The groom’s sister, Saba picked an anarkali for the sangeet and a lehenga for the wedding ceremony. Of the two, much prefer her in the lehenga. You?

  1. why is it not a concept to dress formal & ‘dressy’ but not loud, gawdy, and over board at people’s wedding functions? Everyone, even the sisters are so sequined out in the heaviest lenghas they can find. I find this disrespectful to the bride!!! go easy! you’ll have your day too!!!

    • Hello, have you ever attended any indian weddings. People in India wear these kind of sequined, full of zari dresses/sarees with lot of jewellery. There is nothing odd in this.. it luks quite normal

      • +1. I dont find anything odd in this much zari but just wish it looked nice overall. And i wish people in India stop thinking that braiding your hair is old fashioned or Auntyish. Her hair is super untamed and i feel like oiling it and braiding it nice and tight and then attaching a gajra to it.

    • This loud, blingy trend is a relatively recent phenomenon, I think. Started with KJo’s Punjabi princess movies and this whole concept of Big Fat Indian Wedding coinciding with India’s new economic boom. Agreed, our weddings were always loud and noisy and show-offy, but not to the extent that one sees now.

    • I am sorry but I’ll have to disagree with you. Indian..spl North Indian weddings have been like this for as long as I can remember..& we love them for that! What is disrespectful about a sister dressing up to her best for her brother’s wedding? Forget red, she is not even wearing any sort of bright color..am sure the bride stood out plenty. Plus, as a bride I loved seeing all my friends & families dressed up to the hilt..it looked like they all put in some effort & the occasion was special to them as much as it was for me!

  3. Love the lehenga…I love how elegant she looks, and not just because of the clothes. She seems like a poised, composed woman and because of that the clothes complement her…and not the other way around (as is often the case).

The anarkali I find tacky, but at least it’s not overshadowing the bride. She doesn’t really stand out in a bad way.

  4. Saba looks lovely in the lehenga. Not crazy about the anarkali. On a personal note I don’t like to wear similar colors at one given desi wedding. This said I am a little disappointed that both sides of the family preferred white, beige, gold or some combo. I was expecting more colorful outfits. It’s not over yet so I have my fingers crossed.

  5. if one can’t dress up for one’s brother’s wedding, then when does one dress up? the bride has been going on and on about her wedding and her clothes in the papers forever…
