has dared to call Sharmila semi-famous.

    • i think Sharmila Tagore is epitomy of royal elegance & beauty. would u have preferred ‘fully-famous’ ppl like rakhi sawant to have donned this ?

  4. Does anyone else feel that RED hair on Soha is such a No-No????

neways, did not dig the greens and reds on either mum or daughter. (but Sharmila T does come off regal!) I much preferred the black and gold center outfit due to its bold contrast in the 3rd pic.

  5. Sharmila has lost that elegance, she looks more like a Mangeshkar sister. This outfit is not doing much for her age wise, nor stylewise. Not a wise choice. Hema Malini on the other hand, still looks stunning.

    • hmmm. I by elegance you mean “simpering” that Sharmila was known for then yes, she has lost it. About time too. I would not mind looking like a Mangeshkar sister. That is only so much anyone can get close to their unrivaled talent.

  6. Love the collection…But, almost all the collections showcased recently have the jamavarams/dollar bhutta material/rich gold embroided big border…

  7. Love the clothes but too much on Sharmila and Soha as well….they should have toned down one or the other – jewellery or the heavy dupattas.

  8. The collection has beautiful textures, colors, and fabrics. However, the creator should not have meshed all of them in one go for each set. It is a confusion that dilutes the attributes of the whole. For example, the green lehenga set is so pretty. The pretty dupatta black, gold, red is a total mismatch that does not mesh with the whole. A couple of the sets are beautiful.
That being said, if the models had been Hema and her daughter like in an earlier collection by someone else, it might have elevated the whole thing. Neetu and her daughter another good ma and daugher combo. Hema still has that royal quality and can beat any youngster here in beauty and grace.

  9. ehh I don’t like it on both of them. Sure, Sharmila’s face looks charming but the clothes are heavy and not really fitted for Soha or her mom. However, the rest of the collection looks great, esp. the third picture.
