Love the whole Hyderabadi Royals look they are going for..the color co-ordination and contrasts are so effortless here.
color is a saving grace…..also the soft pink chunni instead of a heavy embroidered one balances the whole look beautifully, extra points for not loading up on jewelry and choosing a comparatively lighter set as compared to other Sabyasachi jewelry which more looks like an armor instead of accessory
They both look great, but which place did their wedding happen?
Someone please please please take away this man’s “design” license. Fed up to the gills with his fake royal style obliterating all other Indian styles.
The couples who wear his clothes look happy and ergo good. Congrats.
I am not sure what is wrong with it. Every designer has his/her own niche for designing and Sabyasachi has repeatedly mentioned his love for intricate traditional indian embroideries and ornaments that was heavily favoured by the royals, more specifically by the Mughals. Deepika and Priyanka’s choice of trousseau is something they chose out of all the designers and particularly of all his designs. I must say Saina showed far more maturity by picking and styling hers.
Its easy to be saturated with Sabya since he has been the go to designer for almost all of the high profile weddings in the last one year but do you really want to take away his “license”? He is one of the few original designers who are at the top of their game through sheer merit unlike Manish Malhotra who is more of a costume designer than a fashion designer and AJSK who put on the same garish robes on people over and over again.
Sabya is making Bhansali films in RL. he is his true muse not Indian craftsmen. In no way does that make him a designer. Its worn by celebs and thus perfect for our insta age in creating some kind of aura.
Opulence is the best way to blind people so that they lose any taste perception and Sabya does it well.
I can’t understand what you wrote. “Sabya is making Bhansali films in RL”, the last Bhansali movie he designed for was Guzaarish. Sabya in fact designed the clothes for “English Vinglish” where SriDevi wore 250 rupees sarees. If you go back to when he started designing, handlooms had been banished to the back of the closets, it was all spaghetti blouses and synthetic sarees with material imported from southeast Asia, he brought the old regalia back. Sabya clothes make you look like a Queen, and who would not want that on their wedding day.
India is maximalist, there is nothing wrong with opulence. Sabya is a self-confessed maximalist, and I will take that anyday. Saina looks gorgeous.
To clarify Bhansali in RL it means that he treats clients like some heroine of a Bhansali movie and overloads them. Not whether he designs for movies or not.
No one ever banished handlooms. Maximalist India is much better than Maximalist Sabya. Please look beyond celebs and their designers who operate in a world where publicity is No 1.
The couple look incredibly good and she looks stunning! Love the colors and the workmanship, so pretty. And such a relief to see non whites and creams make a royal comeback :)….
Their outfits are way too matching. As happy as they look, the simpler wedding outfits were much much better.
I like the colour of the lehenga.
they look gorgeous but now am seriously thinking you can’t get married in India unless you Sabya.
Absolutely gorgeous!
She looks gorgeous!
There is no getting away from Sabya!! Lol!!
Wedding = Sabya
They should just rename weddings Sabyasachi. ‘When is the Sabysachi? ‘We are getting sabysachied on the 3rd’.
LOL (A)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE WITTIEST COMMENT EVER ON HHC!! PLEASE KEEP COMMENTING, IT DOES TAKE THE HEAVINESS OUT OF THESE LEHENGA INFUSED WEDDING FINERY
Dont like the Grooms necklace at all. The velvet shawl of the bride seems like an after thought and makes the entire look heavy.
So nice. Please post Ashwini Ponnappa ‘s look from the wedding. She is wearing a traditional Korvai saree and looking so amazing.
Thank you so much for your comment —I thought it was a pochampalli and wouldn’t’ve given it a second thought, but because of your remark I looked it up some more and it’s an exquisite weave with a remarkable history! P&P, please try and post Ashwini’s look and/or more about the Korvai weave?
“In a Korvai saree, the artisan weaves the body and the border of the saree using two different coloured threads simultaneously. The threads of the body and the border are joined in such a manner that one can feel the knot when one runs a finger along the line of the border and the body, he added…..This work needs two persons at a time as three spindles are used in weaving. Naturally, the wage for weaving these sarees is slightly higher than that for an ordinary silk saree. Orders for Korvai sarees, however, are rare and placed by those who are aware of this type of weaving, explained Mr. Krishnamoorthy, a resident of Singaperumal Kovil South Mada Street, Kancheepuram…….In some cases, we only have the names but not even one sample. Several years ago, someone came to me asking for a Durbar saree but I hadn’t seen a sample, even though it was my grandfather who had made one on request from the reception committee that welcomed King George V to Chennai in 1911 after his coronation in Delhi. It was M.S. Subbulakshmiwho showed me a saree when I asked her about it. I still have an old sample and make it for those who want it. The Korvai should not vanish like that. The government should take steps to revive it,” he said.”
Nice hues… sania looked radiant
Congrats to them. They look great. Lovely color.
But I have a question when can one possibly repeat such a heavy outfit again? What would one do with it after the reception?
Congratulations to the happy couple. They have been Sabyasachi-ed, the simpler wedding looks were so good!! They look good though, especially the color scheme is novel. I am grateful for no beige/white/red.
Finally found the wedding inspiration I was looking for! (okay not exactly because we have…yet another Sabya!) Loving the royal blue and so happy to see a colour that’s not red white or gold.
Could you guys pl post Isha Ambani’s reliance parivaar reception look. Although both mother and daughter wore Sabyasachi , but looked ravishing.
If Sabyasachi tried to design the Hyderabadi royals look, then he can’t do it. I hate velvet.
I agree, the colour combination is rare. But all that velvet and design reminds me of, ahem, MM.
Yeah, the color must be selected by them, so credit goes to them. But velvet with some random garish embroidery doesn’t make Hyderabadi royal look. Back in those days of royals, they used to have highly skillful artisans who did the finest work on finest fabrics with finest taste. Even the Nizami jewelry used to be exquisitely crafted which Sabyasachi definitely can’t do it.
Let’s give the man (Sabya) some credit. He’s had a series of high profile weddings to design in the past 12 months, and with this couple, at least he’s tried different colors. Having said that, I’m no fan of this old-world look. These people are young sportspersons, could he not have created something more modern and lightweight?
Sports is their profession, how do you know what their personal taste is like?
I really think we should draw the line at criticizing couples for their wedding sartorial choices. Especially when the couple are not professional celebs or models whose bread and butter depends on how they dress. This is not some tacky Bolly extravaganza or awards show. These are sports personalities, they don’t have the garishness that Bolly celebs have. I think they look radiant and happy and make a great couple. All brides look beautiful on their wedding day and Saina looks no less.
